Those last two photos are really great. For the Oktoberfest photo, if I am nit mistaken aren't those the columns you can see while waiting in line for AE present day, the ones that look like they line the road? For the on ride photo of Vortex what year was this taken? I'm guessing somewhere between 1994-1997?

I have heard Vortex is notorious for coming loose, not significantly but noticeably during the ride. Never truly experienced this myself, just a rumor I have heard.

Love the photo of the letter. As a Public Relations major it is nice to see some PR related stuff from a time when the park was just beginning to blossom.

I missed the episode sadly, but after reading your alls reviews of it it seems that the only thing worth watching was the Boo Blaster's segment.

Nice to see construction pictures, they always seem to intrigue me the most. Very nice photo.

Track Spotted
Jasper replied to LongLiveTheSmurfRide's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Judging by their Facebook and the Leviathan website, they have at least topped off the track and are starting to build onto the station. This ride looks incredible, although it would kind of ruin the Behemoth ride experience to me when I could walk across the park to ride a coaster very similar, that is topping 300 feet. -
I got the chance to ride the Cobra while it was still at KI. Do not really remember it however, I was younger and do not really recall the ride experience.

Nice picture, love old KC shots. If anyone has any pictures of the highly sought after queue line then that would absolutely make my day.

Last year I was on the front row first train of FoF, so good luck with getting that achievement!

What are some of your New Years Resolutions pertaining to Kings Island? For me, it is just to spend as much time with my friends there as possible and make as many good memories at the park as I can, and also break my last year's ride total on all rides.

Another great off-season topic, love these.

No idea really, but judging by looking at the tree coverage I am gonna go with 1974.

Thanks again for a great topic and a look back into 1974 and what the park was. This was really a great topic and every picture never ceased to amaze me. Happy Holidays and thank you again.

I miss the overall park atmosphere and just being able to walk around in the park and go take a ride on Diamondback, go marathon Drop Tower, get soaked on White Water Canyon, or even just enjoy a mid summer night's walk through the park looking at the majesty at night.

Ah it makes me smile to hear a Great Taste, Less Filling story, truly a Viking Fury tradition that the park should mandate into a park rule. I would have to pick 1974 in this shot, due to the fact of how serene the park looks from this angle. On a side note, it seems like KI present day is a lot more.....bushy. I have not really ever stepped back to think, but KI does have a LOT of trees.

My thoughts exactly on that post. I am really surprised no decisions have been made yet on what to do with the ride, but if you really step back and think it has only been 2 FULL seasons of the ride being close, 3 overall seasons of it being closed. That isn't a terribly long time compared to oh say Drachen Fire that closed down in 1998, was put up for sale in 1999, lay dormant until opening day 2001 where a train was circuiting the course to possibly re-open the ride, and then demolished in February of 2002.

Isn't KD's Crypt a regular Top Spin, whereas KI's is a GIANT Top Spin though?
-
I am gonna have to go with 1974 on this one Trebek. Look how nice it is to see down Coney Mall and see the beautiful bushes and trees.

Great photos, good to see kind of an un-official update of what is going on in the park. Could you tell how far along the Soak City construction was along?
-
Thanks for the photos Indyguy, I love seeing the park during winter rehab. I hope you got some shots of the inside of the park as well.

I would love to see KI during the rehab process, never been to a park when it is closed before. cough cough...KIC Event...cough cough

Keep them coming, this topic is really giving me something to look forward to for the 2012 season, seeing where all these old attractions were located at.

Really nice to see the Tique's and not just an empty field.

Standbyme, thank you for this topic. This is really amazing to see how the park has truly changed over the years. Cannot wait to see what else you are going to post, keep em coming!
