  1. I took my brother to Fearfest because it was his birthday today. The trip was relatively uneventful. I didn't do any of the haunted attractions, I was just up there to ride the rides to be honest with you. Basically the rundown is as expected. The crowds weren't too terribly bad, although they were far larger than the crowds from the first weekend of Fearfest last year. The wait for most rides would be the equivelent of a moderately busy day. I didn't do any of the haunted attractions, so you guys will have to wait for Dane's feedback, but the themeing of the park wasn't as good as it was last year. Less colored lights, less fog, fewer people jumping out at you, etc. Of course, this is the first week, so I wouldn't give up hope. Like I had mentioned before, I had the opportunity to meet one of our "fearless leaders" as Chef would call them, Dane. He's a really nice and funny guy. If we could all have attitudes like his on the forums, they'd be a much happier place to post. Oh yeah, and his girlfriend is really hot. The only downer was that I lost my cell phone on Son of Beast (so if you found it, I want it back!) I have to call this 800 number for guest relations tomorrow. I'm sorry to say but my cell phone is probaby gone forever. -Ryan
  2. what can I say? I'm helplessly vulnerable to the miniskirts...
  3. lol..that's the thing about dreams.. you never have to wait in line. I dreamt about a month ago that I got to ride X at SFMM and just walked right on to it..and we all know that's impossible. The other funny part about it is that I've never been to SFMM.. heck, the farthest west I've been is St. Louis.
  4. I second that notion. Also, I just think it's a shame that a handful of bad eggs in a large group of enthusiasts give them a bad rep.
  5. Yeah, obviously the Paramount-owned copywrites wouldn't be roaming the park as they are today. Just be glad that Six Flags didn't buy it. At least Paramount can concentrate on their handful of parks instead of Six Flags owning countless parks worldwide and cloning stuff for them.
  6. I voted for Route 666 -- new idea, good concept.. it's all there. What's the Elvira ride like? It's in FX Threatre right? Do the seats move and stuff or is it just a video?
  7. lol... how awsome would it be if they let us do that in the park? Ok, who's the closest to Seibert and can talk him into it?
  8. PKI mailing is a funny thing. Some people get some things, while other people get others... I know that there was a post on PKIU about 04 about a month ago and they quoted the letter. I got a letter that had the same info, but said everything differently.
  9. How do you know where to sit if you have never had a rough ride? Middle seats of the car bud. If you sit on top of a wheel you're going to get f'd up. Very true. Also, have you ever ridden in the back seat of FoF? Really no fun in my book.
  10. Hey, I just got an adverstisement for FearFest and BB in the mail. I guess the only really noteworthy thing would be that in the picture, it appears that the racing slides will be utilizing the towers that the speed slide used. It seems as though the 2nd level will be where the slides will begin. The lower level and upper level are not used, with the exception of a big Australian flag on the upper level. Also, the Tazmanian Typhoon looks a lot bigger than I imagined it would be. The funnel thing goes above the tree line. Of course, all of this is from a graphic on an advertisement, so take it for what it's worth.
  11. Ah, I understand your point, but I really think they had engineers take a look at the sign and decide whether or not putting the Paramount logo on it would add too much wind resistance. I mean, the sign is several feet by several feet (I can't even imagine an estimate I would make on the size). That's a lot of wind resistance right there. The Paramount logo wouldn't have made enough of a difference to make it fall. Of course, there's always the straw that broke the camel's back... we'll really never know. I totally understand the whole "cookie cutter" analogy that you made. I'm a little tworn about the Paramount thing. I like the deep pocket that they have, but naming every ride after a movie gets old. I've said a million times that they should have the feel of a traditional American theme park.
  12. Your turning into chef Anyhow, again, I think the best way to go about User Submitted Editorials is a special forum section that cannot be posted in until a moderator / administrator aproves it. lol.. I think we're arguing against eachother for the same point.
  13. lol.. don't worry, the ghosts would keep you company! If you spent the night in the tower, it wouldn't matter what season it was, it would get really cold up there at night.
  14. Thats because it is. If things like that dont sway, they would simply snap and come crashing down during any kind of winds. Absolutely correct. It is always swaying, but I don't know about the whole snapping and crashing down thing. It's made of steel, which can stretch under pressure. That's why any wind will cause it to sway, and being 300+ feet tall, there's always some wind resistance.
  15. STUCK at Best Buy? I could live there! I'm dangerous there with my dad's credit card! lol.. I'm the assh-le who has to try to explain to the hillbillies that a 36" Sony Wega won't fit into the back seat of a 2 door Cavalier.. trust me, it gets really old...
  16. I already mentioned before that it was totally great! If you guys haven't seen it yet, go take a look at it now, it's extremely interesting. Especially since it's just about a sign. http://www.pki-central.com/editorials/thepkisign.htm
  17. Well, I suppose my vision is a totally user-interactive web page. I figure if everyone contributes, first of all, it will be really interesting, second of all, if we all have reason to take a little bit of pride in the site, we won't be tempted to "junk" up the forums with meaningless garbage and insults... or of course, people could use it as an opportunity to insult eachother's grammar. I think we're beyond that now with the new beginning. PKIlvr, I totally understand your point. I thought about that, but figured that anyone who would spend the time to write an editorial must be intelligent and have the patience to actually think it through. At that, I doubt there will be an over-run of submissions. Even if there were, I'm sure Dane and Dan could read the first paragraph of one and decide whether it's even worth reading on. Also, I would suggest that the responses to the editorials be closely monitored. Since editorials in a way are intended to be controversial, you are kind of walking on thin ice as far was World War III goes.. I do realize that you guys have lives beyond this site. This is how I would handle it: if a person responds to a editorial (assuming that they have a valid argument) and put their response in a way that the author or another user might find insulting or offensive, delete it immediately, and e-mail the user. In the e-mail, cut and paste their whole response and kindly ask them to repost it in a more curtious way. I realize that it seems like a lot of work, but if perhaps you could add an extra mod who is solely in charge of that. A lot of threads which you guys have started would make awsome editorials. I remember specifically on the...other.. site, they had an interesting debate about smoking in the park. If someone actually sat down and thought about it, and looked at the issue from all sides, it could make a really insightful editorial. Of course, on that site, the thread ended with some idiot saying something ignorant like "I think all smokers should be shot to death." THAT'S the kind of thing that would have to be filtered out. Reguardless of what side you take on the issue, that statement is just ignorant. Anyway, I realize that I'm being long-winded again ::stops to catch his breath:: Sorry guys. Have a good day, Ryan
  18. Where was the footer? I remember my friend pointing one out from the queues, but I can't find it anymore. The only one I know of is on the ground under the upward helix.
  19. I have heard the QTV changes all the time. I agree with most of you that the FX Theatre movies should change yearly.
  20. Do you want the name of the guy who fixes my crystal sphere? :cowboy:
  21. Sorry to dominate this thread, but I have a lot of ideas for this board while it's in infancy... Another idea would be to have user-uploaded editorials. I mean, there are two editorials on here now, one being the one for the sign (which is excellent I might add) and the other is the TR:TR experience. The TR:TR one is written really well, but.. what can I say.. we know. This is a PKI site, so you must assume that a great majority of the people on here have had the Tomb Raider experience. An editorial doesn't necessarily have to be a typed explaination of a ride. I mean, we could sit here all day and write about how you feel when you go down the hill on The Vortex, or how cool this Beast is at night, but we know that... we've been there.. we've done that... The TR:TR article was really well written, don't get me wrong. It's descriptiveness implies that the author put a lot of thought and time into it. I would just suggest a different subject matter. Now, if you want an interesting editorial, it has to be a critical analysis of something. To be honest, to get an intellectual editorial written about PKI, it take a lot more time and thinking of the subject matter than it would with anything else.. politics for example.. I suppose the only really good example that I can think of would be old vs. new. You know, maybe PT vs. SDATHC. This would go far beyond "PT was really dirty but Scooby Doo is just cardboard cut outs." It would reach more into why were things changed? Does the good points of the new outweigh the bad points of the old? Why do they change the ride every 10 years or so? I realize that this post has been long-winded, but I know there are a LOT of intelligent people on this board, and if you are really willing to put thought into an editorial, it will be extremely interesting and a lot of fun to read. At the same time, if they do choose to let people upload editorials, they're going to get a lot of garbage and will have to really decide for themselves. I mean, it really should be no hard feelings if your editorial isn't posted. You wouldn't write it if you didn't think other people would enjoy it. At the same time, there's nothing wrong with having 10-15 editorials posted at a time. I'd recommend posting them for an amount of time, and if they're popularly read and/or replied to, then leave them up, if not then take them down. There's no reason to have the editorial section become a long-winded discussion group. (as I seem to be making this thread -- sorry) Anyway, what do you guys think? -Ryan
  22. Not true -- things are not impossible, but improbable in science, and nothing's ever perfect. The designers of the rides attempt to account for every possible scenario which they can think of in order to keep the train moving, but it's impossible to think of all of them. Apparently, the biggest problem with a train valleying is either changing the compound of the polyurethane wheels, or not correctly lubricating the axles. Now, I don't know if SOB has polyurethane wheels, or what kind of lubrication they use, so that's still up in the air. In conclusion, is it possible for SOB to valley? Yes, it definately is. Is it likely? Definately not.
  23. That could mean anything. It's a water ride, so it's hard to tell how they preserve the under water mechanics during the winter.
  24. Yeah, I'm not trying to start heat, but telling the mods what to do gets really old really quickly. There are like two or three people on here who are constantly guilty of that. Just let the men do their jobs!
  25. Yeah, so long as it's better than the skid stop things, I'll live with it. I just REALLY prefer a splash pool!
