Confusion arises because scientists, like most professions, have their own language. So when you hear scientists say Novel Coronavirus they are talking about a very specific thing (covid-19) and completely understand each other. However others like some journalists or politicians don’t understand what novel means so they drop it when communicating with the public and just say the broadly defined “Coronavirus”. Then the public starts googling and begins thinking this is just a common cold. This makes the cartoon about the subject @malem posted Tuesday even funnier because the cartoon creator apparently doesn’t understand this. But it was a good try.

How about somebody here put on a mask, have someone drive you down the interstate at 70mph, do not go 91mph as that would be illegal, and then stick your head out the window for a minute and a half and see what happens. Report back the results of your experiment.

As a concept a "B&M Land" amusement park is interesting and would probably be very popular with the general public.

Because 99.9% of park guests couldn't care less who the manufacturer is.

While it is true its not like they said much (We are going to clean more often and have hand wash stations available). Also Dollywood opens this weekend, KI doesn't. Hershypark does not open until 4/4 but they have other venues that are opening before that. Not sure what good a statement 4-5 weeks prior to opening will be. But that does leave open the question of Knotts. Maybe CF feels they do a good enough job already in the hygiene department so there really isn't anything to say. From what I can tell SIX has not made a statement either beyond sending out a survey to guests asking what their concerns are. If some carefully crafted corporate word salad statement that says nothing will make you feel better, email the park and ask for one.

As Osterholm mentions this is largely because we have so little data on this particular virus. (The right kind) used properly can kill it but we are uncertain if covid can effectively be transmitted by touching our face. Also there are different types of sanitizers and those based on benzalkonium chloride instead of alcohol are believed to be not as effective. Unfortunately most of what is available is right now is benzalkonium chloride based and people are being gouged for it. There are many times washing your hands with soap and water is not an available option so hand sanitizers are the next best option. Also ever been in a restroom with only air dryers, washed your hands and then realized you have to grab the door handle to exit? I hate that and travel bottles of sanitizer are helpful in those types of situations. Notice at most modern medical facilities the restroom door opens outward so you don't have touch a handle. Regarding the no need to panic. While panicking rarely helps in any situation there are very legitimate reasons the current situation can cause extreme anxiety. Take for instance the single mom with young children barely scrapping by with a low wage hourly job and the school closes or a child is ordered to self isolate. If she cant pay the rent, homelessness is on the horizon. There is also a fine line between "panic shopping" and being prepared. Ideally we should all be prepared for disaster situations but we are human and life gets in the way.

I like the idea of the All-Season Hand Sanitizer Plan. There could even be 15 minute cool down like the drink plan, so the kids don't go overboard flinging at each other each other's eyes or starting fires. Dad took daughter to school dance despite self isolation orders. I am from St. Louis, Ladue is a very wealthy area and Villa is an very exclusive and expensive private school. These are not peopleofwalmart. Your statement also presumes people know if they are carriers of the virus. Correct me if I am wrong but the "test", that is not available to everyone as some claim, can only provide a positive result if one is symptomatic. One can be an asymptomatic carrier and not know.

LA has had relatively few cases given the population. Same with Ohio. Confused what you don't see changing. Park operations independent of severity of local cases? What do you expect them to say with operations at normal? With no reported cases in the area, of course not. So you would go regardless of how many cases there are or how many people are dying? Not that I can draw the line at any number. That is why I follow the recommendations of public health experts and scientists. Would you still go if any of your family was exposed even if asymptomatic? Not going to make any decision based on someone's "hunch".

So family at KI for their 1 trip of the year On a Saturday. Mom and 8 year old likes some rides but not the big ones, but 14yo and Dad want go big and go fast. (My youngest was this way until 10). So your solution is the whole family must wait in long lines and only get a few in all day or all must purchase FL+ even though 2 members won’t use it to the full extent? OK.

I think it is a little to early to speculate about the park closing as it would likely be consistent with other public venues in the area. Hypothetically if it did close, I would be much more concerned about the financial health of the company and welfare of the employees not getting paychecks. KI is just entertainment for us, it is the livelihood of many others. If it does occurs to any degree I sure hope everyone here is empathetic enough to not complain about it. That would not be a good look.

Until/If we have adequate test kits in the wild and start testing everyone showing symptoms we will not know how big this really is or is not. South Korea has drive thru swab and go testing to minimize contact with no charge. Here it takes 2k in medical costs to get tested, if you can. I sometimes get the feeling the strategy here is to test as few people as possible so it looks like everything is under control. I sure hope that changes. I wonder how long it will take the local k-12 districts to follow. I can’t think of any significant environmental differences between the two settings. Dorms but they are not closing those.

Not that I personally want it but the more I look at that terrain it just seems perfect for Monster Jam and then a coaster or FF type thing down the line.

The food tastes good but the delivery can be a little off. Ordered a chicken salad once and was handed a plate of lettuce with 3 whole strips just dropped on top. Forks and knives were not available.

On the other hand, how often is that thing down? I have never seen it. If it isn't a maintenance headache and they don't need the space for something else why would they chop it?
