End of Daily Operations Aug 4th.
robintodd replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Kudos to Cedar Fair for the decisive and early decision to bite the bullet and extend all passes through 2021. They were the first and I believe the only ones to extend through the next year. I have done my best to spend over and above what I normally would this season just to hopefully help them out and show my appreciation. Kudos also to the IT department at Kings Island. I believe most of the IT for the chain is developed from and tested at KI. They did a great job with the reservation system (as long as it lasted) and their efforts are appreciated. Finally kudo's to the staff at KI. All levels of management and employees. I can honestly say I have yet to run across an employee that was negative about the situation this year. Keep up the good work, it's noticed and appreciated. "Thanks for working 2020" -

It would be possible the numerator would go up as well. What about people that have died that showed symptoms but they didn't give a test to?? Also the flu is not as deadly as COVID. The truth is we just don't know and may never know the actual numbers. One thing is true, this particular strain did and has become a pandemic. A title the the "seasonal" flu never received. You may not believe in the science or the virus, but it does believe in you. Better safe than sorry, especially when sorry will be the last thing some may feel. Our forefathers sacrificed much more through wars, the depression, etc. I don't think most people today would be able to go through what the greatest generation survived through WWII. Whenever I think things are tough, I remember I would only have to endure this for a year or 2 as opposed to 5 years. They stood in a bread line, I stand in line for tools at home depot. They put on flight suits, I put on a mask. -

OK, so 7X greater than the flu. Except for this the CDC you referenced are requesting face masks and social distancing. Two things they have never brought up before in flu seasons. https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/p0714-americans-to-wear-masks.html -

Don't know where you learned your math, but 6% is much larger than 0.1%. Plus, how would you feel if a relative of yours was in either of those percentages. https://www.wfla.com/news/by-the-numbers/coronavirus-vs-flu-how-deaths-number-of-cases-compare/ In 2019, the CDC reported that 0.1 percent of people who contracted the flu in the United States died. So far, more than 6 percent of people with coronavirus cases have died, around 52 times higher than the flu’s death rate. -

Noticed today on Cedar Point's site they are no longer requiring reservations as well. -
Couldn't tell...they had masks on
-
Face shields are also acceptable.

Ohio is 9th in anti-masks wearing activity. Not surprising 8 of the top 10 went red in 2016. https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/report-ohio-among-least-cooperative-states-when-it-comes-to-wearing-masks/ It wouldn't surprise me to see a statewide mask mandate to come this week. Cedar Fair did and continues to have the right policy on masks.

It's happened at CP before. Plus it's happened with bad weather days. I know some people who went to the park only to find it was a washout. I would expect they would treat over capacity just like a washout. Blast it on Twitter and social media. Honestly though I don't see them hitting anywhere near that, especially with the mask restrictions in place.
-
They can have time to wipe down after every show. They would only do the rows where people are sitting. Much safer than having people standing on dots while people are trying to weave in and out of them trying to use the walkway. I guess they will find out.

I hear they like to wash them down with koolaid My grandson who is 5 was hospitalized with an infection last October. They ended up saying it was Kawasaki disease. My wife and I both think he had the covid since children end up showing signs of Kowasaki once infected. This thing has been around a while, just nobody had figured out how to identify it until November - January timeframe. He is fine now but sometimes children who get Kawasaki disease end up with life-long lung issues. Some of which don't become prominent until their mid 40's. This covid thing is dangerous reguardless of your age. Be safe. -

We'll wait till you're done with it. On second thought with the pandemic we shouldn't drink after everyone, plus it seems as if you've finished it off. It's not about you, it's about your fellow man you may spread it to. Guess you don't care about them either. -
Why wouldn't they use the international showplace. Put the "roof" back on and that way the audience can get a break sitting down in semi-shade. Only open every 3rd row and put markers on the seats. As a bonus the performer is in the shade as well. Seems like they're missing an opportunity here.

My apologies, I should have said 'seemed' asymptomatic. The damage would be a symptom once they are able to recognize the damage, which may not be till later (maybe years or decades). It's not like they give a complete MRI or CAT scan to every person who tests positive for COVID. This is also the reasons vaccines take so long in the later stages of testing. Usually they wait 6 - 18 months after the treatment to rule out any side effects. -

Cedar Fair once again is the leader among companies with the mask requirement. Kudo's to them having the courage and forethought to help fight the spread! I guess people who don't want to wear masks won't be going to Kroger, Target, Sam's Club, Walgreens, Publix, Best Buy, Wal Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, CVS, Kohls, Costco, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Menards, Starbucks, Verizon, Panera Bread, etc. Where's the outcry and petition over these companies? (Crap, that means they'll have more time to sit home and post :)) Kudos' to all of the stores for doing their part during the pandemic. -

You do know they still aren't sure about the ability to catch it twice. Plus no one knows the long term effects of the virus. It is possible that just because someone is asymptomatic doesn't mean the virus can't do permanent damage to the brain or lungs. Plus you do realize that not everyone contracted HIV or SARS but those viruses have been reduced from their non-pandemic status and it wasn't done through 'herd immunity'. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/07/16/covid-19-can-you-get-infected-twice-herd-immunity/5429012002/ https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/dozens-more-cases-reported-of-neurological-problems-in-covid-19-67717 https://www.healthline.com/health-news/lifelong-lung-damage-the-serious-covid-19-complication-that-can-hit-people-in-their-20s -
Just looking at the crowds this year it seems now would be the perfect time to re-pave the parking lot. Just a thought.

Agree 100%. My wife is a nurse (35+ years) and also worked as the manager of the office of research for a little while. Testing kits are kept locked up and handed out just like medication. Counts are done and all kits must be accounted for. As far as results from "unused tests". You do know they can see the difference between a swab that has been used and one that has not, right? Not saying the test is infallible, but I would hope that with the state of things the way they are now and amount of time it takes to get a result from the current levels of testing that anyone who sent through an unused test would be reprimanded for using up resources that could be better used for the common good. Not to mention it would violate the Hippocratic oath all medical professionals take. -
I will say I notice more than once employees walking with several markers in their hands and replacing them in the lines. It should also be noted that I constantly see 1 employee in the larger queues wiping down/disinfecting the rails.

They had it last year as well (my wife uses it). They have the same sauces as Backbeat. Spicy BBQ, BBQ or Mustard BBQ. Easy to miss considering the Spicy and Regular BBQ are almost the same color on the sticker. Because of the COVID they are giving the sauces in cups. Just ask for it at the end of the food line.

Coney BBQ does have a spicy BBQ sauce.

Fall fun at Cedar Point
robintodd replied to Baldgr81's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
And KI still only has hours till July 31st. I suspect in the next week both parks will be showing August hours. -
I thought about closing every other row in the queues as well. Not sure if that is possible as not every row has the hinged gate to swing open/shut. I believe that is on every other gate which would make doing every other row problematic. at best you would have two rows together and then two blank rows. I will note the markers are never next to each other in the rows, they are spaced not to have one marker next to another one in the row. Additionally the markers are in some places as much as 8-10 feet apart on average (from what I could see).

I've been about 5-6 times and have been mostly impressed with the adherence to masks. If you feel someone crowds you in a line, just give them a "look" and they usually remember and back away. It's understandable that people now and then forget with the excitement of being in line for Orion, but for the most part I've noticed social distancing each time I've went. Just remember, people tend to take pictures of the exceptions and not the norm. A picture of people social distancing isn't nearly as likely as a group that isn't. I've seen plenty of pictures of accidents on the streets, but rarely a picture of traffic moving safely. Any one who doesn't I have found I can easily avoid. I have found the employees to be pretty diligent about reminding people and extremely kind, friendly and willing to help in any way they can. All the employees this year are fantastic and you can tell KI put in some extra care and training this season. You can use this map https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards/overview to see Warren county (where KI is located). Warren is low - mid. It's hard to judge just based on the number of people that come from Indiana and Kentucky not to mention other parts of Ohio. As far as crowds, I have found that lines for the coasters have been pretty much on par with what they are usually during the weekdays in the summer (10 - 45 minutes depending). Of course getting there early to get Orion passes is a must and then you can probably get some rides on Mystic and Diamondback before your time for Orion. Also the last hour to hour and a half of the day is pretty barren. They don't hand out tickets for Orion for 6-7 so you may be able to get a ride or two in then. Hope you have a great time, make sure to let us know how it went and safe travels!
