Here we go again with The Vortex & Top Gun are being removed rumors again. Neither ride is going anywhere, anytime soon. There are many more rides in the park that would come down before TG or Vortex; but don't confuse my comment with thinking that rides should come down. Both rides have a rather good uptime percentage. And both rides have their specific place in the park. IMO, it really sucks when any park feels the need to take a ride down. Sure, the parks have excellent reasons for making the decision for the ride removal, but I just really hate not only to see a good ride come down, but all the memories that the ride has given over the years get bulldozed over. Yeah call me a sentimental fool...

I can agree with taking a ride out for high maintenance/ operation costs, and to a lesser degree, low ridership. It makes sense. Why put money into a ride that guests don't want to be on? (insert SoB joke here) I can't see on how thrilling a ride is has anything to do with their removal. There are many ride that are just plain fun, that have no thrills at all (i.e. bumper cars, pirate ships, swings etc.)
-
What does the thrill of an attraction have to do with it being removed or not?
-
Well if you want to take that avenue, and since most of the population of the planet Earth dislikes SoB... If you like SoB keep it to yourself, most people find SoB as a terrible ride.
-
This will probably be the last time I suggest that a ride is named after a movie. Along the lines if Universal purchased the park: The Money Pit. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091541/

From a ride operation, "is it running, or isn't it and why", yeah you are correct. But even mentioning that the ride is having technical difficulties is still a little information that can easily be followed by requests. But as I am looking at: "What is the lesser of two evils." 1) Giving no indication as to why a policy has changed, thus leaving the guest confused and upset. -or- 2) Mentioning that there was an incident at another park, and the height requirement has been changed as a safety precaution. Not mentioning anything and just telling the guest nothing is rather poor customer service. Much like when a guest will go to customer service with a complaint, and the representative will not even try and smooth the situation over by apologizing for the guests' trouble.
-
Obviously going into that much detail is absured. Nobody wants to hear about a fatality. But just saying that there was an incident at another park and a determination was made to increase the height limit as a safety precaution would be fine. Again a little information.
-
Why would you want to tape something like that? Ok, someone had an accident. But taping it? That is just plain nasty. I have never got sick on a ride, but one time, it was close. In not so many words; my wife will go on Chaos, while I sip a frosty beverage from the park bench. The ride looks much better from there.

^ But as a parent, there are some things that even I question. For example, the Scrambler at Waldameer here in Erie, PA. In the summer of 2005, both of my kids could get on the ride with an adult. But this summer, neither can no matter what. Ok, obviously the height requirment changed. And I'm sure it was for a good reason. But let the patrons of the park understand the changes by putting up a posting, or let the ride operators know the reasons to pass along the information to the guest. Unfortunately, some parents will let their emotions take over when their child wants to ride something they had previously been on, and now can't. The look on a disappointed child's face is heartbreaking. Sometimes a little information can go a long way.

I would expect drastic changes to the CF season passes for '08. The differences between each CF park, as well as the perks you would get from park to park was diffucult to understand (i.e. Gold pass vs. Joe Cool etc.) Let's hope for some uniformity.

Forget "any longer". When was the reference to Beast appropriate at all? The ride known as SoB is an insult to a ride that put KI on the map. It really is too bad that such a great legacy has been tainted.
-
Given that... That means the SkyScreamer in Marineland, is the tallest drop ride at 450' (including the 150' hill it is on), over shadowing Drop Zone at KI which is only 315'. S; KC loop is only 114'. As seen is this pic: http://www.coastergallery.com/2001/FT28.html. The total height of the coaster is only 168', but the figures are skewed due to the cliff the lift hill is on.

^ But I'm not going to be here an extra week just to make it more difficult for the next guy. And quite honestly, USA Today doesn't give two craps that I am here in the first place. And you are right, it wasn't my time being wasted. But stunts like this not only promote more ignorant stunts in the future, but also opinions as well. Do something constructive, and I would be the first guy to applaud him. Nothing more than a media hound.
-
Honestly, these stunts are stupid. If he was riding for charity, then fine, at least there is some sort of benefit. But just riding for a world record? What a waste of time. Instead of sitting on your a$$ on a ride, why not volunteer at the local community shelter for 17 consecutive days. Now that is an accomplishment.
-
Ah, yes. The good old days with the old queue filled, and the line still extended to the Eiffel Tower.

Jerky? Is that what you call it? It falls more into the catagory of Shaken Rider Syndrome. http://www.dontshake.com/

The figures given are the actual stats for the loop itself. Not the height from the ground to the top of the loop.
-
^ A big ugly building should be in the back of the park, not the front.

Conneaut Lake Status
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is a sad story. But if the community is not willing to try and save the park by being patrons, why give more money to it? http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/articl...8140362/-1/NEWS CLP board gets help from county BY JIM MARTIN jim.martin@timesnews.com [more details] Published: August 14. 2007 6:00AM MEADVILLE -- The Blue Streak is parked in its station. The carved wooden horses of the merry-go-round await riders in the dim light of the carousel. But even now -- with most of the publicly owned facility shut down for the summer -- Conneaut Lake Park is racking up bills to the tune of about $1,000 a day. Members of the park's newly appointed board of directors, along with the park-loving public, got a taste of hope Aug. 3 when park managers reopened the Beach Club. The news brought a line of people waiting to buy french fries, and it brought renewed hopes that revenue might begin to trickle in that would allow for the park to resume full operation. But despite a good first couple of weeks, the revenue is a comparative trickle, the flow of invoices a gusher. Board members Jim Collins and Carol West appeared Monday before the Crawford County Redevelopment Authority to ask for $35,000 to help pay some bills, including a $10,000 insurance payment and about $8,000 on a $236,000 electric bill. Payment is needed this week to ensure the lights stay on at the Beach Club and that the park has the liability insurance it needs to operate. After 90 minutes of questions by the redevelopment board, the park board members walked out with a check for $25,000 and some specific instructions on how to spend it. Mark Nickerson of the Redevelopment Authority joined the unanimous 3-0 vote to grant the park $25,000. But like fellow board members Joe Shrader and C.J. Tisi, he wanted to be certain it would do some good. "I'm very supportive of the park," Nickerson said. "But I'm trying to get some certainty that the money won't go away without some result." No one was even hinting that Conneaut Lake Park's board would intentionally waste the money. It was easy to see, however, that the money could get lost in the shuffle at a park with $2.7 million in unpaid bills. Collins, an accountant, said he's also concerned about the matter of taxes. The park still hasn't filed returns for 2005 or 2006. Despite all those challenges, both West and Collins still see potential and said they're eager to see the park adopt a workable business plan that will put the operation back on track. In the meantime, though, the park continues to face stacks of bills equal to about $1,000 a day, simply to keep the lights on and a handful of employees on the job. West said the park board's next goal is to reopen Hotel Conneaut in time to honor more than 200 reservations that have been made. That could also help the park generate the money it needs to survive another winter. JIM MARTIN can be reached at (814) 724-6397, 870-1668 or by e-mail. Crawford County Planning Director Jack Lynch said he credits the group with both vision and a realistic approach to the problems they face. "This group realizes they are up against it," he said. "It's hard to write a poem when you're being chased up a hill by dogs." JIM MARTIN can be reached at (814) 724-6397, 870-1668 or by e-mail. -
