Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)
RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I would put money that the crown piece of the lift hill is either over the midway or for the crane to be able to lift it safely must be positioned on the midway, so it is not over extending to lift a massive piece to that height. Its all about crane placement. -

RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
They are not going to raise any supports or track pieces that would require the crane to be on the midway in RiverTown until after HH. Why? Because a crane of that size lifting that much weight will destroy the path in RiverTown. Look for the rest of the track pieces and supports to go up that dont involve the drop over the midway. -
Nice PTR, good pics, and glad to see it looks steep in person. The first drop is going to be one of the best around.

what do you think cedar fair could do to improve ki?
RailRider replied to skaterboy22101's topic in Kings Island
Add a B&M Hyper.... Check... That was the most glaring hole in the KI coaster lineup. Now they just need to continue with improving dinning options and continualy adding live entertainment and having special events at the park. Really the future looks very very bright for KI under the guidance of CF -

As mentioned above they do know what they are doing. And yes the first drop is going to be steep going up and steep going down. Like I keep saying 45 degrees going up, thats the same as Millie up North, really steep for a lift and the drop is 74 degrees. Just by the statistics alone and the way they translate this will be one of the best first drops around... -
I have been waiting for the Urgent Scare logo. That is awesome... Mmmm I just like the abbundance of foggers I saw sitting in all the pictures so far. Should really be nice and thick

Universal’s IOA help please.
RailRider replied to Avatar's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
My break down so your not running from island to island. Walk in, turn left and move from island to island in a counter clockwise manner. First Marvel Island. Ride Spiderman and then Hulk, head for Toon Lagoon. Toon Lagoon is neat, but keep moving. Dudley DoRights is down for rehab. Next up Jurassic Park. Ride The River Adventure. Up next is lost continent, Ride both Fire and ICE in the front seat. There is never a wait during peak summer hours so you should have no problem doing these in 10 minutes. Make your way through all the Harry Potter Construction and finish in Seuss Landing. While in Seuss Landing ride Cat in the Hat. Great indoor dark ride, your daughter would love it so it will give you a reasson to take her back some day. IF there are no crowds you can easily do this, But if crowds are bad, dont miss Spiderman, Hulk, Dueling Dragons and JP River Adventure. Good luck and enjoy. -
When did you join KICentral?
RailRider replied to Captain Nemo's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
The environment has definately changed around here. I remember the merger of the 2 sites and the dropping of the P from PKIC. Things are for the better and this community has really grown. Especially while I was in the basement this place really grew. -

I had a rather lengthy abscence for almost the past 2 years, but with the addition of our daughter to our family there wasnt a whole lot of free time. Im still hoping KICentral Survivor comes back. Now that was a great way to spend the off seasson. Im still bitter that I didn't win. hahaha -

I think your a week ahead. Next weekend is the first weekend for HH, Starting on Friday 9/26. Just clarifying and yes the sooner you can go the less crowded it will be.

What exactly was Torture Tower? It was an ill advised attempt at a house at the top of the tower. It was very popular, but capacity was, understandably, limited, which resulted in very long lines. It included, among other things, the usual electric chair with a victim gag. Capacity was horrid, employees (who were instructed to do so) banged on the floor of the tower with some observers reporting damage (similar banging went on on the cars on Phantom Theater, to the absolute horror of some park guests...including me..I was afraid irresponsible guests would copy the behavior of the irresponsible park managers who allowed such later, when the park was no longer in Fear Fest mode...they also tossed rubber snakes into the cars at first, until guest complaints put a stop to that). Yeah like Terpy said Torture Tower was a Haunt at the very top of the Tower during the first year FearFest. Because of the tight quarters and the height it was a really good Haunt, plus the first date my wife and I ever went on. Romantic right? Anyways capacity was horrible as were the lines. Thats why it never came back.

Shouldn't make it unstable because it is attached to the ground via supports, so should be very secure. Heres a great way to visualize the difference in 15 degrees. The Son is at 30 degrees and Millie up North is at 45 degrees. Diamondback will have one of the best drops in the industry -

The drop angle is in the press release and well noted. I dont see that changing or being off. But you can use your protractor during HH to verify my calculation that the lift hill will ascend at 45 degrees. -
I see, thanks for clarifying. I really dont want to go in to $1000 range. I just want a good camera that will take pictures in succesion like you mentioned BoddaH with great quality and wont kill my wallet. I think somewhere around 12 is awesome, compared to now there is 0 ability for pictures in succesion. I assume from what I have read that Cannon and Nikon are my 2 best choices in DSLRs. Thanks for the help again.

When you talk speed, Im looking for something that once I take a picture it is pretty much ready immediately. Basically I dont want much or any delay between pictures. No I dont need it to be so fast I can catch every step of a wide receiver catching a pass, but fast enough to catch emotions and movement before the subject is completely gone. Thanks for the help

The line is still that long if not longer, oh wait thats cause its an awesome ride. -
Both Curving and Straight. I perfer a straight drop on a steel coaster, epsecially one that you cannot see the bottom of the track. Mavrick, Millie, Titan and Apollos Chariot are some of the best steel drops around. Now if we are talking inverted we need a curved drop. Something like Alpengeist, Montu, or even Ice Dragon have amazing curving drops. Now when it comes to Wooden coasters I prefer a curving drop, as in ThunderHead, Wildcat(HP), or Roar. Nothing like getting the latter G fest started with the first drop. Although I must admit the Son still has one of the best drops around, thats why I choose both.

Kings Island Brews Up All-New Kids’ Halloween Event
RailRider replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island
I guess this puts us back on topic. Looks like a lot of Hay Bales, wonder if they will open that up for HH for the adults? -
My wife and I are looking to purchase a DSLR. We take a ton of pictures and its time we had a better camera. We have been through 2 Cannons and currently have a Nikon, good cameras, but we want better. Ive been looking at a D40, but Im just not sure. Im wanting something that has great quality, fast response to taking pictures in succession, and isnt going to be so huge I never want to carry it. Any help would be apprciated.

I am pertty sure that Mean Streak opened with a few trim brakes. It wasnt till the mid to late 90's that ride became extremely rough. They added more trims and in 2001 they retracked the coaster. The coaster today still runs heavy on the trims and I believe will be seeing some more extensive TLC in the near future. So I can deffinately see where ridding in the early 90's would have given a much different ride than in the past few years. Mean Streak has gone through some changes and right now it is not in optimal shape.

RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
The only reasson I ever brought up my finding on the lift hill angle is because it is steeper than your normal B&M Hyper. We are talking 45 degrees, which is the same angle that Millie up North has. I think thats a little unexpected and just another added bonus to what should shape up to be a great coaster for KI. Geometry is a beautiful thing. -
^ What year was that???

RailRider replied to Captain Nemo's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
3/29/2005 I never joined KICentral, but I joined PKICentral... Only 3 years ago but man I remember when it was announced that CF acquired, lots of folks were ready to jump and there were those of us that cheered.
