1. Nice detailed report Bill, I’m glad at the end you did give a brief comparison to GWL. I agree with you a wave pool is a nice relaxing area to spend some down time while others are out riding the slides/attractions. Glad to hear you had such a great time with your daughters, Wow 7 and 10 already where does the time go!
2. Yes Gordon you are correct it did not switch over to a buffet until post season “06” and that was done as a test, according to Maureen. PKIVortex - I do remember watching them cooking the ribs and chicken outside. I always felt sorry for the workers as they always looked really hot. But on the flipside it really fit into the surroundings back then of a river town complete with smells of an outside BBQ. Back then it was the “must eat their” place in the park and you had to hunt for a seat. I like TGI Friday and would probably eat their if they put on in at KI but I would much rather see something unique and fun put instead.
3. I still have my season pass so I would be in. who else?
4. We are season pass holders to “The Beach” so we where able to get in for free which was nice and that is actually the reason we went, “It was free”. We ended up doing some shopping, Skating, rides and dinner, so we did spend some money while there. Would I go back? Yes – as it was not the best Holiday Event that we have attended, it was still a nice way to get out and to enjoy some time with the family. Last year a lot of guests seemed to put down “The Beach” carriage ride, but we really enjoyed that a lot. We originally were going to go to KI WinterFest as we where waiting to go the second year so that KI would be able to improve on there first year performance and because the first year was so cold. I was really looking forward to going ice skating with my daughter for her first time. Since “The Beach” offered ice skating that is where we ended up and now “The Beach” holds a special place in my heart for an endearing family memory. <param'>http://avatar.phanfare.com/video/3;19279553;">
5. I voted for all of the above but would like to note that I would like to exclude the food as a reason I go.
6. To prevent accidents or injuries to Disney park guests, the Segway Tours at Epcot are only done while the World Showcase part of the park is closed. They also have Segways in the Inventions pavilion that you can take a couple minute spin on in an designated area separated by a fence to prevent stray Segways with inexperienced riders. I tried this out during a recent trip, it was a lot of fun and easier than I thought but, all participants are required to watch a short instructional film and then sign a waiver. There are no Theme/Amusement parks that allow the Segways to enter their parks during normal operating times. I will guess as long as insurance companies refuse to pay claims for injuries resulting from accidents from the Segways then I can see way they are banned from the parks. I can not think of any other Theme/Amusement park that tries to cater to the handicapped the way Disney does.
7. Very well put, I have been biting my tongue concerning this matter too. I brought some friends over last month and suggested to them about buying season passes for next year, they figured with this year’s visit plus 1-2 for next year that it would be a good deal for them and would consider it. I then told them about the free jacket and that helped push them over the edge to purchase. I could go on and on about this matter, but for now I just want to just thank-you Standbyme for expressing you opinion, because I have been feeling the same way. I am sorry but I think Cedar Fair should have and if not then that truly speaks volume to their marketing department.
8. KIBeast you do know that it is improper to put Goofy and another Cool word in the same sentence. Cool word = Fonzie Making a statement like that back in the good old days would have been fighting words and Pinky would have been just the one to straighten you out on that.
9. Sorry Interpreter but you link takes us to a sign in page.
10. Nice report Robb I really enjoyed your fun captions with your photo’s to structure your report. I did follow your link too see some of your other reports from your trip and I just have to say It looked like you all had a blast and did a lot parks while in Orlando. I also attended the MNSSHP this fall for my first time and I was truly amazed as how much fun it was. I went in thinking it was just going to be another evening at MK with a lot of special lighting and props, but to my joy it ended up being one of my favorite evenings while we where there. I am still having trouble getting some of those MNSSHP tunes out of my head. One more thought; I think you should receive some type of award for having so much fun at a sold out special event at MK. Most people come back and complain about how miserable they were. Great job again thanks
11. See…Kinzel knows what he is doing, if attendance figures fall just raise food prices to show a higher per cap per guest spending. Genius
12. Thanks Interpreter I just caught that. Recently I suggested to another member of a possible week’s vacation some possible possibilities in this post http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=184157 I also like Disney a lot as I have a DD7 and we always stay on Disney property at the end of August through September for free dinning. I like KI a lot and hope you go there, but I just would like you to know a possible solution for a trip to Florida for a fellow member. Book the Disney free Dinning promotion in September (Value room $82.00 per night) that includes 1 Counter service meal, 1 table service meal and 1 snack per person per day at no charge to you, it’s included with your room. You could do breakfast at the resort for your counter meal then go to Sea World or Universal Studious or even Aqautica Water Park due to open in March. Then in the evening go have you free table service meal at one of the Disney resorts or Downtown Disney. HTH some If any of these possible choices inters you I will give you some names of hotels in the prospected location choice.
13. I have stayed at many hotels in the area and can help some. Yes the KI Inn is in a bad need of a rehab, area hotels close to KI charge a lot when just a few miles away you get more and a nicer hotel. GWL is right next to KI but for as much as they charge I like to spend all my time at the resort to get my value worth. 3 questions How old are you children? Are you planning 3 days – 2nights? Are you interested in other family activities in the area for a slightly longer stay?

Planning

We live in Indy and have stayed in the Cincinnati area a lot including the GWL. I will assume since your referring to a weeks stay that you would be going to Kings Island during the Summer Operating Schedule. In that case keep in mind that GWL would be charging their summer rates which would get pretty expensive for a weeks stay. GWL has enough to do that you really would have no need to leave the lodge, especially since you are paying for those activities through your room rate. Two things to remember about GWL is that 1 rooms may not be ready before 4 PM and two you can still use the lodges activities until closing on the day you check-out which, which you have paid for. So yes GWL is a great destination resort to stay at for a week if you are comfortable in spending that much for room while not getting your full value of use. If it was me I would split my stay up and stay 4- nights in another hotel (maybe something overlooking the river) then spending the last 2-3 nights at GWL. Sample trip Check-in a northern KY hotel with balcony overlooking the river and the Cincinnati skyline. Go to KI for 2 days 1 day go to the Newport Aquarium, shop, have a nice Lunch (slower relaxed day) 1 day go to a Ballgame, zoo, play or Coney Island Last 2-3 days hang out at GWL – go back to KI during the day on check-in day for more time at KI then after 4 PM check-in at GWL. Spend the last couple days relaxing at the lodge. We have done plans like this in the past and have made some great memories in the process. Good luck in your planning - Jesse
15. First of all I doubt they move Congo Falls to BB. But I wish they would because I too do not ride Congo Falls because I do not like walking around in wet clothes. I also suggested a while back that I thought Congo Falls should be relocated to BB and that a path leading to WWC from BB would be great for those of us who would love to ride in our swim suits and for those who go to BB (to wait on family/friends) but will not put on swim suits would have something to do while waiting. I have been many times and worried about guests looking overheated while standing around in regular street clothes in that area. Also it would give another reason for park guests to go over to BB. Side Note; I really do enjoy Water Parks and I am super excited about planning a trip to see Sea Worlds new Water Park in Orlando called Aquatica http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/seaworld/27262/ , which is suppose to open sometime in March 2008.
16. I reconize two people in it. one in the second and one in the third seat. They must have had a good time making that promo.
17. Peter Pan was quoted to say after many great accolades of his knowledge and achievements to say “Yes I know – I don’t mean to sound conceded, but it is just that I can not tell a lie.”
18. Interpreter – I sure hope your birdie is right as we will continue to come to the Nick Or Treat festivities if it is true. I had seen on various post that next year there was going to be a up-charge and that was more confirmed as the young lady who helped me with our renewals made sure that I understood that we would not be able to use our season pass next year in the Fall. So much misinformation, I consider my self a KI enthusiast and even I can not keep it straight.
19. Hey Ryan we have been going to Nick or Treat for the past three years and yes I have always found the kids to be very entertained because of a special event in their neck of the woods. Kids really like to dress up to practice on their up-coming Trick-r-Treat evening. Spending time with the family during Nick or Treat seems to be done at a more relaxing pace as compared to visits through the summer months. This year I would like to commend Kings Island on a nicer and well laid out activities for the kids, candy stations, Sponge Bob’s bubbles. The Pumpkin Patch was a nice scenic journey through the woods and when the kids got back there was a lot of tables set up with plenty of markers for the kids to decorate their pick of the patch. <param'>http://avatar.phanfare.com/video/3;29598606;"> In my opinion the Magic Show was very entertaining for the kids, with a very nice decorated stage. I am also going to add a short 24 second video to give a small sampling of the magic show and the kid’s reaction to the show itself. <param'>http://avatar.phanfare.com/video/3;29598459;"> Now after that nice glowing review of Nick or Treat I must sadly say this may very well be our last visit to Nick or Treat for a few years. We live out of state and next year we will no longer be able to use our season passes to get in. As nice as Nick or Treat is, it is my opinion that it just will not be worth driving 2 hours then paying additional gate admissions plus gas for the shortened hours. I am not saying it’s not a worth while event but one that we will look closer to home for. This will also make it harder to renew our passes as we usually do it during this time.
20. I would rather see the cyclones in action on the ice, but for now a quick visit is in order so i will see you there.
21. I wish I lived closer to Cinci for those quick opportunity trips. I thought the new attraction must have opened this year and was named the twilight zone after hearing about bill paying for your food. Sounds like you guys had a great time and you got a new experience with a old park, thanks for sharing.
22. Buchers; nice job for your first trip report hope to see more down the road, just a little warning about your new cheap date girlfriend “I heard she’s dead in bed”. You have been warned my friend.
23. short & sweet report sounded like you had a great time with more good times to come, looking forward to those reports two.
24. The complaints that I see the most is for long lines for Haunt attractions and as we all know – guests standing in long line = guests not spending money and guests resistant to paying to come back . So my confusion would be – Why give free event tickets to a target market who is not known to spend a lot at parks and why would you put you’re otherwise willingly spending guests in longer lines giving them less time to spend their money while waiting in longer lines? I understand that giving free tickets out through the air waves is a cheep way to promote a special event.
25. Ronny – Awesome and interesting report!! Thanks for taking the time to be so through in you facts and photos in your report, it left little to be asked but much too look forward too. Well welcome home I hope all is going well and if you do get some time to do a follow-up to this report I would certainly be interested in reading more, but most important I hope that you have some quality time with your family while home. Thanks again, sounds like a side trip coming in the future. Jesse
