Sandusky and Cedar Fair
Avatar replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
When a company hires employees close to home they tend to get some pretty loyal employees, as they are grateful for the break/opportunity. This could come back and bit Sandusky though (I’ll explain) if another company was to buyout Cedar Fair and replace the management - half of Sandusky could be suddenly unemployed. -
People young and old love parades and something about night parades or other evening entertainment really brings people in. I think they will do well with their new venture and have thought I would like to go down there to see SFGA and see their offerings, but after seeing their plans it has got me to thinking how I can make that trip possible. I like SF new approach more and more everyday. BTW Thanks for the video link Interpreter.

Themed Entertainment Association
Avatar replied to Avatar's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Monroe – I can see and understand how you could make your comments in regards to the TEA’s report. But what I took away from the report was not just who placed where but also how the industry was doing as a whole and where. From the description of who the TEA tries to inform I can see the value in their assessments of the industry, in fact they do list how they come to their conclusions and yes the smaller parks with less than 1 million visitors are purposefully left out. Now to expand on the Disney reference, I felt the TEA’s report backs up another report that Interpreter shared with us on this board http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12311 It talks about Disney going into markets where there is a major source of population in the area. So when I see Disney’s numbers listed in the TEA’s report I can see that Disney may really be onto something. While we see others in the business going to where the money is right now like in Dubai, where the competition in the area may be fierce in a few years. Disney focuses on putting down roots in well populated areas where they can keep guests and potential customers within arms reach for a variety of products/services for many years to come. -
The Themed Entertainment Association has released its annual report (14 pages long) http://www.themeit.com/attendance_report2007.pdf Nice read. Looks like Kings Island finished right behind Cedar Point in 17th in overall attendance with just 70,000 less visitors than Cedar Point in the North American category. Also it looks like KI attendance was flat in 2007 with the opening of Firehawk while Cedar Point's attendance went up by 1.5 percent with there opening of Maverick.

First of all I hope Mom and Baby are doing fine and second please do not post any more pictures of your recreation of WAH until you post a least one picture of your new arrival, or a few of us Dads on here will have to make a trip out there to give you a crash course on proper priorities. Now to your question/opinion; if moving into a larger house with a bigger basement is not an option then I would be happy to see your work done in sections. Concentrate on an area then after time change it to another section to keep your project fresh and new. Good luck.

http://www.break.com/index/kid-thrown-from-amusement-park-ride.html''>http://www.break.com/index/kid-thrown-from-amusement-park-ride.html'> http://www.break.com/'> I haft to admit I get a little worried if my tiny Daughter wants to ride the similar ride at KI.

Here is a picture of KI carousel band organ shell; And some one mentioned about a special Winterfest horse which so happens to be my daughters favorite horse that she calls “Peppermint Christmas Ginger”. Here is a picture of her on it and you can see the initials of the front of the neck of the horse of “DDB” Also I am going to add a player that I copied of some carousel music feel free to enjoy.

This new 5th park at Disney World will be exciting to watch as more information come out on all that it will offer. At $250-$300 per guest including a nice meal and all your non alcoholic drinks for the night is nice touches that will help guests take the plunge as they know they won’t be nickered and dimmed for food and drinks. It’ll be nice to only have 2,000 other guests in the park at most but I wonder where they’ll find 4,000 service workers in that area. This attitude in this quote always gets me though; At $325.00 a night for a room at one of the deluxe during the value season, I think it’s hard to pay that much then spend $1000.00 for the family to be away from the resort. In our case last year I gave my family a choice of either 8 nights at a deluxe and spending half days at the park, for a total of $2,600.00 Or 14 nights at a value resort for a total of $1288.00 and the savings being used to go to the water parks, Halloween party, cirque solei, and souvenirs. (Disney paid for all our meals and snacks with either choice for the duration of our stay) No one voted for the first choice although we would have liked the deluxe resort experience, but we will save it for a shorter stay. I think they will miss out on some potential guest visits if they overlook marketing to the value resorts too.

You do it the same way you would embed a picture.

You’re the man Ronny! That’s the one I was talking about, I did not know they tore it down sorry to see it go, but in truth in today’s time I really disliked the conditions there for organized hockey above b level hockey. Picture below was a photo taken when my son went to summer hockey camp at Miami of Ohio with on of the coaches there. (son is on the right) BTW thanks for the link to the pictures.
-
Ronny good to hear that you are supporting your local hockey team as well as the old Redskins. I know the rink you are talking about as I have been there too, in fact I have been in most rinks here in the Midwest. I think the coldest was the semi outdoor ice rink in Hamilton Ohio, in fact at the time I was there they used chain link fence around the uper boards instead of Plexiglas. The teams often had to dress in the bathrooms there and put their skates on around a fire pit.

Actually Cincinnati has a pretty good youth hockey through high school programs with a pretty good amount of players. Also a collage sports program that is not financed by the school is considered to be a club program. Now Miami of Ohio is a Division 1 hockey program, they recruit internationally and are a real treat to watch in person. The last time I watched a Miami of Ohio hockey game in person they where still known as the Redskins, in fact I still have an old game worn jersey from the team with the old logo on it.

Will Disney Keep Us Amused?
Avatar replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
First third of the article is interesting and looks at the financial condition of Disney as a whole and also talks briefly about others in the Theme park business and things they need to do to be more interesting. What I thought was very interesting is that Disney is ripping out some oh-hum carnival workhorses to be more up with guests expectations. Seeing how KI may be reverting back to an old time American Amusement Park,I liked this quote; **** Now for those who like dark rides and want a glimpse into what’s new in the dark ride industry and the interaction the guests will get when Toy Story Mania opens or those who would like to get a glimpse of how Disney imaginers came up and developed the ride the bottom two thirds of this article is a must for you. -
^Actually there is some island at KI, it came from Coney Island.

SFDK Goes Digital This Season
Avatar replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes sounds like QTV but with a advertising twist to it. Sounds like they can remotely display and change what they want shown and where almost instantly. Although they are trying to be discreet in what they show in the surroundings that the ad is to be played at. Just another way to make some much needed money, at the same time trying to tell the quests this is an enhancement for them. -
Congratulations to you and your wife! Looks like it’s time to take the mock-up KI WAH monorail apart to make room for the new play-room.

Oh yes The Contemporary Resort at Disney World, I haft to agree that it is in need of a nice decorative face lift. Have said the location alone (very short walk to Magic Kingdom front gates) gives this resort a magical feel to it. In fact some of my most fond memories at Disney World has came from that resort and I have yet to stay over night there. The first was in 2006 when my family and I decided to take a boat from Fort Wilderness to the Contemporary Resort to watch a special firework show. When we got there 2-3 other families rushed up the dock to go inside the resort while we lingered on the dock literally all alone. Then we noticed someone coming down the dock towards us then my then 6 y/o daughter started screaming and running towards this person, it was her favorite childhood character Peter Pan. He walked with her talked to her and even watched the fireworks with her on the docks. I admit it still chokes me up thinking of that moment. The next treasured memory was last September my wife and I had a special Anniversary dinner on the top floor of the resort at a restaurant called California Grill. My Mother knew we were going there and had sent flowers ahead of time for us. Well the restaurant put us in a private room with the table setup with the flowers and other special materials overlooking Epcot in a distance. The waiter came by and introduced himself along with his assistant, they congratulated us on our anniversary then they both got on there knees to get eye level with us to talk about our likes in food and wine choices. They were superb. While we waited for our appetizers we watched EPCOT fireworks from our table then right before the main course was to come out our waiter and his assistant said they would like to take our picture to give us as a keep sake souvenir. They then said that they asked the chef to put our dinner on hold and invited us to go outside to view the Wishes Fireworks at Magic Kingdom from the roof of the Contemporary Resort. The way my wife and I where treated it felt like I was in on of those shows that highlights romantic places for couples. Oh what a memories, thanks Contemporary Resort Disney World.

Yea I was noticing how well it was kept up in the video and I liked how packed in all the rides were to each other. To be honest it brought back memories from an era gone by. -

That’s the thing with truffles – even though the outside looks good you get the real treat when you bite-in.
