  1. I'm a bit surprised that they didn't go with the revamped Action Zone target/circle for their cover. It's generated more discussion than Banshee here recently.

  3. Thank you so much LoraX. A year or two ago, a 13 year old former friend of mine posted the positive results of her pregnancy test on Facebook. Her own mother, congratulated her, saying that she was so proud, and surprised that it hadn't happened sooner. 2 weeks after the baby was born (a healthy little girl) the friend was posting about wanting a second baby. It makes me so sad that things like this happen. Babies are raising babies nowadays. Sent from my VS840 4G using Tapatalk

  6. Thanks. I personally think that sex just complicates things and you should be sure you are going to spend the rest of your life with her(Marriage) until you have it. Nowadays the culture makes fun of people like us but I don't care what they say because the culture isn't always right. I know some people that are single parents because of teenage pregnancy and its really hard.

  7. To elaborate on Terpy's comment... At the front and back of each tub, there are 2 cables (4 total.) They are doubled and coupled together for safety purposes. By directing the tub to drop downward toward the center axis while in motion, it causes the rear of the tub to bottom out leaving slack in the front 2 cables. As inertia takes over, the tub rights itself and the front 2 cables tighten and "snap" together. The tub then makes a dramatic surge upward and in some cases goes completely horizontal above the pivot point at the top arms of the carriage. The visuals of this prompted both "ooohs and ahhhhs" from guests, as well as concerns among those worried about safety. Sometimes, when many pro "snappers" were on board, the carriage arms would shake and thud loudly. For those riding, the swoop upward was literally a thrill beyond belief.

  12. FYI, I was at the Fairgrounds over the weekend, and vertical assembly of Lightning Run is underway. They had at least 4 sections of track in place.... lower "bunny hop" hills. It struck me as a bit odd since typically they start with lift assembly. However I figure they'll probably assemble it from the centermost area outward. Erecting the lift/first drop will likely necessitate closure of Perimeter Road - not feesible during weekends when events are occurring inside the Fairground wings. I will say I'll be SHOCKED if Lightning Run and some of the newer attractions are completed by opening. If they are, and operate on time, opening day visitors should not wear their best shoes... the pavement may still be wet ;-) In addition, there are literally DOZENS of billboards all around Louisville pushing KK season pass sales. It's obvious a hefty penny was paid to rent all the billboards. Locally, KK Marketing is pushing hard. However I'm baffled by this strategy since the whole State backing for KK was based on the promise to draw visitors to Louisville in order to help support hotels, restaurants etc. That was the whole push to re-open the park in the first place - to help draw tourism. Out-of-state Marketing strategy will begin once the park is closer to opening, obviously, but I cannot imagine how much of the budget has gone to renting all those local billboards!

  13. So many great memories to choose from… Opening Day, April 1987 I was 13 and obsessed with Vortex. I’d followed every newspaper article, magazine article, and TV spot I could find. I knew it had six inversions, but the layout was still a tangled blur and I had no idea what a boomerang turn was. Finally opening day had come, and I had my first ever KI season pass shiny and new and ready to go. The weather was perfect. I got picked up at 8:30 by my friend Chris’s dad, and by 9 Chris, Ray, and me were at the gates. We were going crazy with excitement! Back in those days you could climb the stairs to the Eiffel Tower’s 50 foot level, and we did to get a closer look at the blue and orange monster at the far side of the park. Ahh, so THAT is the boomerang turn. We waited out the hour in front of the floral clock, and finally at 10:00 they dropped the ropes. We did our best to follow the rules and not run, but we didn’t want to get mowed down either. We were not disappointed in the least that we waited almost 45 minutes. Watching and hearing each train return to the station with cheering riders just got us fired up even more. I’ll spare the ride details since we all know them, but for me it was the perfect combination of terror and exhilaration. Since that morning I’ve never felt that same combo, because once you lose your coaster innocence, it is pretty much gone. Due to the long lines, we took just one more Vortex ride that day, and that one was a 9:45PM dark one. Entertainment wise, there are few times in life when your big expectations are not only exceeded but obliterated, and for me Vortex opening day was one of those times. Just one year later came another great memory… 8th Grade Trip, May 1988 The greatest tradition of St. Michael School in Sharonville was to take its graduating 8th grade class to KI on the last day of school. A day at KI with friends is great anyway, but spending it with all 34 of my classmates and our teacher was amazing. I had planned for months to get all 36 of us on a Beast train, but logistical issues prevented that dream from coming true. I did get to share all my nerdy KI knowledge and introduce rides to kids who had never ridden them. All in all it was a great day, and the last time I’ve seen many of my grade school classmates and our great teacher, Mr. Stouder. Everyone has days that literally mark time periods in their life, and I think of this one every time I’m at KI. Especially when I walk past the spot where our class took over Der Spinnen Keggers for half an hour to end the day.

  15. I am passionate about the industry. Anyone that has been around this site long enough has seen my love of parks and enjoyment of sharing the experience with others. Am I a hater? No, but that doesn't mean I will not offer my opinion on where I see Kentucky Kingdom or any new park going off course. Go read the Hard Rock Park forum and you will see many of the same discussions, not as many pages because it doesn't have the local flavor, but still many pages discussing the potential issues of that park. Funny many of those same issues are steps KK is making. KIC is one of the few sites out there that doesn't cater solely to "Fanboys." This site has very real discussions on everything from Kings Island, to Kentucky Kingdom, to Disney with real opinions and thoughts. Everything is not rainbows and sunshine around here and that is why it is a great site. That is also why this is a great topic, because there is real discussion regarding Kentucky Kingdom. KK should be thrilled that the park is generating this kind of discussion because it means enthusiasts locally want to see the park succeed, even if we don't agree with the decisions being made. I would argue if there was no discussion about the opening and actions of Kentucky Kingdom then there is no interest in the park or its future. Then again the parks wants me to be a "Fanboy" and love all of their decisions and additions and wait with bated breath for the park to open and have zero concern for its future viability.

  16. As for KI getting the Flying Eagles back anytime soon, I asked this question to Don at the ACE December meeting at KI. His answer was nope. So I trust that answer and was very sad to hear it. It is a ride many miss and it does get a line (not huge but I usually had to wait several cylcles to ride).

  24. Now, I'm not saying we are getting Flying Eagles back, but do you honestly think Don would just casually tell you "Yup, they are definitely making a comeback next year. Don't ruin the surprise for everyone else" ? I think if a professional Public Relations official wanted to keep such a thing secret, they would be able to make a convincing denial without saying "No, it won't happen". My thoughts would be that if we were getting Flying Scooters, his response would be more along the lines of "details of our ride linuep for 2014 will be fully released later on as we approach opening day." Stock PR response that neither reveals nor denies anything specific. And then someone would hear that and come on this forum and declare that Banshee was a giant diversion and the REAL flagship addition for 2014 will be a green Intamin Giga Coaster and that they're going to tear down Vortex to build it since it's obviously sinking anyway.

  26. I'd hate to see how you kids would have been back in my day. Back in the '70s and '80s we didn't have your internets and your webcams, your chatrooms and your forums. The park closed in the fall, it reopened in the spring, and more times than not there would be a new ride there. Whether we liked it or not, we either had to wait until the commercials started in the spring, catch a story in the newspaper* or actually go to the park to see what it was going to be. Now get off my lawn. *A newspaper was a publication, usually printed daily with a more extended edition on Sundays, that included news articles, opinion pieces, public interest stories, classified ads and comics (or "funnies"), among other items. They could commonly be purchased in stores, at "newsstands", or delivered to one's home for a fee. With the advancement of technology, newspapers have become more and more rare, although online editions of some of these publications have managed to survive.

  30. Yeah, the first few times I "snapped", I thought I was doing something wrong and breaking the ride. I saw people watching me, but the op wouldn't say anything. I would try to stop snapping and sometimes that seemed to just make it worse. Later I realized it was accepted by the park and was, really, the only way to ride.

  31. Ahh yes, that thread. We went from throwing 100% random guesses, based loosely on what we really wanted (I was hoping for a Intamin Wooden Coaster TBH) to Giga Coasters (most thought B&M, but there was clearly that one camp that insisted this would be an INTAMIN in spite of Cedar Fair's recent trends) to the B&M Invert vs. Wingrider battle (I was on the Invert side the entire time, since Gatekeeper was still new I felt adding one at Kings Island would damage Gatekeeper's status- something Cedar Fair would be unlikely to do so soon) and then when B&M Invert parts were spotted and blueprints leaked, nearly everyone went to the B&M Invert side, until there was that Fake Bat Leak at least...which only fooled most of us for around 5-10 minutes. And finally, we got the truth on August 8th... KIC exploded during that thread. There were hundreds of posts and users online at once. It was crazy. Kings Island did an awesome job of teasing us and doing promos for the upcoming 2014 ride...

  33. On the contrary, I have spoken to lots of people who enjoyed being a sweep. The job is what you make of it. You will be encouraged to interact with park guests early and often every day and who knows, you could inadvertently help make someone's day at the park a lot more worthwhile. When I worked at Disney, I was in Rides, and was originally assigned to be a Jungle skipper, but got switched to another attraction at the last minute which I wasn't nearly as excited about at first. It was a lot of fun, but I often was envious of the park sweeps who seemed to be always having a good time (they could wander around and observe, while at Rides, I was fixed in just a few places every day). Don't poo-poo it solely based on your disdain for picking up trash.

  35. Not too ludicrous. I have a grocery list app that I use just about every time I go to the store to make sure that I've got everything. Not sure that I have my nose buried in it while I'm walking around though.

  36. blind faith is still blindness. Its up to the individual to perceive things the way he/she would like to see them. People have asked questions on here or pointed out the differences between this park and many others in the same sphere of influence. If you perceive that as a negative, then thats your view of being negative not others. I really enjoy KI but I can question the thought process of many things they do. Doesnt mean I am negative to the park.

  41. At Disney Parks, the sweepers are the creme-de-la-creme of the cast members. They pick their best people for these roles simply because they interact with guests the most often.

  43. ^ Did the park not operate 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 under SIX? While you may argue the decline started in 2006 or sooner, the park was operational for those years and did not reopen in 2010. Once again we may not like what happened in the past, but we cannot turn a blind eye to it. Just like you may not like some folks, mine included, prediction of the future because of the parks past, current actions (or in-actions), coupled with past history of the industry as a whole.
