  1. What is the Outer Limits? Last I checked, Kings Island did not have a coaster named the Outer Limits. In fact they went to great lengths to be sure that the words "outer" and "limits" were not used back to back in any automated spiels in the park.
  2. If everyone is going to act as though the original poster is crazy and made us all dumber, you could at least provide a valid argument as to why you feel that way. People dont come here to be bashed, especially when someone feels they have a legitimate concern.
  3. (I know one word posts aren't allowed but are one emoticon posts allowed? Oh well I suppose these two sentences solve that problem)
  4. Goodness I LOVE when theme parks embellish on their hourly capacity. I suppose in theory anything is possible. *DeLorean Rider who knows that a new major attraction for a Disney Park is not considered unless a true 1900 per hour is possible.*
  5. Finally! I've ALWAYS hated that 48" height restriction on the Eiffel Tower. I think it's ridiculous; total overkill. BTW I just finished a project for Disney regarding redesigning a certain attraction's padding to better accommodate smaller riders.
  6. Doubt it. The idea there was to maintain the famous drop and excessive speed. With SOB, thats exactly what they'd be trying to get rid of. Plus aside from the lift, first drop, and the incline of the second hill; everything else on phantom was replaced. You'd essentially be tearing down all of SOB and rebuilding a new coaster; you may be able to utilize the second helix... maybe.
  7. And it was only meant to be temporary. As stated, the tower is comprised of angle iron, s section, and w section beams bolted and welded together. You can swap one out overnight. If the park cares about it remaining to stand, it will continue to stand.
  8. Every 4 years they have to rotate the Eiffel Tower 180 degrees to counter the stress due to wind. The last time was 2006 so this is the year.
  9. Wow, well its going to take a lot more than that to impress me with theming increases. Someone call me when they restore the lower level of flight deck...
  10. If a ride manufacturer makes a recommendation and it is not followed, all the accountability is on the park. They don't want that. They want as little liability as possible. Plus as the insurance company hears that, there goes your rate.
  11. Indeed. In order to run the ride, one trained "Site Controller" must be there at all times. To become a Site Controller you must pass a test given by SkyCoaster. To train at Skyflyer you must be a site controller. In addition, one ops manager is trained by SkyCoaster to be the "Senior Site Controller." Personally I was a site controller in 2005, 2006, and 2007. One perk is that as a site controller you can ride any sky coaster world wide for free . Definitely hit up the 300 footer in Florida several times.
  12. True. But I also feel as though SOB ruined the insurance rates for wood coasters at KI .
  13. ...and the other magic word that dictates the other 99% of decision making regarding rides: insurance
  14. Anyone else remember the motion simulator they used to have next to the zephyr?
  15. From an operations standpoint, I can say hands down that it is my favorite night of the year to be in the park.
  16. Those people that are residents of Walt Disney World are there to serve as a voting public for when Disney wants to pass legislation that they would not otherwise be able to pass if the land was strictly commercial use. Because there are residents within Disney's cities they can vote on their behalf. The people living on property are all cast members who's residency is co-Dependant on their status as employees. There are two locations for which they live in. The Lake Buena Vista residents live off of Buena Vista Drive in a small subdivision that I'm sure many of you have passed right by many times. The Bay Lake people live in a small trailer park esq environment off of Reams Road. Here is the location of the Bay Lake residents: Here is the location of the Lake Buena Vista Residents:
  17. You know with magnetic brakes the amount of braking is directly proportional to how fast the train is going. The faster the train is going the harder it will feel you're being braked, the slower, the less it will feel like you're being braked. It's the nature of eddy-current brakes.
  18. There is only one. Its a yellow light cycle on one side and a blue one on the other.
  19. The Beast was converted from skid brakes to combination fin and magnetic brakes in 2002.
  20. That is true, during the very early stages of the testing period, there were no trims, and the ride was unbearable. Video of Beast testing in 1980: I purchased this beta video sometime ago off E-Bay, found a old beta player, and converted it to VHS. Someone that I sent it here at KICentral to posted it to youtube. Anyway, you can see that the ride is still being built, the trains are still painted different colors, and you can also see the skid brake locations down the first hill and the straitaway- but not on the 2nd hill. WOW, thank you so much for posting this video. FINALLY there is a video that can be shown when people INSIST that the ride used to not have trim!
