  1. I've been calling them 'gondolas' for decades. I could be wrong, though. Maybe 'canopies?'
  2. Nothin' says 'waterpark' like the old summer anthems of "The Cars," "Loverboy," "Culture Club," and, um, oh, yes... Tommy Tutone! (I can just smell the chlorine and Coppertone. Aaaaaaah!)
  3. ^ Yes. It will feature music from the early 1980s. [emphasis mine]
  4. Yes! That was it: 148' (Thanks, McSalsa)... Now I remember: I told the dude that the ride was taller than where we were standing. That made it even more exciting. ^^ I, too, have long legs, and I think I remember being able to stretch out in the front cars. Then, I think in like 2007, the front cars seemed cramped, like some kind of wall was installed in the front cars...?
  5. Epic! Thanks for sharing. Love seeing all the Nixon-era cars on International street!
  6. That was the year I graduated (2nd best summer ever!) I remember all the hype being not only about the six inversions, but the height of the lift hill (don't have it memorized, but something in excess of 120 feet, which was a 'wow' back then). I was on my way to Air Force basic training, and stayed at the then-Holiday Inn across I-75 from Downtown Cincnnati, and was on the 12th floor, looking out a window, and I told some dude standing there something like, "Man, if that new Vortex is over 120 feet tall, this is about how high the first drop is supposed to be!" Didn't ride it until years later. I never go without my 3-ride-per-trip quota ever since. Happy Birthday, O Steel One!
  7. I can't see the picture. I'm sure it's an awesome card, though!
  8. ^,^^,^^^,^^^^,^^^^^ Thanks! (The "Timber Tantrum" has been a dream of mine since I first played RCT1... I don't think science will ever stack wood that high in my lifetime, though LOL). Driving by the park this morning. The sleeping giant, rising out of the icy treetops, still looks like it could wake up again soon. I've seen the park's changing skyline for years (the number of which I'm not ready to admit), and I just can't imagine the park without SOB - or any new giant - anchoring the northwest side of the park.
  9. You know, if you slice spam thin enough and fry it, you'll have a meat lover's delicacy that eats like potato chips.
  10. I hope to ride it again as well. If not, I'd like to see another record breaker of some kind (and not one that gets owned by another coaster in the same year (DB vs. 305)) ... Ok. As promised. Last one, folks: (No sons of beasts were harmed in the making of any of these videos.)
  11. ^True. The same might be said for the top spin as well, but there has been some humorous banter on here about the Crypt "being like a Ferris wheel ride" because of the tamed cycle.
  12. They're going to take the top spin out of the Crypt building... ...and put a nice Ferris wheel in its place!
  13. I wondered for years how they did that! I thought the hitchhikers were projected! That and the ballroom scene were very convincing when I visited many years ago. This is one 'secrets revealed' post that doesn't disappoint me, because it's even cooler than the effect to see how it was done.
  14. ^Your attempt at masking profanity turned into an e-mail address! Seriously, though, it's nice to have such long-range line-of-sight on the coming season.
  15. Wait a minute... BLSC is a "low thrill" and AE is an "aggressive thrill"? Well, ok. EDIT ... and there's a glaring, giant-elephant-in-the-room omission in the "places to stay" section, unless I'm not looking close enough..
  16. Why apologize? You guys always do an awesome job (and this community has some real dead-eyed deputies with their quickdraw on the report button, too (yipee ki yay...))! (Some topics can look like spam, but be perfectly fine; like the time someone had a topic about the "Mirth Mobile" on here a few years back. I thought it was spam for a new wireless company (reading the accent on the o instead of the i in the word 'Mobile'). I had forgotten that this was the name of the car on "Wayne's World".)
  17. Maybe one of the workers would be holding a blue print ... featuring what may or may not be a loop!
  18. KICentral to me is like that small, intimate and unique 'Mom 'n Pop' grocery store (with the little short-order café in the corner) that's out in the country, where like-interest folks can come in and chat, and where new friends and/or neighbors are welcome to stop in and feel like part of the family, sip a little coffee, and go enjoy the rest of their day. In contrast: facebook is like... Walmart: giant, ubiquitous and busy, with so many different things upon which to focus, any one area of interest gets lost quickly. There are other things that I can compare, but I'll leave it at that.
  19. I still have the program right here at my desk. That was the day they re-created 1975 in the park. I kept going down to the walkway behind Festhaus just to get into the "Do The Hustle" thing with the "theme people" (two of whom looked uncannily like my mom and dad c.1975)...hmmmm? Anyway, that was a good day at the park. ... I remember video of Robbie walking past Invertigo right as the ride 'looped' his head. Funny stuff.
  20. Man, that's going to be an awfully short coaster! It looks like some B&M hyper track, and with the Eiffel Tower's color scheme.
  21. I chatted with a dude at the Deerfield Wendy's who'd driven from Indy to visit Kings Island once last summer... zat you?
  22. This didn't really seem like a good location for a cinemaplex... too far from residential areas, and across from an amusement park whose patrons usually are too tired and/or broke to take in a 21/2 hour movie after exiting the park...
  23. I'm glad it wasn't a dimension, as in "feet high". One-nineteen seems a bit minuscule for a ride height, given Kings Island's existing catalogue of 120+' thrill machines. [edit] Unless, of course, it is a 119 animatronic of some kind
  24. I remember that ride quite vividly! Each basket had a center pole with a 'sit n' spin' handwheel, which you could use to spin the car around. My uncle would tell us he was 'unscrewing' the car from the main wheel, which of course I didn't believe, but it was fun to watch the reactions of my yet younger cousins...
