I too remember the ivy tunnel. Also, the old queue lines for the Flight Commander/Zodiac are still next to the Launch Pad. They're black and have blue-ish lights on poles, it was part of Flight Commander's themeing. If you want to see a few of The Bat's footers, loot toward the ground during the helix of The Vortex, you'll see a few. The dolphin show wasn't in the lake, but at the International Showplace. Yes, Black Sunday was on a Sunday. Also, I'm sure you guys have seen the stairs for the Eiffel Tower, which now have gates bolted shut in front of them. I'm going to assume that they closed after "genious boy" was killed in the elevator shaft. (Although I have read accounts saying that he simply fell from the tower.) Apparently there are still caves out in the outskirts of Action Zone from the Lion Safari, although I can not back that up. I heard that from a few friend of mine which were employed there last year. ::Minor tangent:: There is a cemetary between the campground and the parking lot. I remember seeing it when I was a child and thinking that that was where the people who had died on Black Sunday were buried. (My first time ever at the park was just a few days after Black Sunday) My friend and I drove to that side of the parking lot looking for it last year, but couldn't find it. The first time I saw it was from the car, so it can't be far from the parking lot. Does anyone know if it's still there or not? I realize that it's kind of morbid to have in an amusement park, but these are human remains we're talking about.

An unofficial PKI fan day out of PKI off season?
BoddaH1994 replied to italianchef's topic in Kings Island
wooooow! No one said that you were invited! j/k Yeah, the plan is to have it between the 03 and 04 seasons, I believe. -
Sorry I couldn't meet you guys -- I couldn't be there until 7:30 and I intended to call Chef's cell phone to find out where you guys where so I could meet you, but I got a voicemail from him saying that he was leaving early. Thus, I had no way to find you guys. Sorry. Oh well, better luck next time.

Now, that's a good idea. I totally agee with you that firetrucks are not cookie-cutters. I didn't define myself clearly enough, and I appologize for that. Basically, you have a choice of several chassies (sp?) which basically put you in the direction which you are going. Now, I agree that fire trucks are extremely customized. Especially when it comes to the tools which it comes to the apparatus which it carries (which particular hose lines, where foam is, whether or not it will have an SCBA filler) -- stuff like that. It is also customized in which kind of truck it is, but that's also chosen with the chassie, I mean you can't build an aerial and a mini pumper off of the same chassie (although recently the thing to do has been to build mini pumpers on F350s) But yeah, they take forever to build. We've been working on our heavy rescue truck for about a year now. I wasn't saying that it was particularly simpler, but it is on a differnt plain than a rollercoaster.

I won't be there until 7:30, will youg guys be there that late?

Here's the problem from an engineering student's perspective: Rollercoasters are mathmatically REALLY difficult to do. I mean, it's constant calculatons for every little turn, loop, bend, etc. You have to calculate wind resitance, the momentum, structural integrity, etc. I mean, it takes an extremely bright person with a decent mathimatical backround to do something like that. Now, how many people with those kinds of credentials? Not many, and those that do are already designing buildings, bridges, and perhaps even rollercoasters. Now, if they had a competition for designing a coaster, everyone's design would have a hill that's 515' tall and have 26 inversions. Everyone would inherently want to design something massive. There's no way the average person would have any idea as to how to be able do the proper calculations to find out what is reasonable and what isn't. Now, they could have ideas for rides, and the pofessionals could modify them, but it's just not the same. You might as well just let the professionals do their jobs. Oh, and fyrfyter, I totally understand what you were getting at with the firetruck thing, but they're actually a lot simpler to construct that you would think. My cheif owns Summit Fire Apparatus (ever heard of it?) and they build and refurbish fire trucks. More or less what happens is that you choose the most basic things like the size of the engine, length of the truck, etc and that limits your options, and then for every other option you choose, it limits your other options a little more until you have a finished plan. I guess you can equate the problem-solving and decision making with building a rollercoaster, but a rollercoaster involves many more calculations, while a fire truck is a lot more of a cookie-cutter. -Ryan

hmmm... interesting point. I had always heard TG had the longest, but never thought of WWC. That's almost like a coin toss.

I did too. I also liked the plug on Chefs book in it. Where did you see a plug on Chef's book? I just beat the thing and didn't see it. I liked it though, it was fun. Jeff said that he was aware that there would be a game about him coming out, but has anyone thought to actually send it to him yet?

so, was the picture from another park's commercial?

^ Alexandria is just south of the river. Say if you were coming from Lexington and heading toward PKI, once you hit downtown and went toward I71, you'd take 471 to 275. If you decide to go, I can get you more detailed directions.

An unofficial PKI fan day out of PKI off season?
BoddaH1994 replied to italianchef's topic in Kings Island
Sounds great Chef! The only problem would be that most people seen to live somewhere between Mason and Dayton, so it would be a long drive. But hey, living 20 mins from you, I'm all for it. The plan sounds good as far as the resteraunt goes, but we'll have to get people to commit to bringing their videos. I would recommend doing it in January which is the heart of the off-season blues. -
I don't know if you were there to see it last year or not, but they had eerie lights up in the Eiffel Tower with white sheets covering the observation deck.. it was awsome. And yes, they covered it in black lights last year too. I think it looked better last year.
-
Boy do they film stuff in advance. Make sure you let us know when it shows. For those of you who weren't there, you'll see the BoddaH and the infamous Italian Chef toward the middle of the last row of the ride.

I agree. 02 was much better. It wasn't so much the haunted houses and stuff because to be honest with you, I could care less, but the atmosphere was a lot more fun last year. Oh well, at least we can go up there and ride rides. I can back up what Dane said about the fog. It was my brother's first FearFest and I told him about how you couldn't see ten feet in front of you on "Coney Maul" and we were both really disappointed. I did ride Delirium toward the end of the night and noticed that there was a fine haze over "Coney Maul" that went as high as The Racers' first drop, so that was pretty cool. Oh well.. it was free.

SOB puked it up! I got my phone back in the mail today! yay!

This brings up an interesting question. Does the park actually employ Paramedics on the First Aid staff, since they are the only ones who trained/certified to deliver newborns, if something advanced were to occur? I know they employ EMTs, which aren't quite as qualified as paramedics, but should be able to help a woman in labor well enough to get her to the hospital. So Chef, you have nothing to fear.** **What an honor it would be to be born in the park.

I'm not a big fan of their haunted house because they're cheezy and stupid, but I do like being able to ride so late at night. Saturday, I got there around 8:00 and the lines were too long to do pretty much anything. Later in the night it wasn't too bad. I got to marathon Face/Off like 4 times right at close.. that usually has a pretty long line.
-
I had it in my cargo pocket. Side note: I have my service suspended as of now, but should be getting a new one in the mail Wensday or so. So if you are one of the few people on here who have my number, you can call it after that.

Should Boomerang Bay serve Auzzie food & Beer?
BoddaH1994 replied to italianchef's topic in Kings Island
hmmm... I wonder if Fosters is really Australian for beer... -
lol... yep, it bumps me around for 2 seasons and everything is fine, but I finally get a smoothe ride and it eats my cell phone... oh yeah, I agree, it has gotten better... Someone had said before that it tends to give smoother rides in colder weather, that could be self-evident.
-
Nah, they'd go ahead and scare them to death. j/k of course they would. I was at a haunted house and a friend of mine had a seizure several years ago. It was funny to see Satan and the Grim Reiper help her up.
-
My phone probably went to phone heaven, blame SOB for that.
-
lol...my hair is barely manageable and is in no way cool... he has to be being sarcastic... but hey, I look up to his ability to rope chicks..
-
lol.. my hair? I have a million flaws that you could poke fun at, but you choose my hair?

The things listed above were freak accidents and had nothing to do with the topic of enthusiast groups being known as rule breakers. Secondly, if you're a grown adult and your mom tells you not to touch the stove because it's hot and you do it anyway, you still deserve to get burnt. We're not desensitizing anything by the notion. It's kind of like "live by the gun, die by the gun" it equates to "if you choose to be an idiot, you're going to die doing something stupid." I understand your point that when someone dies on a ride it's an unfortunate thing and it affects many more people than the one who lost their lives. The point really is that if someone is going to do something stupid, you can't entrirely be sympathetic towards the individual. The incidents listed above are the exception. Some people loose their lives because of odd circumstances or freak accidents. But in any of the cases which you have listed above, was anyone doing anything out of the ordinary? There have been unfortunate incidents in the amusement industry, but when it all comes down, just live by this: If you play with fire, you might get burned; if you play with knives, you might get cut; if you stand up on a rollercoaster, you may fall to your death! -Ryan
