Good-Bye Coney? River Downs Racino Looming
CoastersRZ replied to pilotank's topic in Coney Island Central
Time will tell what Coney has in store for 2014. Coney is certainly watching closely what is happening next door at Belterra Park. -
No, that is at the between inversions 4 and 5. (At the bottom of what many are calling the pretzel loop).
-
A visit to Coney is pretty cheap, compared to Kings Island. You can do the rides and the pool for about $25 a person, and that is at the gate without any discount. If you are just doing rides, it will cost you about $12 to $13 to get in. Which is a pretty good deal for a day of fun.

That is just gravel. If I had to guess, they are going to be moving "Clifford" here soon down into the valley, and the gravel is there to help facilitate this move and provide a solid footing for the crane during its move. Especially in light of the rain we got yesterday.

Good-Bye Coney? River Downs Racino Looming
CoastersRZ replied to pilotank's topic in Coney Island Central
Just thought that I would update this thread given the news that came out yesterday. Starting in May of 2014, River Downs will officially be known as Belterra Park. I certainly am not pleased with the new name. Talk about generic and placeless since there is already Belterra Casino in southern Indiana. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowds this draws, and what impact it has on the traffic coming through Coney next season. -
Now now. Lets not start throwing my legal name around. It will not be what you speak of. But it will likely be an intense ride. I personally have never ridden this type of ride before...
-
He beat me to it! That is a very accurate description! And the same technique is used in columns for building construction too, not just for coaster construction!
-
Why do you think that? Today is only Tuesday! The lift hill is one of the most complicated sections of the ride. It take a lot longer to put together than other sections of the ride. The park is open another two weekends. They were working last Friday well past 5pm and could be heard hammering on something until close to 7pm.
-
There is something coming for next year. Rest assured of that. And it will not be just a kiddy ride either.
-
Really? Looks more like supports to me and not track.
-
I have NEVER heard that about The Beast. I doubt much work gets done on it today, with the scattered heavy showers. It just poured here at my office on the east side.
-
Now days, and especially with B&M, the coasters are bolted together, for the most part. There are some section that are welded, but those usually are things along the lines of railings, etc. Back in the day, Arrow coasters used to weld the spine of the track to the support columns.

Valleyfair - New for 2014
CoastersRZ replied to Spectrum91's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I really hope that KI will get on the nostalgia band wagon. These rides share one thing in common: they are re-rideable and can be ridden by people young and old alike! That is a key demographic as it means families can ride, and families bring in lots of money for the parks. -
I didn`t get to really check out the fireworks. I was busy working. The park was busy. Maybe not as busy as last year, but things seemed to be better prepared this year.

Kings Island can`t get the Rock-O-Plane from Americana. Why? It is now running (and has been since 2007), at Cincinnati`s Coney Island. It received a nice paint job when it was installed at Coney in 2007. And it is not a very high capacity ride, since you are only loading one car at a time, and there are only eight cars on the ride. Not to mention, you have to keep the ride balanced (in terms of weight and what cars you leave empty). It is not exactly a people mover. But it is a very fun ride.

6-alarm Fire at Seaside Park NJ Boardwalk
CoastersRZ replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow. So sad. Fires can destroy things so quickly. -
About thirty to forty minutes, depending on the ride. Some rides, like Round Up hold 42 per cycle. While other rides like Ferris Wheel are slow by their inherent slow loading process. Please also note that due to the fireworks, Pedal Boats will not stay open the entire six hours the rides are open. Also note, that Kellogg Avenue will also close when the fireworks are going off.
-
Also note that Coney`s Classic Rides will be open from 3pm until 9pm. The first fireworks go off at 8:30pm.

Disney Underground

And if I am not mistaken, both Dinosaur and the Indiana Jones rides use the same ride vehicle design. -
New for 2014 at Holiday World...
CoastersRZ replied to McSalsa's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
They list next year`s additions as costing $8 million. http://www.holidayworld.com/news/holiday-world-sets-sail-8-million-expansion -
Let me guess: you helped design it, Mr. Architect? Well, I`m technically not an architect yet. My official title is an intern architect. I have so far only taken one out of the seven licensure exams to get my Architect license. I passed the structures portion so far.

I can assure you that the station for Banshee will work. They aren`t going to install a ride as expensive as Banshee if the loading station doesn`t work.
-
Excellent trip report, Brad! One day I will get out to Indiana Beach.

Well Vic is steady at the helm of Coney for now. And I think they already have someone lined up to replace him, when he eventually retires. He has been at Coney since 1984. And yes, I never say never. I know strange things can happen.
