  2. Wow, I have finally got around to doing this trip report. If you have read my other trip report, you know that I go down the list of rides, I rode and rate them. I am going to do the same thing here. After about a 30 minute drive up from Newport, Kentucky (where my grandparents live), we arrived at Kings Island. My dad wanted to go to The Beast immediately, it has been and always will be his favorite coaster, after all. It was down to a one train wait, which I love. Anyway, you guys know how The Beast is: long, rough and fun. It was EASILY the best wooden coaster I have ever ridden. 8.5/10. Once that wild ride was over, we went over to Diamondback, the tallest coaster in the park. Diamondback is definitely better than Intimidator (Sorry Mer!), it just has a better, twistier layout. I also like the splashdown, that is pretty sick if you ask me. 8.25/10 Next up was good ol' Vortex. Oh, and by the way, I just want to quickly thank Homestar92 for spreading the awesomeness of 7-1. I love you for that. Nothing beats that airtime, not even all of DB's airtime combined. This ride is definitely better than Carolina Cyclone. I give it an 8/10 By this time it was past 12 o'clock so we decided to go to LaRosa's for a pizza. I really don't know why you guys don't like it at the park, it tasted fine to me... My brother, dad, and grandfather wanted to go ride Firehawk but there was NO WAY I was waiting in that line, I wanted to ride The Racer. Convincing my mom to ride with me though, that was hard. On the ride, she decided it would be a good idea to scream into my ear. I also rode this ride at night with my dad, that was more fun. To be honest though, I think Thunder Road at Carowinds is better, it has more airtime. 7/10 Mom also wanted to ride the Dodgem's which was more her speed. They are just your average bumper cars, nothing all that special. 6/10 After meeting back up, we all wanted to go ride Banshee, which turned out being out longest wait of the day at 45 minutes. It was definitely worth it though. I love you Afterburn, but Banshee's length, inline-twist, and theming give it a slight edge. 8.75/10 I don't really remember what happened after this, or why we sat around for so long when we could have been riding rides. My brother and I rode The Bat though. Riding in the back was a mistake though, making it not so much of a "non-stop fright." Should have rode in the front. 7.5/10 The best mine train out there was next. Adventure Express. And must I say, this thing is jerky! It was still fun though. Way better than Carolina Goldrusher. 7.5/10 Hank's Burrito Shack is awesome! Oh, and thank you lady behind us who let us use her gold pass to save some money. After this we really just walked around for a bit and then left. I hope I can come back to KI next year!

  4. Look at what Cedar Fair is doing with all of their stand-ups, one has been sold and the other is becoming a floorless sit down coaster. To me that is a strong message from FUN saying they are done with stand-ups.

  5. Probably not expecting to get trampled. I mean I go to KI's Halloween stuff and I never expect to have the following happen: Get Stabbed Get Shot Get Punched Get Trampled Have vicious slurs slung at me Things I expect to happen: Scares people jumping/screaming eating drinking having fun

  6. I hope you can, too! It's always great to see Kings Island through the eyes of a visitor whose homepark is elsewhere. Thanks so much for posting the trip report. Even more, thanks so much for being a part of KIC! Many here will see you at Carowinds next year!

  12. What would make you think this place wasn't good for families? Just because they have farting dogs, vomiting rats, urinating bugs, and topless cows? What parent wouldn't want their kid's picture next to a topless cow? This park is just promoting some good, wholesome, family fun.

  13. I would say that with the recent conversion of Mantis to Rougarou, the stand ups are going to be but a memory once their lifespan is over. And the harness was only part of the problem. Most men didn't like the little seat that fit between your legs, for obvious reasons. More than likely, you would see a floorless installed before a stand up.

  16. Not to defend the park, but just playing devils advocate here. By putting a security measure in to make sure no one brings knives or anything else into the park is all well and good, but someone can leave it in the car. That person can still do a lot of damage. Do you then increase parking lot security 10x? 100x? Firearm alerting dogs? Unfortunately, this thing happened. Could the park have done more? Not sure how as it was in the parking lot and short of looking into each and every car....

  17. Many years ago, I tried to wear a Paramount's Great America shirt (hunter green with the mountain and 22 stars logo) to Six Flags Great America. I was refused admission until I changed shirts. "Sir, reversing the shirt is not a solution." About five years ago, I wore a navy blue Paramount's Carowinds ride op shirt and khaki pants to Carowinds. I had bought the shirt on clearance at Cedar Point. Security followed me all day. About 6 PM, Mr. Bart Kinzel, accompanied by a half dozen security guards (really?--I NEVER, EVER saw the 'gentleman' alone in the park) asked me to leave. I politely refused. I also have been known to wear a suit and tie to parks. That's always....interesting.

  19. I've been around coaster sites a while and for me, its easier for me to compile all my trip reports into one topic so I don't lose track of them. Along with park trip reports, I also like to do reports on the trips I do with the UC Band for bowls and tournament trips. I do have a few things to start out with. This year I have 3 other park visits planned outside of Kings Island; being Cedar Point, Michigan's Adventure, and Holiday World (the later 2 being my first time visiting). Though I've been to Cedar Point many times, I do want to leave the option to eat outside the park for this particular trip, which I've never done before. A few things on that. First, if I leave the park at Cedar Point including the parking lot, what is the procedure for re-entering the parking lot? Also, what are the best places to eat outside the park? For Michigan's Adventure and Holiday World, I just need general advice. In particular, a good day plan for both (I'll be going on weekdays for each), best places to eat in the park, and any hidden gems that need pointing out (I like to do more than just the coasters, I am a flat ride fan). I will be going to Holiday World for 2 days so I can take in as much of Splashin' Safari as I can. For food advice, it's mostly the lighter food I need advice on where to find (I know that's a stretch for amusement parks, just general light food is fine). Any advice on riding their respective coasters would be helpful as well. Thanks and I hope to have a trip report soon!

  20. With the change to floor-less trains, is the clocked speed of Rougarou expected to be faster, slower, or the same as when it was Mantis? Also, will any trim brakes be removed? I was always under the impression they were installed to ease G forces on the rider's legs.

  21. Thats going to be hard to see because they are kind of not liked by most people anymore. Also it has been a while since a brand new stand up was builtThat maybe but if you think about it. All that needs to happen is for B&M to redesign the harness. Plus inverts weren't built for a long time. So stand ups may come back one day. B&M Inverts weren't built for a while because mostly everyone who wanted one and could afford one already had one.

  23. This stuff is perfectly acceptable in many of the less uptight countries in the world. In other words, anywhere but the USA. Everyone should experience life outside of the US, even if it is just for a day. I had a great two years in Germany and would love to go back......permanently.

  24. I don't think that they will remove the trim brake on the first drop. If anything, it will just be turned off as it would be easier to do that then remove only to find out it is still needed.

  29. During my last visit, while traversing the Diamondback queue, they had opened the lower queue lanes, and I found a guy...ahem....relieving himself...in line. I notified the attendant where the line enters the station and the Fast Lane users are let in. By sheer coincidence, I rode in the same train as that man and as we got back, park security and Mason PD were patiently waiting to escort him out of the park and I went with security to verify.

  31. UC vs OSU The high school game we were at out of courtesy towards our hosting band. We injected our own cheers in to pass the time. Most of them involve the phrase 'let's go cats', which worked well in our favor as the team was named the Patriots, often called 'Pats' for short. The student crowd was rather rude to us, mainly due to the fact that there was a clear lack of older folks, aka parents, at the game. Some of the crap they pulled would have gotten people from my HS suspended or more. Didn't get too many shots outside the stadium/Skull Session during OSU as we were on the move a lot between getting there and going between performance locations. Here are a few from the Skull Session. This was the high school band that played before it began. They were really energetic and the crowd got into it. They had quite the repertoire for a high school band to fill in 45+ minutes. The high school's tubas having some fun. The place was packed for the concert. OSU's St John's Arena is roughly the size of UC's Fifth Third Arena, though OSU's stacks them up. I think UC's might be bigger. Keep in mind this is their old basketball arena. The one they actually use is much bigger. Its still amazing to see how much support TBDBITL gets. The OSU Band making their entrance. They pretty much crowd the entrance, both here and at the stadium before they enter, drums pounding away. You can be a good distance away and just feel the air pressure off the drums on your chest. They sure let you know they're coming. For their fight songs and Hang On Sloopy, they just fill that arena with sound. A closer look at them, particularly their drum major. UC grad and OSU head coach Urban Meyer. The team comes in and the coach makes a rally cheer before each Skull Session. The band after their infamous ramp entrance. Ohio Stadium is HUGE! It was already full by pre-game. Another band shot. Paying homage to the away team. They may be able to play some of our fight song, but there is a 16th note running pattern which the baritones play which they missed. Hey, gotta poke a little fun at them. In this shot, I was trying to show something weird the OSU band does. I think this is just for Script Ohio, but whenever they turn or make crossovers between lines when writing Ohio out, they made these snappy horn pops. This is probably one of the reasons they have to memorize the steps for this drill. You can see it a little bit in the far left. That entire section at that end of the stadium is the student section. There is a massive wall of sound that pours from that side when the crowd gets into it. I can't imagine what it was like for the UC offense. When the stadium does the O-H-I-O spelling cheer, the students start it with panels in the shape of a big O and the spelling carries out counter-clockwise. Script Ohio. I wish we had seats down the sidelines as I really wanted to see it clearly in person. The I-dotter is announced during the Skull Session and his name and picture are displayed on the scoreboard. They are chosen from tubas who have been in the band 4 or more years. On occasion, special guests will join the I-dotter, but its very rare. The Buckeye football team takes the field. Our director conducted the National Anthem, which made me proud to see. There is a HUGE American flag hoisted by the ROTC in the end zone on the curved end of the stadium, the flag seen in the bottom of this picture. Brutus. The Bearcat! He does come to all OSU vs UC games armed with a nutcracker. Unfortunately, he didn't whip it out until well into the 2nd half while the Bearcats were getting smoked, a point where I stopped caring to take pictures. There were a fair amount of UC fans at the game, though it was this little spot of black next to us in the giant sea of scarlet and grey. The calm before kick off. The score a bit into the 3rd quarter. This was when UC seemed to be getting momentum back, which is a funny thing for a team playing away in an environment such as OSU. I never cheered so hard, at least since I went with the band to see UC play Syracuse in NYC for the Big East Tournament and whipped them. I really thought we could pull off the upset, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Had a great time regardless of the score. I kind of want to be there for an OSU/Michigan game.

  33. I feel stranger wearing a park shirt at the park it is from than a shirt from a different park. It is a bit like wearing a t-shirt for the band whose concert you're seeing. The Flight of Fear crew really enjoy when I wear my old Outer Limits tank, though...

  35. I actually think it's fun to wear other park shirts. For example, I've worn Great Adventure shirts at CP, CP shirts at Great Adventure, Kings Island shirts at CP, CP shirts at KI....etc. It's a converstation starter, especially when I wear a CP shirt at Great Adventure. People there (employees and guests alike) are always really interested in hearing which park I like better. It was also fun encountering a Kings Island employee in line for Dragster since he commented on my Banshee shirt. I love seeing other peoples' shirts, and I love wearing them at different parks.

  39. ^ That is a stage; the Enchanted Theater used that portion of the building after Phantom Theater was built. That space is now used only as Carnevil. Ed Alonzo's shows were in the (much, much larger) Kings Island Theater.

  41. Part of Scooby's problem (which carried on to Boo Blasters) was having re-used the Phantom Theater Omnimover. Omnimover ride systems were revolutionary and - from an unnecessarily philosophical / storytelling way - allow guests to be immersed in a story where they can observe something unfolding around them. Haunted Mansion, Phantom Theater, Adventure Thru Inner Space, Spaceship Earth, etc. The Animatronics or animation can cycle continuously through their program as guests glide through scenes. The other kind of classic dark ride is cart-driven. Think Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Alice in Wonderland, even Indiana Jones Adventure. That also includes every Boo Blasters except ours. On those kinds of dark rides, a cart enters a room or scene and the environment reacts to that cart specifically. Once the cart passes through, the animatronics reset and wait for their sensor to be tripped again. One big complaint fans have about the new Little Mermaid ride at Disney Parks is that, in all other cases, dark rides that retell Disney's fairytales or stories are cart-based, and the characters appear to interact with you specifically. Little Mermaid uses an Omnimover, and you glide through scenes and see familiar sights and sounds, but it's not happening to you. You're just an observer. Again, maybe overly philosophical, but it matters. The two big selling point moments of Boo Blasters are invalidated by our Omnimover system. The first is the fog screen. On every other Boo Blasters, the screen remains unlit until the cart trips a sensor, which begins the projection. The Phantom's entire message is delivered and his eyes turn to flames just as you pass through the screen, then he's gone until that cart leaves the room and the next enters. The effect was lost by the constant stream of Omnimovers with no one getting the whole message and the darn thing repeating over and over and over as you approach it. The other big moment is the end, where your cart pulls into a garden with gnarled vines and skulls in the sky and thorns and prickers. The Phantom is under a stone arch covered in briars. "You'll never escape Bleakstone Manor, never!" If you shoot the targets around him, red fog blasts up from in front of him, he screams, the animatronic sinks into the ground, and then the blacklights hidden around the room go off and white lights turn on. When that happens, the briars become flowering vines, the sky turns blue and happy, and the curse is lifted. Ours doesn't have that capability since it's a continuous stream of Omnimovers, so he just continually screams and then laughs and then screams and then laughs. Which is fine, but the blacklight trick is a clever one. While it's not confirmed, I can only imagine that the Omnimover system has something to do with the invisible lasers (as opposed to the other ride's red targeting laser) and the inconsistent operation of the guns. That's just a guess though.

  42. Generally, most amusement and theme parks prohibit running, for safety reasons. Yet by having employees chase guests with a fake chainsaw, they are encouraging running. She may have a valid claim in that the park created an unsafe situation. IANAL, of course.

  43. I went to Kings Island on Friday and it was jammed packed when we got there. The crowd didn't thin out untill 12:10 AM. Rides ridden (or mazes) (In order): - Viking Fury - Adventure Express - The Racer - Delta Delta Die - Kill Mart - The Vortex - Backlot Stunt Coaster - Boo Blasters - Banshee I decided not to ride Diamondback because the lines pretty much filled the queue line. The rides with the longest wait time was: Diamondback, The Beast, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Bansee (sort of but the get trains out fast). Adventure Express is one of my favorites at Kings Island because at night time it is just AWESOME. If you ever see a worker at Auntie Anne's pretzels thats is in uniform for the cinnamon rolls place (can't recall the name), you should definantly get a pretzel because she made them 3 times bigger than a normal pretzel would be. It was amazing. I also think Kings Island should fix up Boo Blasters a bit Thats all I got from this trip. Just thought I would share.

  45. I'd say that Cedar Fair has a five year plan for what they are going to build and where. Does that mean that's what they end up building? No. Budgets, attendance, and a lot of other factors can change things. But I'd be surprised if they didn't at least have an idea what they were planning that far out. I would say that from the initial discussions with B&M to ride opening on a ride like Banshee there would have to be at least a 2-3 year period, so its not much of a stretch to say they'd know what they were wanting to do in 2019.
