You are going to get objective opinions at TPR. Some good, some bad. What I like though is when they don't like something, they give reasons, not your typical, "I don't like the ride, and that's it." But most all agree that there are no better night rides than Beast.

^ Those would be a small handful of lawsuits that are legitimate. Now the guy who was struck by lightning in the parking lot.....

Golden Ticket Awards 2007
Browntggrr replied to Dvo's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ But not nearly as bad as the wooden coaster poll that ranked Mean Streak in the top 10 a couple years ago. Yet, CP decided to actually put up a large banner stating this ranking. After seeing where they put MS, I completely dismissed the poll. I actually forgot which one it was. -
And what increases insurance costs? Lawsuits. It is just a big, ugly wheel that keeps going in circles. The same applies to medical costs. When a patient sues the doctor for an infected hangnail, it is money out of the doctor's pocket to his insurance company, which increases his malpractice insurance, which increases our medical costs. Now if those who are guilty of filing frivoulus lawsuits could be held responsible for all the court costs and defense attorney costs, then, and only then, will you see costs go down.

Golden Ticket Awards 2007

^ Voters are also subscribers to Amusment Today as well. How can the magazine know if their subscribers are "well traveled" or not? The Golden Ticket Awards are just as bad as Tainted Bowl XL. (for those non-Cheaters fans out there!) -
Excellent point of showing exactly what is wrong with today's "sue happy" society. It is things like that that increase height limits on rides that are 15+ years old with perfect safety records. Or shortening/ adding seatbelts on rides that are virtually impossible of getting out of the restraints to begin with. Only an attorney looking for a payday would try and spin what is considered a halloween prop into an insult of guests that were injured as result of a piece of the coaster framing breaking as opposed to the train itself, which is exactly what the prop is.

No. No you can't. People on acid dream they can fly. But in reality, they just go splat.

^ Let's just take last year for example. CP is in the process of building Maverick. Promoting it full tilt. But giving nothing away. CF is rather secretive about their new rides. Samething with Firehawk. Do you honestly think that a promotional video of KI's new ride would actually be on You Tube before the ride is announced? Not to mention, at the beginning of the video, the title reads "Cedar Fair's Kings Island". I have never heard anyone use the "Cedar Fair" with "Kings Island".

VF Xtreme Swing Closed After Fire
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ Quite possibly it could have been a fire that was put out numerous times and then re-ignited. But my question is, why did they not kill power to the area after the fire started to begin with? The park was not open, so shutting the power down would have minimal effect in the park. -
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/business_...-gardens-a.html Apparently this is going to be some type of tiger/ "big cat" exhibit based on the definition of "Jungala". http://catzinc.org.nz/profiles/jungala/profile.htm Or, I could be completely way off base, and have it actually be a new coaster with a "big cat" theme to it. (but they already have one of those.... )

But the moose out front should have told them....

I would hate for anyone to call you a rumor monger, so if you could come up with details and a legitimate source (other than Lemon Chill guy, Dippin' Dots guy, or Cabana Lady), it would seriously help out.

Golden Ticket Awards 2007
Browntggrr replied to Dvo's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Which is exactly why I question the awards. What is considered a "well traveled" fan? Any JoeSchmo on the street can say they are well traveled, but have actually never been out of the Eastern Time Zone. What are the qualifications to vote in the US? You must be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file the Voter Registration Form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote); live at your present address at least 30 days before an election; not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction; and not claim the right to vote elsewhere. But there are also voting booths that allow you to vote either Democrat or Republican across the bored without even looking at names or qualifications. Does that make me qualified to vote for our next President? Given that criteria, sure. But it certainly leaves much to be desired. So sure, I question what Amusement Today considers a "well traveled" fan. Did they find these fans outside the gates to CP, or did they take the same exact amount of people from the East coast to the West coast? Now if you are talking about voting for a Hall of Fame entry for football or baseball, the sports writers across the country vote who is in and who is out. Now that is a excellent example of being a qualified voter. They are voting on something that is their profession. What I consider a "overall experience" is the moment I pay for parking (or don't), to the time I leave. How much did I spend? Were my kids bored? Was the crew energetic or lathargic? Was the park soft on the eyes, or leave much to be desired? Was it clean? Are the amenities catered to families? How long are the lines/ were the crews efficient? Was I able to get a free water without hassle? Did I wait in line for food and how was it? What are the smoking policies and are they enforced? Was security visible? Could I find a nice shady spot to relax? Oh yeah, were the rides thrilling, or did I get bored during the day? Did I have fun? -
You forgot: Drachen Fire X Steel Dragon 2000 Superman; The Escape Batman & Robin; Chiller RWB and there are probably about 100 more...

^ If you are getting sick to your stomach from being on rides, sure take Dramamine. But "graying out" has nothing to do with motion sickness.

It better not be from dehydration with all the "small items" rules that seem to change not only from day to day but from shift to shift.

Golden Ticket Awards 2007
Browntggrr replied to Dvo's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ While those parks do deserve applause, it makes me wonder why other parks like Hershey, Kennywood, or even my home park of Waldameer are often overlooked. Is it just because they are smaller parks? (I thought size doesn't matter. ) Which is why I question the validity of the awards. Sure, the big names are there. But don't many of us here question admission prices, concession prices, parking etc. KICentral is a small community. But we bring up great conversation points, mainly about KI, but about other parks as well. And the hot topics this year have been about food pricing, admissions etc. Not only about KI, but CP and Disney. And none of those parks are exactly inexpensive. Now CP is a great park, and I truely love it there. But how can a park that has such high food prices get #1 again? Sure if they had the quality of food like BGE, I could see why the cost would be high, but the comparisons are not even close. So was the #1 park award given out for overall park experiance, or was it given out because they have 17 coasters, with the most in the top 15? -
Golden Ticket Awards 2007
Browntggrr replied to Dvo's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ It seems that with the release of the Golden Tickets each year, the same parks/ rides/ attractions keep winning, or the awards that actually do change but not by much. It has become such a bore, I seriously question the validity of the awards anymore. But I suppose to the GP, what they don't know won't hurt them. -
Actually it was the computerized "dummy" that did tip them off in the end. The forces that were exerted in the tests were too much for the human body. Now computer programs did also play a part, but they went ahead with the heartline anyway because Intamin believed they could reduce the speed going through the tunnel, which in turn would exert less forces on the riders. Yet when they did this, it would cause valleying in the second half of the ride. Basically it became a trial and error test. Solve one problem & create another.

Yes there was an accident on SoB. But the issue has since been fixed. You make it sound like people died on SoB. Now if they would have used an old FC car, or put skeletons in the Beer Garden pond, now THAT would be in bad taste. Not to mention, how many people (besides us geeks ) are actually going to even know (or care) that those are SoB's old cars?

So if they removed TG, and replaced it with something else; what gives you the notion that it would not take just as long to walk back to the new ride? Haven't we been through this a thousand times already? http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=Top+Gun http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=Top+Gun http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=Top+Gun http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=Top+Gun First it's Vortex, then TG, then AE, yadda, yadda, yadda. Addition through subtraction $UCKS! Now we all know that the member known as RumorSmasher is nothing more than a troll. DON'T FEED THE TROLLS! His sources are nothing more than conversations that he has with himself. The only reason KI, or any other park is going to remove a ride is purely from a cost standpoint (unless you are complete idiots like Paramount i.e. Eagles, FoF, 'tiques etc.). And as of right now TG is not at the point of costing more than it's worth. Not to mention many of the other reasons like: what else would go back there?, why put something else back there?, why remove a great starter coaster? etc.

What is Kings Island REALLY going to get?
Browntggrr replied to familyguyfun1's topic in Coming Attractions
CP does quite well with Bay Harbor Inn. Which is the same type of restaurant KI has needed since IR closed. So well in fact that it actually stays open year round with the exception on Sundays and Holidays. Which is saying something given the metropolis that is known as Sandusky, OH. There is no reason to think that CF would not be able to re-create the same type of atmosphere at KI. Of coarse, minus the whole year round idea. Now for the 2008 attraction, my money is still on a re-themed TR.
