  1. When you've already decided that the tax refund you haven't received yet will partially go towards covering the cost of an enthusiast event...
  2. The FAQs page says "There is always a staff member at the facility 24/7 to care for overnight guests", so in theory that means you could pick up your pets after hours as well. I do fully understand their reasons for wanting advance reservations and vaccination records as well. Hopefully they'll have more info up for KI guests in the future.
  3. I would assume if KI is partnering with them, they will be open later during the park season to accommodate guests staying til park close.
  4. Apparently the Red Dog in Mason just opened a few months ago (September or October) (they've had another location in Cincinnati's Oakley neighborhood for a few years now). I guess KI figured that there was no point in having a pet care center now that Red Dog was nearby, even if it is more expensive.
  5. Also note that park tickets don't go on sale until April 1st - just 3 1/2 weeks before the park opens. KI and Holiday World already allow you to buy tickets online for the upcoming season...
  6. And... some of us old farts actually have that record on (yep, I said it...) vinyl! Some of us "young farts" do too
  7. The majority of the people in that area live in Kentucky. According to 2010 census numbers, of the approximately 1.3 million people living in the Louisville metro area at the time, 741,000 of those were in Jefferson County, KY alone. From what I understand, they barely advertised outside of their home market last year, even though KI was opening Banshee. Now they've got an even closer competitor opening a shiny new B&M. They also have to work hard to clean up the park's reputation. They don't seem to care to address the issues with attracting a rougher crowd, and last year there were numerous PR disasters, plus the stupid decision to add a drop ride.
  8. Security guards cannot monitor every square inch of property, no matter how many you have or how good your camera system is. Also, with it being the off-season, I would imagine they currently have reduced staffing. The good news here is these two idiots were caught and the infant is now in a much better situation than he was. Hopefully this woman will get the help she needs, whether it be rehab or time in a mental hospital.
  9. For 2014, admission was $44.95. Parking is $8. Holiday World is $44.99 but you save $5 if you buy online.
  10. I even saw a Dollywood billboard around here recently, and they're 6 hours away in an area whose main industry is tourism. If they're advertising here, there's no reason why Kentucky Kingdom shouldn't be. Sure, they can try to get Southern Indiana, but advertising a major urban park in more rural areas isn't going to get you a lot of visitors - especially with Holiday World being closer and cheaper.
  11. (Note: "he" is Mark Turner, executive director of a redevelopment committee now managing the park). So whose idea was it to appoint these volunteers in the first place? Just because you're committed doesn't mean you are capable of running/managing the place. And if they were so overwhelmed, why didn't they speak up and ask for help when problems first arose?
  12. That reminds me of the famous "Catchup Advisory Board" sketches from A Prairie Home Companion... Featuring the talents of Garrison Keillor, Tim Russell, Sue Scott and Richard Dworsky.
  13. I would indeed call the park. They can look up your order in PayPal and likely either cancel it (so you can go through the process again) or send you a confirmation of some sort (depending on how the Accesso system works).
  14. I can't imagine how you'd do that piece with only two musicians. I'll have to check that out when I get a chance...
  15. As of May he was "90% back on the job": http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/05/06/subway-fred-deluca-fast-food-restaurants/8690843/
  16. If they invite coaster clubs I'll definitely try to make it out there for media day, since it's on a Thursday and I'm off on Wednesdays and Thursdays right now. That could change by April of course, especially once baseball season starts again, but we'll see how things go...
  17. It's really not a bad park. Kentucky Rumbler, a wild mouse, a haunted house ride, antique cars, some dizzying flat rides (Tornado, a Power Surge, Scat II)... It's far more than just a couple coasters and fair-style flat rides.
  18. It will be a V-shaped bridge based on a rendering on the aquarium's website: http://www.newportaquarium.com/What-to-do-in-cincinnati/New-Exhibits-Coming-in-2015.aspx
  19. Just found out about this although it was announced about a month ago... http://beechbend.com/AmusementPictures2015/Press%20Release%20Update%2012-6-14.pdf Pictures available in the PR linked to above. I'm now thinking I might have to squeeze a "Kentucky Parks" trip into my plans this summer at some point (take a weekend to visit both Beech Bend and Kentucky Kingdom).
  20. Try not to be nervous about the interview, and just answer the questions as honestly as you can. They're not looking for expert answers - they just want to make sure you're serious about the position and will be a good employee. I'm sure they'll take the fact that this will be your first job into account as well. What department(s) did you apply for?
  21. Whoever is in charge of marketing at the aquarium always has something planned to keep people coming back it seems Once again they're doing "winter family days" (2 kids get in free with every paying adult), and that conveniently runs through March 1st, at which point their giant Galapagos tortoise will be leaving - just in time for the otter exhibit to open. New otter exhibit in March. Bridge over the shark tank with new sharks in April. By the time the busy summer season hits, those will have gotten plenty of press, reviews, etc. Also, the website says the Weeki Wachee Mermaids will be back in the fall.
  22. I will probably be there at least part of the time on opening day, depending in part on when the passholder preview night is. If I end up taking a day off work for the preview night I'll probably go in on that Saturday. I'm trying to avoid taking a lot of time off until after May due to having two enthusiast events in the course of three weeks in May (Coasterstock and Holiwood Nights).
  23. Also face-palming at "Raging Rapids River Ride". They seriously couldn't come up with a better name for it than that? And people complained about generic ride names at Kings Island...
  24. Here's the banner they had at the GOCC holiday party, if it helps at all.
