I noticed one strange thing over on Screamscape with regards to those names for Nick Central rides. From Scream Scape: "Tommy’s Take Off, Dora’s Railway, Backyardigans Swing-A-Long, Hey Arnold Taxi Chase, Lazytown Sporticopters, NickToons TV Road Trip" Tommy`s Take Off, could very well be the new name for Dick Dastardly`s BiPlanes or Atom Ant Airways or even Yogi`s Sky Tours. Dora`s Railway could be the new name for Quick Draw`s Railway or Baba Looey`s Buggies. Backyardigans Swing-A-Long would be the new logical name for Pixie and Dixie`s Swing set. Hey Arnold Taxi Chase would be the new name for Top Cat`s Taxi Jam. Lazytown Sporticopters could be the new name for Jetson`s Jet Orbiters. The last name, NickToon`s TV Road Trip could be the new name for Fender Bender 500, or Huck`s Hot Rods. Or it could be the name of the new, relocated Antique Cars. Clearly, some of those names would fit nicely with some of the current HB rides. Hopefully, too many rides in HB are not sacrificed. It would be ashame for PKI to rip out rides from this area, espcially if they are hoping to retain their golden Ticket award. I can see them removing the Nick Theater as it has been used less and less over the past couple of years, and the Crystal Slime Mine Maze just doesn`t seem like a very popular attraction for the dry side of the park. It would be better suited in BB. That could be a nice area for future rides, and would help bridge the gap between the newer Nick Central area of Reptar with the older section of HBL.

Yes, the Round Up at Coney is one of those stand up rides. It "seats" 42 people at a time, and is a real capacity eater. The new Round Up ride that Holiday World installed this year, is smaller than Coney`s, seating only 33 people I believe. I have never ridden the one at Coney, but plan on doing so in July when I return to Coney as a guest at my dad`s company picnic there. It will be strange being there as a guest and not an employee. Off topic, but Coney opened their new Sream Machine on Saturday. Back on topic, I was at PKI on Sunday, and it did not appear as if they were working on anything on Delirium, when I rode Drop Zone shortly after 12. In fact, everything looked unhanged from my visit on Saturday.

And I know for a fact that on the fine print on the back of the Gold Pass, it states something along the lines of: Holder assumes all risk of personal injury.

Does anyone know if PKI has selected winners for their Paramount Rewards season pass incentive program? THey made a lot of hype about this early on, but they have yet to update the winners section on the PKI website. I was wandering if anyone has heard if they have (which I would assume they have) and if they plan on posting it to the web like their site says. I just haven`t heard much talk about this program since early on.

The logo on the park map, is in fact the one that PKI uses, and is also on the PKI website here. Yes, most of us that have visited PKI do not need a park map. But there are always those tourists, that come from out of town that give PKI their money too. Then their are the once a year visitors from Cincinnati and neighboring cities. They only visit once a year, and often don`t know the park as well as most of us do. Additionally, they may not be aware of some of the changes the park has made since their last visit and the map is a way for them to become aware of these changes. One such change would be the smoking in designated areas only, although most guests still fail to recognise this new rule. PKI needs banners llike what Holiday World has. I`m sure more guests would willingly follow this rule if they knew it existed!

Yes, when I was there on Saturday, it did not look like they were anywhere near ready to even begin testing it. And as I mentioned earlier, the state might want to come in and verify everything is up to snuff and ready to go. I know after Son of Beast experience the down time after it first opened in 2000 the state came back in and inspected it. Also, after the Round Up at Coney was rebuilt in the middle of the 2003 season due to a hairline crack that developed on the main center hub, the state came back in since the ride was essentially rebuilt.

I was under the impression that with Viacom splitting into two seperate companies that things might have settled down. By splitting into two companies, they have now lumped all their fast growth properties into one company and their slow growth properties (such as Paramount Parks) into the slow growth company. Additionally, I believe that Paramount Parks will be one of the core assets in the new slow growth company, which is to be named CBS Inc. or something similar. Screamscape shed a little more light on that subject a while back. I would imagine that the licensing agreements at Paramount Parks would remain status quo after the company splits sometime next year.

I don`t get why everyone wants to retheme Flight of Fear. What is wrong with it as it is? It has a pretty good theming package, and a pretty good storyline behind it. I think that money ould better be spent on a new attraction, instead of retheming an already popular attraction that has absolutly nothing wrong with its theming, IMO.

Nice trip report italianchef. I was also at the park today. It was a little on the crowded side, but I still had an enjoyable day. I also saw the School of Rock today for the first time. I thought it was fairly well done. Far better and more entertaining than last year`s show in the Paramount Theater.

You don`t work at the park so you can`t say it will be ready in one week. I`m sure they have to do lots of testing on it to make sure everything is working right. Also, they may have to get the stat ride inspectors in to approve the ride is ready to accept riders again.

The Top Gun logo, is the same logo that PKI has always used for Top Gun. Even though it shows an inverted train going through an inversion, most people won`t notice the difference, and those that do will most likely not care.

Personally, I would like to see a documentary about the park`s history. They could maybe install some monitors in the Paramount Story and air the documentary. I still find The Beast`s documentary entertaining, and wish I could see more of the early footage of the park, construction and surrounding area. I know though, that the Paramount Story will stay the way it is, and that is perfectly fine too because it is a nice quiet oasis among all the other screams, laughs and cheers of the rest of the park. It is a perfect place to sit down with the sound of water and the Carousel and just relax for a little bit!

I didn`t even notic anything different until I came across this thread. Oh well, life will move on. And at least it occured when the site was undergoing upgrades (however minor they may be.) Keep up the great work on maintaining the site we like to call PKIC!

The cranes were still parked next to the ride today. There were also people up at the top working on stuff up there, as well as people working on something underneath the gondola. Hopefully, the park will be able to get the ride up and running soon. I`m sure they wish it was running as soon as possible.

No, there is not much on Coney on the web. I might be going back in a couple weeks as a guest (not to work there which will be odd since I spent three years working there). It all depends on how my workload for school is. I will try and take my camera and add some pictures of Coney to my website, but that won`t happen until around the end of June/start of July. Yes there is the Coney Island main website. As far as I know there are no forums directly dedicated to Coney. Coney has reduced their pricing this season since they are celebrating their 120th season. Coney is a nice small park, with a bunch of classic flats that simply can`t be found at most major theme parks these days. Don`t forget that Coney also has the "world`s largest" recirculating swimming pool.

Ring Master, you need to get your facts straight about the coaster additions. Volcano: The Blast Coaster was added to PKD in 1998, a little more than 5 years ago. Stealth is as old as Son of Beast, and is no longer located at Great America. It is now the Star Trek coaster at Carowinds. As for the Tomb Raider coaster at Wonderland, ask most coaster enthusiasts opinions, and they will probably concur that the ride was not a smart installation at the park. However, I do believe the addition of IJST to Wonderland and PKI is a step in the right direction for the return of major coasters. Although the ride is too terribly short! I`m sure more great movie inspired rides will come from Paramount, and I`m sure roller coasters will play some role in that, it just might not be as huge as rides like Son of Beast.
-
It depends. While some of the themes were better and their were more classic flats, look at all the awesome rides that have moved in in the last couple of years. Delirium, Flight of Fear, Drop Zone to name some of the better ones, IMO.

Screamscape simply regurgitates rumors that he (Lance) receives and thinks to be true. If you noticed, he tried to get a firm sense on the rumor, from several "insiders." However, instead of naming the same ride, they named several, so he posted what had happened. We`ve heard wild rumors posted on here before, and we know them to not be true. CombatStupendous89, who said the park will make an anouncement this summer about next year`s ride? They have been known to make anouncements in the fall (or later). Runaway Reptar and Wild Thornberrys River Adventure were announced in February (although they were by that time confirmed at various winter coaster enthusiast events). And Face Off and Drop Zone were annoounced in early September of 1998.

Paramount's Kings Dominion

Concrete is very porous, and as such leaks easily. (That is why people sometimes get water in their basements, despite the water proofing that is installed.) Now you can waterproof concrete with various methods, although they all have certain life expectancies, and can sometimes still leak. In the case of Anaconda, the concrete is water proof for the most part since no water gets in from the sides. The reason that the top of the tunnel is not underground is because the drop (and therefore the track) probably did not go far enough below the surface of the water to allow for sufficient clearance with the top of the tunnel. -
Their site seems to be down at the moment. I hope that they will finally update the Rewards page, with who won the $500 in Scooby Bucks that were to be given away after the 29th of April. It is now more than one month after that date.

I just got back from the park. Yes, I noticed the Eurobuingee and the changes to the old laser tag area. I arrived at 3:30 and proceeded to get a ticket for IJST. Our time was for 8-8:45. The time was hand written in and the original time of 1-1:45 was scratched out. The reason was that they were only running ONE train, and had the other two on the transfer track. Anyway, between 3:30 and 8, we rode every major coaster, with the exception of the forwards Racer (we rode twice backwards). Additionally, we forgo Son of Beast, because they had just taken it down to one train operation and we had to return to IJST. I also spotted a possible hint about preparations for the rumored Winterfest, but I won`t divulge what or where.
-
I was at the park on Saturday, and IJST had some minor down time. (They were cycling the trains for a while). I got a ticket for it at 4, but we left before four.) It appears that they now in fact have all three trains on it. When we were walking by on our way to Delirium from The Beast, they were getting the trains launhed at a pretty fast rate. From the time we past the bathroom to the time we got to the floral clock, three trains were launched. (In a time period of only about three or four minutes).

I would not at all be surprised to see a Nick expansion. After all, it will have been three years since PKI added an upgrade to that area of the park. Also, the Nick Carwash is a strong possibility as it seems as if the park has held onto the Antique Cars (they are not sitting behind the Delirium control booth on the other side of the fence, vacating their former location to allow for the floats for the Nick Parade. IMO, it seems only logical that they would spruce up that area of the park since Carowinds did the same thing this year. I`m sure they really do not want to loose their golden ticket for Best Children`s Area (although they might for this season).
-
While it may be packed, I do not think it will be too bad, depending on when you go. Yes, it will be busy and not dead. I`ve actually seen the park busier than normal on many days this April and May compared to previous April and Mays. Perhaps it is all the school bands they had in the park this year. I don`t remember there being so many band days, spread out over such a large period of time, or larger crowds with them than there were this year.

Yep, I went to Holiday World for the first time last weekend. I don`t know when The Scream Machine is scheduled to open since I do not work there anymore (my brother still works in the rides department at Coney). I can tell you a couple other changed occuring this season at Coney. All the rides will open at 10 o`clock, instead of 11, like it was the three years I worked there. Additionally, the Baby Bumpers have been removed from the park. In their spot is the Frog Hopper, the new ride from 2003 that used to be located by the Carousel. The old Frog Hopper spot (which was the location of the Spin a Ree in 2002, before replacing the defunt Antique Cars (a circular car ride similar to Kiddie Freeway)) will be home to the ew Scream Machine. Additionally, they are running special admission rates for Memorial day weekend. $7.95 for admission to Sunlite Pool, $7.95 for unlimited admission to Coney`s Classic rides, and $9.95 for a combo-admission.
