  1. Are you sure its not just the re-theme of Wings Diner?
  2. Don't worry goofy... I enjoyed smash factory too...
  3. Your previous post alludes to these two rides, being built nearly a decade apart, are two peas in the same pod. In all honesty, I think your analogy of these two rides is unfair, they share the launch system. Comparing Powder Keg to Ring Racer seems like more of an accurate analogy to me...
  4. Perhaps you could elaborate how XLC is an indicator... neither the trains nor the track really bear any type of resemblance of XLC...
  5. I must say I had 3 fantastic summers working on Beast... Riding those 'special' rides after the park closed were just awesome... and fast... but those days are long gone...
  6. "And how exactly do you know nothing is wrong with the coaster? Terpy, wondering..." How do you know there is something wrong with it??? Cupids arrow... just wondering...
  7. Wow, that certainly was exceedingly high on the maturity scale. It goes to show your true character when an impartial "moderator" would mock a user, a supporter of the website and then being naive enough to think slapping an emoticon on the post negates the mockery. I guess it just reaffirms my opinion that you offer little if any constructive moderation to this website.
  8. (1.) whew... there are some salty sally's in here today... (2.) to coin a phrase... (3.) ... "why so serious" (i can make lists too hehe)
  9. I know how you enjoy posting news stories and such, however, the news you are "BREAKING" in with was reported by Screamscape just yesterday, and if you look at the most recent Screamscape update, it may debunk your news story... ...bummer
  10. Punishment!!!! LOL "mom I just was punished from a website"
  11. Holiday in the Park seems like an increasingly popular event spreading through a certain park chain... I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see this trend continue... i wonder if the same will occur again for another certain park chain... here's hoping
  12. Interpreter, I suggest you check out Somersplash in somerset, ky.... most thought it would fail....
  13. Who is to say there was "too much sex stuff"? I doubt the complaints you speak of remotely come close to the amount of satisfied customers at the Haunt. There are so many disclaimers posted virtually everywhere about the adult nature of the event, and how its not for children. If you get remotely offended, perhaps you should not attend. I would be utterly shocked, stunned, amazed, perplexed and dumbfounded if the park were sued over what you mentioned... Its an adult theme - with big disclaimers...
  14. Well the one they made out of match sticks apparently didn't hold up?
  15. I don't think i would go so far as to say "The entertainment from CF is far superior than that of Paramount" As a matter of fact, there are probably quite a few people who disagree with you...
  16. if youre interested in helping these "poor victims" WCPO has updated the story again... http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?...90-d76f9e1e908b I will not be sending anything and be okay with that
  17. I think this is the point where the topic has been beaten and we're going to have to agree to disagree. There is blame to be placed, whats up for debate is how much, if any applies to the internationals/Kings Island/work agency. Unfortunately all the information we have been discussing is a media outlets version of one side of the story.
  18. Considering they break into regular programming to alert everyone about the horriffic drizzle coming down in Erlanger - I think your room constitutes a national disaster... I'll be tuning in to the five o'clock news...
  19. Brown, I totally agree... The I-Team offers nothing more than sensationalist claims. Its clear these students did not explore all options before "contacting" the media... Oh and "just becuase its in the Kings Island handbook"... is exactly the reason why their employment should be terminated immediately. Those handbooks are printed and drilled into the employees heads for reasons just like this.
  20. You must have worked for a different Kings Island than I did... I'll have to go dig up some pay stubs - I was able to work essentially as many hours as I could stomach and made okay cash for my age. "Kings Island loves to over hire, then lay off people and fire them too." I could not disagree more. There are certain number of bodies and hours that are budgeted for each ride, food location, game and whatnot when you reach your budget you stop hiring for that location. There is not a mysterious surplus of employees just waiting to work. It was not uncommon for 5 -6 times a week associates were sent to other rides for lack of staffing, or other departments for lack of staffing. Perhaps you should have asked if there were any additional hours you could pick up, because at the Kings Island I worked at, there were plenty.
  21. Lets go ahead and rewind here just for a second. No one person is paying 1200 dollars a month. 4 people (maybe more?) are paying the "1200" which would be 300 dollars each and of course, that is much more affordable. Cobra, have I, yes I, I looked in to cab rates? As a matter of fact I have and am very familiar with taxi fares as I utilize that specific service regularly within my travels. I think it is you that is unfamiliar with cab rates. I suggest you google Cincinnati area taxi's serving the West Chester area to get specific fares. All Cincinnati taxi milage rates are the same @ 1.60 a mile. (Apparently prices have gone down since 1985) I cant imagine that they live that far away from civilization. So if we just assume that they live about 5 miles or less from the restaurants and IKEA in West Chester, that would be a 10 mile round trip ride, totaling 16 bucks, split 4 ways is 4 dollars. I think they can afford 4 dollars. If I had to guesstimate an average work hours per week, I would bet around 50 - 55 hours per week @7.00 = 1500 (ish) before taxes. After taxes I would think around 1100 dollars, minus 300 for rent so we're down to 800 dollars. Considering that is around 800 dollars that no gas comes out of, that's not too bad. I guess I'm just thinking out loud... I just have a hard time believing that the people i saw on I-Team, the clean shaven, well dressed, bathed individuals are in the misery they claim.
  22. Gordon Bombay, 1. The internationals could take the work van to and from the park to catch the bus - the segment never specified if they had to be working to utilize it. 2. I suggest you look into cab rates before you start assuming they are extremely expensive - especially split between multiple people. 3. At least my post had a little more substance than the ever present non-moderator slap on the hand There are a substantial amount of "what ifs" in this story. Is Kings Island in the wrong? Maybe. Is the agency that placed them to blame? Maybe. Did these students really utilize all avenues to get resolutions to their complaints? I refuse to believe so. If this story was from a bunch of inner city kids, or preppy kids from Springboro it would not have made it to the news. Because these internationals are easily portrayed as victims by media, the I-Team will jump on the story... If i were Kings Island, i would be thinking about who i invited to my 2009 announcement.... As a side bar, something that has bothered me for an extremely long time... A few years back, when living in Cincinnati, there was a Styrene leak on the east side by my residence. This was literally breaking news for the i-team for 2-3 days non stop. It was the only important story. What really bothered me, was that there was this little rain storm called Hurricane Katrina that blew in to New Orleans those same days, yet it was only seriously covered after the styrene leak was deemed "non-threatening". Since that moment, Cincinnati news to me, is a joke. I was embarrassed to live on Beechmont Ave... Oh well....
  23. The last time I checked, Kings Island provided at will employment, which can be terminated by either employer or employee at any time. In my experience with the international students, they claimed to live in the UC dorms and take the bus to and from the park and there was little complaint if any. I have little sympathy for these students as they could take the express bus from the park into downtown. Then they can take in all the sights of glamorous Cincinnati they can stomach. We shouldn't forget either, there are these yellow cars called taxi's that can transport groups of humans from point a to point b for a nominal charge. I certainly hope Im not the only one who found the irony in the empty, bare apartments in west chester, home of IKEA (you may have heard of them, I hear they have inexpensive furniture). The situation is virtually the same as that in Sandusky, only the internationals work even more. I sincerely doubt they work 6-7 double shifts a week leaving them no time to 'play'... Its news stories like this, from the quality unbiased I-Team, that will effectively cease the international work program. You'll note Coney Island, Great Wolf, The Beach nor Coco Key offer these programs. I would be interested to know how much gas money that nice air conditioned van takes each trip to and from KI. I wish i could take a shuttle to work. I guess they only eat at Kings Island as they have no transportation and are living in apartments in the middle of no where so how could they possibly get any food to the apartment?! Maybe im out on a limb, but I doubt those students repeatedly demanded to have the living situation "issues" addressed... In any event, those empoyees, regardless of nationality, attended the KI orientation and they are all adults and understand what the park expects of them. Going to the news, is not exactly one of those suggested venues for finding a resolution. Considering the large amount of negative press this is going to create, I would expect some form of disciplinary action taken. If that means to terminate the employment and get the J1 yanked, then so be it. No pity from me... Oh, and interpreter, thanks for pointing out that double post - added a lot to the topic...
