  1. If you could have anything on PKIC as far as content goes, what would it be? Examples: More live shows and entertainment coverage i.e. Schoof of Rock interview Exclusive PKIC content i.e. Winterfest construction tour photos General park photos General park videos More event coverage i.e. Beast Buzz Please be specific in your ideas. Remember that this is your site and we just run it, so we try to cater to what you, the members, find interesting and enjoy seeing on the site. Thanks, Ryan
  2. I did not know that. I actually wondered how they conditioned the ice. They could have always turned the freezers off at the end of the event and turned them back on a few hours prior. That would be risky, but it would call for a smooth surface to start the day with.
  3. ^ I don't have any actual numbers, but based on the PKI I know, a sellout would be wall to wall people.
  4. I'd say so... First of all, you're right, the train should have no problems running under any conditions if it's anything like a real train. Ice, snow, hail... nothing to a train. Secondly, if PKI had a Zamboni, which I don't think they do, I don't think that would be the way to go to fix the rink. With out cold it is, putting warm water on the snow would just cause lumpy ice patches (kind of like what up and down I75 right now). Festhaus as well as any indoor venue should be fine under any condition. As far as the Winter weather goes, Jeff warned me and I think I warned all of you that if the weather did get really bad, they would cancel the event. It's not like they backed out at the last second, they already had the policy instilled. The park's pathways have been and continute to be pretreated. That's not the problem. I'd say the problem is within the lot. That thing is big... really big. Even if they took every truck that PKI owned and stuck a plow on it, they still wouldn't be able to have to done to a reasonable degree within a 24 hour span. Just remember, PKI didn't do this because they hate winter, they're afraid of snow, and they weren't paid off by Scrooge. They did what they thought was in the best interest of the employees and guests. They put safety before profits, and yes, I'm willing to bet anything that they loose money by having the event closed for the day. Even if they made "free" money off of people who bought specific date tickets and won't attend the event at all now, they still loose the food and merch revenue from those people and everyone else who intended to attend today's event. I actually applaud the park for this. You guys can point fingers all you want, but this is definitely a sign of decency.
  5. I'm going to level with you guys... I think that $25 is really expensive for the event. Now, anyone with half a brain can pay a lot less than that so it's not hard to get a good deal. I think $16.99 is a pretty fair price for the event. Even parking isn't bad. I mean, I challenge you to go to a Reds game or a Bengals game and get parking cheaper than that (on the Ohio side). I mean, if you start nickel and diming how much it's going to cost, PKI is always going to loose in your eyes, but if you just think of it as a big family night out (as I think it's intended to be) it's really not too bad. I mean for an average family, it would be nothing to drop several hundred dollars in a day at the park during the season. So $100 for a family to do their business is logically a good rate. But once again, if you're looking for value entertainment, go to the 2nd run movie theatre, Winterfest isn't that. It's not cheap, it's cold, and for a lot of us it's a long drive. Now, counter that with the fact that the park looks amazing, the shows are some of the best ever, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is to die for, then decide what you want to do.
  6. He's actually touching the track in his... normally I'd be jealous, but instead I'm just glad that I didn't have to get a tetanus shot like you probably did. lol
  7. ^ Ha... so you upload a huge picture that's clearly a dial up nighmare of Jungle Jim's and don't even include the monorail? You've gotten soft.
  8. Outside and maintained is very different than outside and left to it's own accords. I agree. Even from a distance you can see that KC's track doesn't look like it's in great shape. Under normal circumstances it could probably be restored, but I'd guess that it would be more viable to manufacture a new coaster rather than to refurb and reconstruct KC at another park.
  9. The stupidity of this thread has dropped below PKIC standards. Closed...
  10. Generally words don't have numbers in the middle of them.
  11. Congrats! As much as I love hanging out in the park with people like you guys, there's nothing like taking a newb on rides like DZ, Tomb Raider, or The Beast! Getting free tickets is always fun to do.
  12. Agreed. As far as we're concerned, it's not the offseason quite yet, so we'll start eagerly anticipating 06 in January.
  13. Plus with the exception of the initial move from Coney, when have you known PKI to get a 2nd hand ride?
  14. I doubt there's much truth behind that. In fact, my guess is that within the next few years, April and May will have several sellout days similar to September. It seems as though that's a good way to get people into the park during a dead season.
  15. Allthough RCDB's info is usually pretty accurate, they do have odd tendancies to remove and add coasters from the site. I'm not entirely certain why. Also, from what I've heard, KC's track was more "cut apart" than dismantled. From what I've heard, they cut through the bolts instead of unscrewing each one. Likely because the coaster would be unusable to anyone due to it's metal fatigue. I'm not certain on that one, but that's what I've heard.
  16. I wrote him a thank you email as soon as I found out, thanking him on behalf of the members of PKIC. I'm sure he'd want to hear from you guys too, although I doubt he'll have time to respond.
  17. PKI Trivia would be awesome! Unfortunately, only a few of us would be able to answer most of the questions, and if they dumbed it down, it wouldn't be too fun.
  18. No, it should AT LEASET be available through Winterfest. My guess is it will be available during the 06 season as well.
  19. Maureen just e-mailed me with some very interesting news! A new product will be available in PKI stores this weeked. We're talking about Kings Island-opoly! It features silver game tokens which are a carousel horse, coaster car, star, director's clipboard, boomerang, and much more! This retails for the every day low price of $30! Make sure to check it out on your next visit to Winterfest! This is definitely something for any PKI fanatic!
  20. Nah, people come and go. It just seems like a big year because of Jeff.
  21. You're probably right, but in that case, it would be cheapter to rent the equipment for 10 years than to purchase it.
  22. I think they were in there when we were up there taking WF construction photos a couple of days before media day but I'm not certain.
  23. ^ Ha.. I have NO idea what you're getting at man. I will however point out that Bill said that they rented their Fearfest stuff the first year too. Must be PKI's way of taking the safe route with these new projects.
  24. As much as I would love to see more rides open, I think you know as well as I do that if they opened Tomb Raider, there would be a 3 hour wait for it... in the freezing cold. Just go an enjoy the food and shows... worry about the rides in April!
  25. I went to Holiday Fest two years ago and they did the same thing, but the slide wasn't frozen over. You'd just take a dry run down one of hte slides in a sled. I bet that's how they're doing it this time too. It was uber-lame.
