Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Hawaiian Coasters 325 replied to Hawaiian Coasters 325's topic in Kings Island
Boy it sure is quiet in here today. I was thinking we'd be having a big discussion on Dr Action's order that was extended keeping KI closed until July at least. -

I have a feeling if they get a date this week that they're allowed to open on (could very well be July 1st), then I think they'll call employees back around the time they get the date. Note: I am a KI employee and if I get something, I will not post it here because of CF policy on sharing things. -

Dr. Acton just signed an order extension of gatherings over 10 to July 1st as well as lifted the restrictions on liquor sales. https://www.cleveland.com/coronavirus/2020/05/new-ohio-coronavirus-order-extends-mass-gathering-ban-until-july-1.html -

Nope nothing new. I think they will at least do a media day so that they can show off the ride to the media and let them talk about it to their audiences. For the people who raised the money for the benefit, I think they'l do something. It might be a multi day thing so that they don't have huge crowds coming at once. Probably depending on how much you raised. -

When my Mom was a kid, seatbelts weren't required by law, but her parents always made her and her siblings wear seatbelts because her parents understood the law of physics. Also sorry for double post. -

I was thinking. I wonder if KI is testing Orion like crazy lately because maybe they plan to do some first rides on Orion like media day, first rides for the fundraiser, and maybe season pass holders a week or so before the rest of the park opens. Just a theory of mine. -

Here's an interesting article. It seems like the members of the travel and tourism group are starting to get fed up with Mike DeWine. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if they start going after him kinda like what gyms did. https://www.cleveland.com/business/2020/05/ohio-tourism-industry-losing-patience-with-gov-mike-dewine-lack-of-timetable-for-reopening-zoos-museums-amusement-parks.html?fbclid=IwAR2TG3Rz8aTy3W5YZfQfTWso8l8Kkwf7ce5JTU4p0wz96CdvJwmJM8f0vU4 -

That article was posted a few weeks ago. It doesn't say a July opening in there. -

Yes they do train. They have specific training days for certain rides usually. However, I'm talking about once trains are put on the track does maintenance get the ride up and running first and do some test runs before ride ops can train. Btw I'm not working a coaster. I'm working the Eiffel Tower. -

Yes and no I'm not training lol. Do the ride ops test the current rides before opening day or do the maintenance people start? -

Aren't maintenance the ones who test rides before they are certified and ops are trained and of course opened each year? -

I'm sitting here wondering why.other rides at KI aren't testing yet. Only Orion is the only one fully testing. Yes WindSeeker has gone up and down the tower a couple times, but I'm wondering why they haven't started testing other coasters in the park. Like I always thought we were ahead of Cedar Point in off-season work before the shutdowns happened. -

I highly doubt it will be Thursday. Especially with the governor's comments the other day. I believe when they announce plans for big places like amusement parks and water parks, they'll say they will be making an announcement on those a few days before. -
Not trying to be that guy, but we are getting a little off topic. I think we should create a thread specifically for train ops tbh.

I have a feeling that DeWine also saw the mess that happened at CP back in October where they hit capacity and with the huge concern with the large number of gold passes sold. So that might play into why DeWine is very hesitant to open Cedar Point or even announce a time CP can open while the rest of the state is opening pretty much. I know by the end of the week 95% of the state will be open. The other 5% has to come from travel/tourism and large events. -

I have a feeling Kalahari is waiting to see if the governor allows waterparks to open by then. I think they may extend it at the last minute. -

It could've been worse though. The Illinois governor when asked about SF Great America a while back went on and said large places like that won't open until stage 5 which is when a vaccine or effective treatment is in place. If I were SF Great America, I would've announced the cancellation of the season by now tbh. -

I have a feeling that all types of mass gatherings of people are not going to all get the green light at the same time. It'll depend on the circumstance. Like I've stated in the past, Kings Island and Cedar Point is not an event. They are a large attraction that people come visit that also help bring in lots of money to the area. DeWine referenced them as a gathering of people because of how a lot of people visit the park. I can guarantee you that the large selling of the CP gold passes that caused the huge mess that weekend in October at Cedar Point makes him a little hesitant to open the parks. Events like fairs and festivals are in their own category. I'm still sticking to my original statement that amusement parks and tourist attractions like zoos and museums will open before large events like festivals can start up again. -

**DOUBLE POST** Apparently someone made a petition to try and get Cedar Point and Kings Island the green light to open. I signed it. However, I don't disagree with all of what DeWine has done for the safety of Ohioans. http://chng.it/KsVGSD5jLD -

Another thing I could see is he doesn't know when they'll open because he doesn't know the official date they will actually open. He could give the park the green light and say they can open on a certain date. That doesn't mean they will because Cedar Fair will be the ones to choose a date for Cedar Point and Kings Island based on what the governor said. It could be weeks after the date the governor gives them. It depends on what CF does.
