Longest You've Been Stuck On A Ride & What Ride
Browntggrr replied to WooferBearATL's topic in KI Polls
You are right. It always has been a big deal. I am comparing what policies were like in 2000 to what they are today. Things were more laid back in 2000. For instance, it has always been illegal to bring in firearms or weapons into KI. But now with the metal detectors, there is more focus on it. -

Luck? Heck, I was lucky I didn't do the dirty in my Boba Fett underoos! Honestly though, it seems that back in 2000, things like that were not that big of a deal compared to today's policies. -
Longest You've Been Stuck On A Ride & What Ride

In the mid to late 80's, I was stuck on Demon Drop, first ride of the day, for about an hour with a friend. It was really no big deal, except for the girl screaming bloody murder practically the whole time. I honestly thought (and wished) she was going to knock herself out from screaming so hard. And talk about customer service, we both received a $50 voucher for Bay Harbor (which my father conveniently used for a lobster tail), as well as a free one day pass. And while I wasn't stuck, this is a rather funny story. I went to CP for the opening day for MF. It was not a cold day, but a cool one, so jeans and jackets were ideal. I also knew that the line was going to be hours upon hours long, so being the "cool" guy I was at the time, I brought a six pack of beer in the park hidden in my jacket. About 5 beers, and 3.5 hours of waiting (only 2 trains operating), I realized on how much of an idiot I was. Yeah, no bathroom. So now here I am starting to do the pee pee dance going up the ramp. Once I finally got on the ride, it could not go fast enough for me. I did make it to the restrooms next to the Red Garter Saloon, and boy, that was the cleanest restroom I have ever been in! Have you ever passed a kidney stone? Yeah, it was that relieving. -
Perhaps she had ulterior motives?!?

They are for spare parts.

If you believe that Paramount did a great job, you should have seen the park in the early/ mid 80's. That is when the park was in it's heyday. It really is too bad that many here did not know KI other than under Paramount's operation. In the almost 13 months that CF has owned the park, there has been great strides, as well as some well known setbacks. The world was not built in a day, and the park is not going to transform overnight. The food prices are high, but it was just yesterday that I read on another site that HolidayWorld has a 3 piece chicken finger meal for $6.00. not exactly a cheap meal. But nothing is anymore. I have brought my family to the Cleveland Zoo, a Cleveland Indians game, Pittsburgh Zoo, and I went to Put-in-Bay with a bachelor party 2 weekends ago, and guess what. They all had high food prices. And in particular, the food at the zoos SUCKED! But for each trip, I brought my trusty cooler. (And as an FYI, I did purchase a nacho & large soda at Jacobs field- $7.50) The money pit known as SoB certainly threw CF a left hook that they were not expecting. Imagine what the company could have done with all that money elsewhere in the park instead of pouring into a ride that has had a terrible history since day one. But on the plus side, it's currently running. Next week may be a different story if SoB is operating, but CF certainly did not give up on the ride. They did what they had to do. The jury is still out if the effort was worth it. Imagine what Paramount would have done with SoB given the same incident. I really don't think the outcome would have been the same. The entire park has needed a good scrub down, and a new paint job. Again, post Paramount years, that is alot of scrubbing & paint in a one year span. After Paramount announced their intentions for selling, many things went to ****. CF spent over a billion dollars to purchase the parks. They do not have an open check book to spend money left and right for little things. The park will look a whole lot different in '08, much like it looked different this past spring. CF has a long way to go to improve the park, but what they have done so far is more than most of us imagined a year ago.

^ Check the link.

^ Yup. The same engineers that were going to do the coaster on Stratoshere in Vegas!

I really would not say that those are upgrades, but it is certainly some maintenance on the themeing. And at this point, any maintenance done is a step in the right direction!

The removal is for addition to the "Congo" area of the park. http://bgtguide.com/project2008/ -

Next to IJ. Right where the Eiffel Tower now sits. The current elevators are not getting much use (it IS an older ride), so CF has decided to do the less expensive route of dismantling the tower and install TTD. The launch will be over part of the fountain. I can't wait! The view at the top will go from decent to excellent!

2007 Theme Park magazine poll results
Browntggrr replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Those are the 2006 results, yet released in May of 2007. -
The Awards Go To ... SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2007 – Cedar Point amusement park/resort was recently named “America’s Favorite Amusement Park” by the readers of Theme Parks Magazine. This is the third year in a row that Cedar Point has been voted the No. 1 amusement park in America in the magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Cedar Point also placed three coasters in the Top 4 of the “Top Steel Roller Coasters” category. Millennium Force, standing at 310 feet tall with speeds of 93 mph, was rated No. 1 for the third straight year, while the Top Thrill Dragster came in No. 2 and perennial favorite, Magnum XL-200, captured the fourth position. The park’s Mean Streak roller coaster made the Top 10 in the wooden roller coasters poll. The Roller Coaster Capital of the World also took home top honors in the “Favorite Park for Thrills” and “Best Value” for the third year in a row. Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends won a Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Seasonal Event” for the second consecutive year. In addition, the amusement park/resort was rated highly in the following categories: “Best Food”; “Cleanest Park”; and “Most Beautiful Park.” “We are very pleased with the results of the poll,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “All of us at Cedar Point are not only proud of our roller coasters, but the overall guest experience we provide. Our goal is to make everyone’s visit to the park the best it can be.” Theme Parks Magazine, based in Independence, Mo., is dedicated to helping its readers discover America’s theme parks. With park guests in mind, Theme Parks Magazine features eye-catching photos, in-depth park guides, feature stories and attraction profiles from a wide array of amusement destinations across the country. In addition to the Theme Parks Magazine poll, Cedar Point has also been featured as an “exceptional destination” in Rand McNally’s Midwest Getaway Guide. The amusement park/resort is highlighted as a “can’t miss” stop in the new travel guide, which blends travel information and recommended stops with maps for vacationers. The Midwest Getaway Guide features maps of popular attractions in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin and is now available for purchase. Earlier this year, Cedar Point’s Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200 roller coasters were selected as the two “Best Steel Roller Coasters” by the National Amusement Park Historical Association’s (NAPHA) 21st Amusement Parks and Attractions Survey. It is the oldest poll of its kind. For more than 10 years, these two coasters have either held or shared the top spot with each other. From 1995-2001, Magnum was the survey’s No. 1 steel coaster. Millennium Force was first in 2003, 2005 and 2006. The coasters shared first place in 2002 and 2004. But change may be on the horizon. Cedar Point’s new Maverick roller coaster is receiving rave reviews from riders. With a 95-degree first-hill drop, the first-of-its-kind Twisted Horseshoe Roll and a 400-foot-long tunnel, the $21 million steel roller coaster has already become a guest favorite. In addition to its honors for Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200, NAPHA voters also ranked Cedar Point fourth in the ”Favorite Traditional Amusement Park” category. Founded in 1978, NAPHA is an international enthusiasts’ organization interested in preserving and documenting the heritage of the amusement park industry, past, present and future. Cedar Point will be open daily through Monday, Sept. 3. The park will reopen for a Bonus Weekend Sept. 7-9 and for its annual HalloWeekends event on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 14-16, 21-23, 28-30, Oct. 5-7, 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28, 2007. For more information about Cedar Point, log onto cedarpoint.com or call the park’s general information line at 419.627.2350. OK, I love going to Cedar Point. But not to this point. TTD & Magnum in the Top 5? Mean Streak in the top 10? Highly ranked for best Food, cleanest park? Best value? Where did they take this poll? At the parking tolls after the causeway? This is a terrific example of how these polls are full of crap!

^ Quite honestly, I was more upset seeing KCKC getting torn down. That was a great family ride.
-
SHHH! I don't know how you found out, but don't let anyone else know! The Lake Erie saltwater keeps messing up the hydraulic launch motor.
-
One of the most irritating things is when you are trying to do somehitng and all you hear is the constant buzzing from a bug that just won't leave you alone. *SWAT*

^ From a weird sort of way, that is great customer service!

Throwing a punch? Now that is really taking unhappiness to a level which is does not need to go to.

I'm going to take a wild stab and say that TR;TR will be re-themed. It really makes the most sense.

SFKK: Girl Injured in Accident
Browntggrr replied to joecoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It comes down to is the glass half full, or half empty? As terrible as this story is, what is done is done. There is no going back. There will come a time when this girl will be able to live a rather normal life for a person who has lost both of their feet. It will be a long time, and a difficult battle, but she does have the opportunity to get there with todays medical technologies and advancments. There was recently a great feel-good story on HBO's Real Sports about a young man that lost a leg, but now can run, and win, 100 meter races. http://www.hbo.com/realsports/stories/2007...ode.122.s3.html What this young girl needs right now is a ton of support from family members as well as the medical community. I just truely hope that she never hears the words: "Well that would be great to do, but we just don't have the money." -
Ok, I can see your point. But why try and sell a ride for scrap metal on a "rides for sale" website. Some interesting tidbits: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...p;hl=King+Cobra Posted September 19, 2002. Here is the link, though of course the site says that the page can no longer be found. From: aeilerman Date: Thu Sep 19, 2002 11:59 pm Subject: King Cobra For Sale aeilerman Offline I have found the web-site that is selling the King Cobra from PKI. here is the link http://www.italintl.com/coaster/index.htm and another: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...p;hl=King+Cobra I'm sure there are many scrap metal buyers in the Cincy area, unless the metal was that bad they would not even touch it as well.
