Cedar Point 2021 Discussion
King Ding Dong replied to coaster sally's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
CP notoriously has the strictest rain policy of any park and while they will run some coasters in a drizzle most go down to one or two train ops. Someone posted once that the Magnum trains bumping once in the rain was the impetus. Wind speeds at the ground and aloft shut things down as well and the gust speeds are important as well. Gemini hasn’t been scheduled to open until 11 for at least several years and even then it often would start with only one side. Steel Vengeance is just cantankerous and very slow to open. One would think the park would then start opening procedures an hour earlier on their premier attraction but they don’t. CPS used to be open until 7 but changed to 6 last year I believe. CP also started trimming night hours in 2019 pre-COVID from 11 to 10 presumedly as a cost cutting measure. I think the weekend midnight closures in July were eliminated as well. Generally by 10 guests were leaving so most coasters were a walk on or nearly so. Earlier this year they were even cutting the ride lines off well before scheduled close due to staffing but that seems to be over now. Ride wait times are not consistently or accurately updated on the app, but KI has the same issue and at least CP makes an attempt at posting the approximate wait times at most ride entrances something KI can’t even be bothered to do. Frequent guests can look at the queues and have a pretty good idea, but not so much the daily ticket guests. -
It appears to me the sensitivity of the metal detectors has been adjusted up somewhat. I can walk through with a phone, cable, power bank and fob and not set it off. Switching to a different belt has probably helped as well.

Goes best with blood wine. Hoping for some smoked pulled Targ at Coney BBQ. Hey, @Snowball Did you have prior experience with stilts or did the park train you? -

I wonder what would happen if you used a KI Cash-to-Card with just some change on it to secure your reservation. -

What country does that bread cup thingy full of larva represent? -
Make it a FLP only event to help generate some revenue.
-
Could make it a “VIP event” with reservations and such so it isn’t so crowded.

Sure they were concerned about safety. Their own. -
Go rent a Lime scooter or order an Uber and get back with us how that works out for you.

What I find humorous is not that long ago (40-50 years or so) one could be arrested in many municipalities as a vagrant if you didn’t have a specific amount of cash on you. In St. Louis it was $20.

Cedar Point removes picnic grove
King Ding Dong replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Other than being yet another B&M that is cool idea. Are there any other coasters that have their supports in a parking lot that vehicles can park next to? CP needs that overflow lot by the south basin. -

Wow. CP is expanding Haunt to Thursday nights 6-12 and Fridays 11-12. Anyone think KI might do something similar? -
Cedar Point removes picnic grove

It was used as a course for that monster truck ride a couple of years ago but is now just leveled back and empty. Not particularly landscaped or anything so they may have plans to use it again for something soon. Many have suggested they reroute Perimeter Rd. to include that area inside the park for something. The problem I see with that is it appears sewers or other utilities are under the road given the large rectangular concrete manholes (manrectangulars? ) in the middle of the road making such a project costly if those had to be moved as well. The sewer system is one of those civil engineering issues I have always wondered about with CP. We all know the water main is run under the causeway but where does the wastewater go? I don’t think there is a treatment plant on the peninsula and surely they can’t just dump raw sewage into the lake. -

As the blog post said the pavilion next to BS is the only one removed, the larger one behind Coca-Cola Oasis is still standing. That is not a ton of space. As SoB said it is an expense and if there were structural problems or needed roof work they may have just removed it with no plans to put anything there. The few times I have ventured over that way there were not many coolers on tables. I suspect with the meal plans now fewer people use it than in years past. One possibility if the structure did have issues is just replacing it with cheaper sail shades and still having a semi-covered picnic area. @gforce1994 Why would that particular location need excessively deep piles over any of the other rides that are close together in the park? Is the geology different there? -

I don’t disagree with that but if the goal is to continue to give away the gate and pack’em in they might opt for another capacity monster and we all know what that means. -
Can you blame people for being confused where to look?
-
With that large of group and being budget conscious it may be advantageous to pack coolers and eat in the lot. If hot meals are important one or two could leave and pick up food outside the park (even pizza) and bring it back to the lot for the group. This is not abnormal, many people eat in the lot just no grills (open flame). This is what I would do if on a limited budget and save the money for snacks or ice cream in the park.

The upcharge potential for this is game changing. -
I have two questions. Does the ATM have a FLP line? Does it issue change?
