  1. I have noticed that it has been closed a lot in the past few weeks. It's just simply out of place being in Nick Central and not in CDBB. Of course, foul weather and a lack of employees has been a problem with PKI this season, so that's probably the reasoning.
  2. I can't, in my wildest dreams, imagine getting whiplash from Taz. Are you sure you didn't have a preexisting condition? Regardless, I'm glad to hear that you're ok now. So the park wasn't that crowded Saturday? I was over in CDBB taking my half of our 167 pic update, and there were insane amounts of people there. I thought maybe it was just from the novelty of BB, but I looked into the parkinglot and it was just a sea of cars! I originally intended to ride some stuff, take the pics, and head over to the dry park, but instead I rode the new attractions, took a few hundred pics, and when my camera ran out of batteries, I went home. lol Regards, Ryan
  3. I am fairly certain that all of the water in the wet attractions is treated in some way. For example, if WWC wasn't treated, then all of the runoff from the land, which would include animal feces would all just be sitting there. On some days, that would be still water. This would be a bacteria haven. It would be a good way to get hepatitus or cholera. Ever gotten creek water on a bleeding cut and not had the chance to wash it off? More than likely it got infected. Fortunately, the human body (when healthy) has a heck of an immune system, but results could be deadly in a worse case scenario. Basically what I'm saying is that if it's not chlorinated (or treated in some way) it's probably tested daily to make sure that there isn't some kind of bacterial infestation. I'd put my money on that it's treated with chemicals, though.
  4. ^ Don't get me wrong, I don't want to play down Coney at all. Sometimes I go there just to kind of hang out and walk around. Especially before Riverbend concerts. Plus they have a couple of carnie-style that you can't find at PKI. A lot of fun on a day when you feel like having a relaxing time at a park and it seems like PKI will be crowded. It's especially good for corperate picnics and summer conventions. Anyway, back on topic. It would be cool if the did theme AZ a little more. Maybe have some realistic statues throughout the area that looked like studio lights and stuff like that.... I just think they went in the right direction the first year and then just kind of stopped. I still really do like the area, though. Ryan
  5. Beast hands down. I don't feel as though i really need to say why.
  6. Coney Island is not defunct, it is still a park, CM and IS shuold stay the same. Although Coney Island does exist where Old Coney once did, it's still not the same park. I'm actually basing this information off of a page that is an archive of almost all defunct parks in the USA. Click here to check it out. Some of the info and pics are really neat.
  7. I have no doubt that they'll revamp Coney and slap a new name on it whenever they feel it is necessary.
  8. Don't sweat it guys, this is the first of many, but if you can make it, please do!
  9. I totally disagree. Coney Mall is a great tribute to the late Coney Island. It even has some of Coney's old rides, and carries the same look and feel as the now defunct park did. Wouldn't sacrifice it for anything. ::Moved to battle room::
  10. Just a guess, but I'm willing to say that they keep the film as well as the programs in storage.
  11. Doubt it -- the reason why the closed the park was because of the floods more or less destroying the park every few years. I've seen a video on the history of Coney Island. It was totally amazing... talk about the park that will not die. They showed the footage of the last day that Coney was opened. They had a big fireworks display and then at the end, lit up a sign that said "See you at Kings Island in '72!" Then it showed PKI's first day in operation.... totally amazing. They had full fledge marching bands with baton (sp?) and the whole works all the way down I-Street. Probably thousands of them.
  12. I thought it was like a 1600% improvement over Water Works. Got there early on Saturday, had to wait in line quite a while but still got to do everything. Spent the rest of the day shooting a TON of pics for the other site. I had fun. Can't wait until the novelty wears off so I can go and not feel like I'm in a mosh pit.
  13. Just watched it myself. Some of it looks kind of cheezy.. I think it's a simulation.
  14. Ok, this is BIG time short notice, but we have decided to have a meeting day on June 2nd! If you guys have missed our meeting days in the past, you don't know what you're missing!! We will have two meeting times, 10am and 12pm. We will meet in the same spot, under the tower. Please RSVP below! Regards, Ryan PKIC Meeting Day. June 2nd, 2004 roster: Ryan (BoddaH) Dan
  15. ^ I'm willing to say that they intend to next year. It looks like they're going to cycle their FX rides on the B-Side like how Disney cycles their releases every 7 years or whatever.
  16. Thanks for the kind words! What's your deal with the ride signs? We took them more for referance than anything. I personally like the kid in the lazy river just chillin' as my favorite. My fav of Dane's is one of his Taz ones. Ryan
  17. lol... the boring shooting that he skipped through included like 5 hours of shooting with me. I was there, just neglected from the TR!!
  18. Well, me and Dirty Steve were supposed to head up to PKI around noon, but when I called him, he didn't answer, so I called another group of friends of mine from work who I knew would be up there today. They told me that the park was basically dead, so I opted to join them instead. I arrived at the park around 1 and found them at the front gate ready to go out to the parking lot and eat. Great timing, huh? Anyway, they ate their meals and we reentered and rode SoB... then rode SoB... then rode SoB... yes, there was no line so we marathoned 3 times. So we rode a lot more rides... nothing noteworthy really.. The only thing really funny that happened was that we got this girl named Maranda to ride Delirium for her first time. As soon as the ride started, she started screaming in this horrible high note and did not let it go until the ride had come to a complete stop. That was funny. Anyway, they decided to leave around 4, but right at that time Dirty Steve called me (yeah, he finally got out of bed) so he met me up there and we took some video and pics for a future PKIC update until close. Fun day overall. Regards, Ryan
  19. I know that the PT characters were in storage as of the end of the season last year, although Jeff mentioned that they intended to auction off the characters at some time. I don't know if it has been done or not. In the FoF drum, there is a train and a half of the King Cobra as well as an old FoF train with the old OTSR. The other can be found behind the Timberwolf. To answer your question, yes there is all sorts of old stuff around the park, but there isn't exactly what you would call a boneyard that I know of. Ryan
  20. ^ I totally agree. Like I said from the start, take it for what it's worth. Especially in an area where it is, where we know that there is a creek that runs under there, they probably watch that land like crazy. Surveying could mean ANYTHING, but I just thought it was noteworthy enough to be brought to your attention.
  21. The themeing around most of the old slides was the same, although they were given all new Aussie names. The midways were entirely rethemed.
  22. If anyone ever said that PKI doesn't know what they're doing, then guess again buddy! CDBB is exactly what they told us it would be: a brilliantly themed water park-resort with all new attractions, bright colors, more shade, less concrete, 5 star amenities, and so on. I got there right at 11, when they were letting the media/gold pass holders in, from there, I immediately went to Taz. I waited in line for a good half hour for it. It was kind of interesting... When you hit the embankments, it really whips you around creating an all around fun "dark ride" experience. The funnel, as predicted, is the best part. You have about a 45 degree drop before you enter the funnel which really allows you to pick up some speed. You shoot out and fly up the opposite side. When you hit the apex of your height, you stop for an instant before you turn around and start flying down the other side. When you stop, it feels like you are sitting there forever. All in all, a totally fun experience! The racing slides were neat too. You whip that first turn, and have tons of speed even before you hit that mini hill after the enclosed area ends. The only downside to it is that the mat your ride on sticks to the top of the slide, so it is very difficult to initially begin going down the slide. I have come to find out that the matts and slides were designed this way so a patron could prevent themselves from sliding down the slide prematurely. Apparently over time the matts will ware down and it will be more reasonable. Kukaburra Bay was cool. There wasn't much to it besides a waterfall and shallow water, but I'm sure that once the water resort is less busy, it will be a really nice place for adults to hang out. Jackaroo Landing was extremely neat as well. It is a wet, fun experience for any kid or adult alike. In this complex structure, I can see a kid occupying himself for hours! A must visit! I didn't get to participate in the 5 star amenities, but I did have the opportunity to check out the menu (which we will be posting). The food is actually decently priced for a meal, and they do actually have a decent assortment of beers at a reasonable price (oh, and in case you were wondering, yes they do sell Fosters!) While spending time in the park, Dane and I took several hundred photos, which will be being uploaded throughout the night. Make sure you check back every few minutes! Dane and I would like to send a special thank you to Jill, The Crocodile Dundee's Boomerang Bay area manager for making this such an awesome experience for us. We would also like to send a special thank you out to Doug Kramer, who allowed us to take some special pictures from the top of the racing slides, which is normally closed to the public. Also thank you to Kim, and GR crew in general today. They were all always on the move today. If it weren't for such people like yourselves, PKIC wouldn't be able to bring the type of page that it is to the fans of PKI, and more importantly, PKI would not be the phenomenal park that it is today. Thank you! Regards, Ryan
