  1. I'm guessing a flat for Rivertown, or a major overhaul of the KI/MVRR theming (dinosaurs, perhaps?).
  2. This year was the first time I've seen the black cannons that shoot horizontally. Coming around the bend, I thought they were going to shoot a stream as big as their barrels (like a sideways geyser). Then a lame little stream came out like in one of those squirtguns from Wal-Mart, and I thought it was kinda stupid. I like the old geysers a lot better.
  3. I always hear people ask "Why do we have to get off?" the elevator atop the Eiffel Tower.
  4. Wwwwowww! Pre-Zodiac, Pre-Bat, Pre-SR&R! It's like looking at an ultrasound of "baby KI"! Awesome video! Thank you!
  5. I've always thought WWC was the worst ride in KI. It's not very thrilling; only annoying (yet my wife insists we ride it every year). The only way I ever get soaked is by the cannons/geysers near the end. This was the first time I rode the thing in a while, and the first time I ever noticed the black cannons pointing at us. I thought they were going to shoot water like the geysers! Kind of a 'head chopper' effect for water rides, if you know what I mean... Genius thing: 25c for a five-second squirtgun blast at perfect strangers is a good way to get over the disappointment. The ride IS better than when it first opened (1985), when there was a dirty, smelly greenish-brown foam floating around throughout the attraction. They've done a good job cleaning it up through the years.
  6. I'll try FH on a weekday. I didn't get much sleep the night before, so I knew FOF would beat the living nonsense out of me (Vortex, Beast and Racer had already shaken a few good bones loose; you gotta be up to your game at 38 against the Giants of KI!) I'll get in my FoF track time sometime later this year, after a good 10-hour snooze.
  7. Okay... I figured all of them except "RRRR". Which ride is that? Rug Rats Runaway Reptar. The "LMRR" is my many-decades old, incorrect reference to the KIMVRR (I lived in Morrow as a kid, and the remnants of the Little Miami Rail Road ran through the middle of town. Old habbits, you know.
  8. Well, my wife and I finally took our long-planned (and anticipated) annual trip to KI. We got up at 6:00, drove out to Preble County, brought our little cousin (10), and a friend of his (12)(this was her first ever trip to KI, and it was cool to see her first reaction to seeing the Eiffel Tower, SOB and Drop Zone as we came up Tylersville road. Big eyes, and a gasp of amazed anticipation. It was cool.) It was overcast and a little sprinkly, but overall it wasn't a bad day to visit the park. I was a little disappointed to be greeted by the strains of "Been around the world and I-I-I-I-I can't find my baby..." blasting over the speakers, instead of the bombastic, John Williams and Gabriel Yared scores that used to make the entrance much more enchanting. It felt kind of weird to me...and the music selections never seemed to get any better to me (all 'old' stuff). We tried the "let's sneak through the fudge shop to get ahead of the line" trick. No good: it was long in there too. Once the throngs were released, we walked briskly towards IJST. I think about 200 rude guests sprinted past us at a good 5 minute mile. We got onto IJST twice with minimal waiting, Vortex with about a 5 minute wait, Beast in like, no time, and then, suddenly, every attraction was Longlinesville, baby! (Even the LMRR!) I like the more 'personalized' interaction between ride operators and guests ("How was your ride?"; I thought it was just a "Beast" thing, but noticed they were doing it on a lot of other rides, too (Reptar, AE) It's a nice touch. Some of the sorest thumbs I noticed: 1. The Carousel was silent. No music. Sad. 2. Drop Zone was closed, and there was a sense of foreboding because of the recent 6FKK tragedy. 3. Delirium kept closing (operating in test mode) each time we got in line for it; 4. The F-14 is gone from the TG path; 5. Congo Falls (which we rode five times(?!?) ate my Cleveland Indians hat; 6. Vortex has orange seatbelt thingies; 7. I bragged all the way to the park about the cool glass blower.... who's gone. Sad. All in all it was a good trip. My wife says "best visit ever!". The kids were sad to go at the end of the day, but came away with lots of 'puff puppies' and LEDware. Ridelist: IJST, IJST, Vortex, Beast, WWC, SR&R, Zeph, VF,TG,CF,CF,CF,CF,CF,ET,VF,VF,RRRR, LMRR, AE, AE, Racer, and Vortex. ~sorry I put that song in your head
  9. Looks like "Nine Inch Nails"...
  10. I wonder if the decision to change the music come out of some stupid focus group. Is this something that, if enough people write to "Guest Relations", can convince management to return to playing symphony music? Or is this one of those "KI has a contract with Corporation X for the next ten years..." things? It just doesn't feel like KI anymore.
  11. My first trip was with my family on my 3rd birthday in 1972. I first heard about KIC in 2004 while Googling something about the park (can't remember what I was looking for, but I remember being blown away by how much info (P)KIC offered about the park!)
  12. It's those intense, scary rock monkeys at the end of AE, and the intensly intense bucket of intense lava that looks like it's about to be poured on you! Intense! Make it a 6! Aaah!
  13. ... If the movie Top Gun can get away with using US T-38 Talons as MiG fighters, then KI can get away with using F-15s as Navy Fighters. Still a great coaster.
  14. I'm sad to hear that they stopped playing the cool movie music. That added so much to the experience.
  15. Hmmm...Interesting... I wonder what kind of entrance they think Face/Off makes to the entrance to KI?
  16. My earliest memory was from 1972. I was 3, and my Dad got us and some friends and relatives rooms at the "fancy" new KI Resort. I remember seeing the Eiffel Tower up close for the first time (I remember being fascinated with it, with its flashing light). I remember the train whistle from the KI/LMRR echoing off the trees (I think there was a nature trail or something). The whistle was very loud, (and you could hear it from the Western Row Elementary playground in those days). I remember my Mom pointing out the Sky Ride to me, and I thought it was the coolest thing. I slept a lot, so it was a day of waking up and seeing neat stuff and falling back to sleep in my stroller. I remember seeing characters such as the Banana Splits, etc., and that's about it.
  17. I think they should release an aerie of hawks, in the manner that the IOC organizers release doves for the Olympics. Oh, sure, hawks are birds of prey, and may not behave in the same way as doves, but it would be original. Since the ride is called "Firehawk", it makes sense, of course, to set the birds' tails[EDIT!]
  18. Good old-fashioned, down-home Tennessee music (such as gospel quartets). The church there actually has non-denominational worship services on Sundays (haven't been on a Sunday; don't know what they're like). They also have wood carvers, glass blowers, etc. Have a look-see: Dollywood
  19. Let's not forget Timber Tower! I like Dollywood's surrounding mountains. Beautiful! And, there's something about a park of which one of its attractions is a church. Nifty! Paying that much to get into any amusement park makes me want to take care of the place; i.e., I'm not tempted to litter, or to vandalize, or to use foul language. Somehow, parting with a chunk of my paycheck to enjoy a theme park makes the experience that much more valuable, so I find myself wanting to keep it nice and amusing.
  20. Would that mean a belt that acts as a backup if the shoulder harness failed? (One like on Delirium?) I love Vortex, but I must admit, for some reason (call me nuts) but I always have a quick fear of flying out of my car when cresting that hill right after the loops (before the turn into the corkscrew). I've thought that a little "seat-to-harness" belt would make it even more enjoyable. But, then again, I've never heard of a restraint failure on Vortex, and a little fear on a coaster is what thrill's all about
  21. ...okay, I'll reply I've gone to Kings Island many times across 34 years of its life, and I've always noticed promotional theming of one kind or another when a new attraction is added. It's easy to imagine that there might be some kind of sign or fanfare to herald the park's newest coaster. We'll have to see. All the best, Thrill Biscuit
  22. Wouldn't there be signs that let guests know that the ride is being tested?
  23. I know what you mean... I almost crashed into the 'split' in front of the cinemas when they were building IJST
