Wait. Combat Stupendous, unless I am confused don`t you work on The Beast crew?
-
Yeah, I don`t know why they are closing so early. But just be glad they are open that weekend. When the announced Winterfest, I thought for sure that their last weekend would be the final weekend in October and not the first weekend in November, like they have done the past couple of years. But they are still being open that weekend. That leaves them just three weeks to make all the final Winterfest preparations before it debuts to the public on Friday, November 25.
-
At least this year, they will be open for Winterfest, with a couple of rides! Also, usually, the park will open either the first or second weekend in April. If they do the last ride of the season on The Beast as they have done the past couple of years, they have sometimes mentioned when opening day for the following season is.
-
I`ll be there for sure on the final day. Not sure about the Saturday. I might end up volunteering in the foods department there on Saturday (I`d rather not, but it will be for a good cause if I have to). I`m looking forward to it this year. I missed it last year because of an architectural school field trip up to Boston (we returned, and in fact drove by PKI, at about midnight after they had already closed on their final day of the season. Boy was that a bummer!)

Kings Island to Overhaul Children's Area for 2006
CoastersRZ replied to ZosoBeast's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Well, I think it is pretty much agreed that there will be a ride replacing Scooby`s Ghoster Coaster, and it will be some sort of roller coaster. The free fall ride COULD be a new ride, or it could simply be a rename and rethem of Atom Ant Airways. We`ll have to just wait and see what PKI releases in January. Their announcement of Nick Universe with very few hard details was to drive season pass sales before the end of the season. Then in January, they will have more details to announce, and drive season pass sales in the slow winter months. -
My favorite memory was attending The Vortex commercial shoot, and meeting up with Klockster and ZosoBeast. Nothing like being called "professional roller coaster riders" by a person on the production staff.
-
Yes Skyline is cheaper outside the park, but not by much (drinks are obviously cheaper outside the park.) The 3-ways and 4-ways are only marginally more expensive (like 30 to 50 cents. What they get you on is the serving size is smaller at PKI.

Kings Island to Overhaul Children's Area for 2006
CoastersRZ replied to ZosoBeast's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
The question remains. Exactly how many NEW rides will the Nick Universe get, and how many will be rethemes, or overhauls of existing attractions. -
And actually. the Footlong Express Skylin location appears to have been vacated by Skyline altogether. They no longer have the Skyline Menus up. Could this be a new restaurant in 2006? Or just a temporary move of Skyline to the front of the park for FearFest and Winterfest to allow for indoor eating in warm air on those nippy days like Sunday!

Yes, but I believe it was also stated that no construction will begin prior to the end of the 2005 regular operating season. BTW, thanks for the compliments on the pictures everyone! I also have several pages of old Kings Island pictures on my site (including a shot of the Dolphin show and the smurf`s).

My website loads fine for me. However, it is on my school`s server (I get 2GB of storage space on their and unlimited bandwith), and their server has been known to go down for unknown reasons for hours or sometimes even days at a time. But hey, it is free! As far as HB rides go, all the rides in Hanna Barbera Land will remain open until the end of the season.

I got up to the park today around 2. The park would be closing at 4 due to the weather and lack of crowds. There was nobody in the park! I got lots of rides in, saw Klockster at Vortex, and CombarStupendous at The Beast, along with someone else who knew I posted here, but I do not know who he was, or if he posts here. I had a frontseat ride on The Vortex when it was pouring down rain (ouch!). Also, Winterfest preparations have begun in earnest. The Royal fountain ice skating rink is starting to take shape, with pallets being installed on a platform of wood framing. I posted some pictures to my website here. It was too bad that the park had to close so early as the lline were non existant, but I understand why they closed. They were losing money just staying open!

The Legend, The Captain, The Alien, And the Mod
CoastersRZ replied to Captain Nemo's topic in Trip Reports
Yeah. CombatStupendous, who was that that checked my bar on The Beast that said they know me? I heard you telling him I post on PKIC. Overall, today was a cold, but fun day at the park for me. (Bummer they closed at 4, but there was absolutely nobody there). I rode almost every major coaster in the two hours I was there today. -
Yes, that always amazes me. I got to the park last night a little before 8, and there were people bringing in small children, who couldn`t have been more than six or seven. I`ve seen kids crying walking through Cornstalkers. Why even bring kids on a night like last night when the park was full of people?

What`s with the double post?
-
The reason SkyFlyer had that long of a wait is because they were only using oe side (the side closest to Days of Thunder).
-
No, in 1992, the park was open until the second weekend in October. When the park first opened, yeah it didn`t stay open past September.
-
Well, according to what it was designed to go, it goes 78.382 mph (design speed). Although I have heard that it actually has been clocked going 80mph when it first opened.

Well, I went up to the park tonight. Much different than what is seems Friday night was. There was a decent amount of cars entering the parking lot when I entered around quarter till 8. Also, they only had about five or six turnstiles open to get into the park, so there was a line for that. One interesting thing I noticed, and am not sure if this is new or not, but when my pass was scanned, my picture appeared on the gate attendant`s screen! I believe that this is new, as they used to look at your pass and then you, to make sure that the pass is being used by the person it belongs to. Upon entering the park, I noticed that they have begun to build the platform for the ice skating rink. The smell of fresh wood lofted above International Street. To my amazement, there were about five guys up at the top of IS in the fountain working, by spotlight! They have up past the last pedastal built. Essentially, they are using what appear to be fork lift skids with a solid top to form the platform that the rink will sit on. These skids are elevated above the lights and nozzles. They have also added a ramp off of I-Street over by the Nickelodeon store. The last bit of an update, is that the park has added another scare zone. I noticed this last week. Between Slingshot and the Guess Your Weight game by the Festhaus, they have set up another scare zone, complete with props, a fog machine, and a chainsaw wielding scaracter. Definantly this and Cornstalkers make the overall atmosphere of FearFest better. On a side note, it seemed like there were less scaracters in Cornstalkers and less fog than in previous weeks.

Yes, that made for some fast loading. The last couple of seasons, the ride was really starting to show its age. I wasn`t surprised to see it removed. I knew that they would either be having to renovate it or remove it soon. Its always sad to see rides go, but we got quite a unique installation with TR:TR.

I don`t know. I know when they held Winterfest last time, that the lights for the tree extended in front of the tower. (They had the path under the tower closed, as the lights extended all the way into the grassy area in front of the supports and across the midway in front of the tower. At the base, of the strands, if memory serves me right, they had large concrete cyclinders to anchor the strands of lights. The conduit could be for the lighting. But I also heard that they may have some other special lighting effects on the Eiffel Tower other than the giant tree. (AKA backlighting the structure or something along those lines.
-
No, you didn`t get as wet on KCKC as you do on Thornberrys. Especially with the added effects of the coconuts and that darn elephant. BTW, it is Kenton`s Cove, not Keton`s.
-
They had the Dodgems open for the final Winterfest in 1992. Paramount had decided to extend the operating season through the end of October (as opposed to the middle of October) and thus they deemed that they would not have time to properly set up for Winterfest. This year, they are bringing in outside contractors to help transform the park from FearFest to Winterfest. Preparations have already commence with the fountain, and even some work has been going on at The Eiffel Tower, in the form of some new electrical conduit showing up on the front two support legs.

Right, if they were running the ride at full capacity, they would need to use both drops to allow for safe clearance between the boats at the drop. Naturally, the boats will travel faster at the drop, so it was a safety feature. They almost rarely used both drops the last couple of years, because they weren`t using all of the boats.

No, no one was ever killed by the Monster at PKI. There were three deaths in the park on black Sunday, as previously discussed. Two people were electrocuted in the Oktoberfest pond due to an improperly wired aerator pump (it was installed prior to updated electric codes that required GFCI recepticles near water.) The other death was on Flight Commander. That "pond" for White Water Canyon is actually a man made pond, and acts as the resevoir for the WWC water. I believe that when they built WWC, they built it in or next to a creek. (They drain the pond every winter once WWC closes). That shack is the location of some valve or pump either related to the ride, or the resevoir. BTW, FoF/Z 4-ever, last night was the season finale of Ghost Hunters. Didn`t they just start showing new episodes about a month and a half ago?
