1. So that's done due to state regulations and not the park trying to be overly cautious?
2. When were the orange lap bars and seat belts added on to The Beast? I saw a video of it from 1985 earlier, and it had different entrance gates at the station, black buzz bars (similar to those on Tornado at Stricker's Grove) and no seat belts. I don't remember much about my first ride on The Beast, but I think I may have ridden it before the current modifications were in place.
3. I'm partial to 3-2 on Adventure Express. It's literally smack in the middle of the train and offers a nice smooth ride.
4. I'm with you on that one Terpy. I absolutely hate it when the restraints click down another notch on Delirium once they release the floor (not sure why that is).
5. How I wish we could still have a Beast with buzz bars and no seatbelts...
6. Great to hear! If I'm not working that night I'll definitely try to make it up there. Two fireworks shows at two different parks in one weekend should be fun (I'm planning to hit Balloon Glow on the 3rd)
7. How did this one make the list? 85 feet tall and 1:40 ride length. RCDB says top speed is 48mph. Doesn't seem special to me. And how can they say it has an "old-time wooden frame" when it opened in 1996?
8. I think KI could use a Tip Top as well. That ride is so much fun (not to mention extremely dizzying).
9. As much as I love the "Nights of Fire" thing that we had during the Paramount era, Cedar Fair likely doesn't have the budget for such extravagant events... For those who aren't familiar or don't remember, here's a taste of what we got 5 years ago... <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385">It's a shame that the park isn't doing the 5@5 thing on Facebook anymore. This would be a great question to ask there.
10. Note that the price increase only applies to regular adult tickets. Junior/Senior, group and season pass tickets remain the same price regardless of when you purchase them.
11. I don't see the stock taking off until Kinzel is gone and the company gets its act together. Many unitholders are furious with him at the moment, and there's that huge debt that the company still doesn't have a clear plan for repaying...
12. I'm wondering if Kinzel's re-election to the board was just a way to buy time until a suitable replacement can be found. It's amazing that there were enough people voting for him to get him re-elected, unless there wasn't a "no" option. I don't see Kinzel lasting much longer. It would also be fun to see what happens to his son when dear old dad is no longer in charge...
13. I agree. The lack of ability to search for specific phrases on this forum makes the search feature all but useless at times. I've found using Google to be much better (enter "site:KICentral.com" without the quotes before the search terms in the search box).
14. Now it asks for questions for Thursday's.... That's the note from the last time they answered questions (May 27th).
15. There are quite a few hotels/motels in that area, but since I only live half an hour from KI, I don't know which are cheapest. You can pretty much find anything from basic motels (Super 8) to fancy hotels (Hyatt, Mariott) within 10 minutes of KI depending on your preferences and price range. There is a Comfort Suites right up the road from KI (a little further north than KIRCC), and a few more places near The Beach (a small water park just north of KI).
16. They have since deleted the note asking people to submit questions for Friday the 28th... I'm going to send an email to Don asking what's up with this. I would think if they were going to stop doing it they'd at least give an explanation...
17. KI does not have its own warning sirens, but Warren County does have a system of sirens, and several people here have reported hearing them while at the park. There are two sirens close to KI - one at the Cintas complex and one at Kings Mills and Columbia next to the fire station.
18. I saw the 5:00 show today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been looking forward to this one as ESOI was my favorite show last summer (though I never saw Marty's Party). I've seen several of the Peanuts specials, the Snoopy Come Home movie and have read the strip for years, so I recognized all of the themes they touched on. The skaters were quite talented (like usual), and I thought they did a great job with the music selection. This year the music covers several decades, unlike last year's show which mostly stuck to 70s music. And of course they keep finding new ways to get guests to shell out nickels - now they have vendors selling cotton candy and flash toys/necklaces before the show.
19. When I rode Zephyr earlier, the ride op said something like "Enjoy your ride on Zephyr, which goes up and around, then underwater 6 times. Smile for the camera!". Back on topic: Guest, talking to his friends, while waiting in the SRL at Diamondback: "This is how I rode this 5 times in 5 minutes!"
20. Just for clarification, the NWS does not set the sirens off. A county EMA worker or other local official does. (It varies depending on the location and how things are hooked up).
21. Not necessarily. Watches and warnings can be (and often are) issued only for parts of a county. The reasons that the sirens are set off for the entire county can vary - sometimes it's because of the possibility that the danger could spread to other areas, and other times it's just due to lack of training (those responsible only know how to set off all the sirens in the county).
22. Impressive! Did you do that through the telescope or does your camera have really powerful zoom on it?
23. I'm hoping it's just that they're really busy at the moment (Starlight Spectacular, the ASA thing last weekend, Rock Band Live starting tomorrow, going "full time" next week [beginning Friday, the park will be open til 10pm or later every day until late August]), but I may email Don later to see if we can get a definite answer. Even if they chose to end it, I wouldn't expect them to just leave us hanging like this.
