The Gold pass perks are finally up!
fan of beast replied to flightoffear4thtrain's topic in Kings Island
i see the speed lanes are a waste. you should at least have one major coaster. junklot is a kiddie coaster. -
i remember the 2 hr wait sign when The Beast opened in '79. it's hard to believe i was in high school then. i don't remember seeing any signs in recent times.

i have at times been totally shocked by the dress of some inside KI. while i would never allow my children out of the house with some of the shirts i have seen, it is a freedom of speech issue. my thought is, where were their parents when they bought or wore the shirt out of the house. unfortunately, we are raising a culture that takes their freedoms too far without concern for others. just because you have the "right" to do something doesn't make it right. more appalling is the number of adults you see wearing the same type of dress.

we were on The Beast for double ride tuesdays. as we were leaving the station for our second run, the ride op announced "welcome the the world's longest water ride". we never even noticed that it had started to rain extremely hard. that rain stung like crazy. don't remember if the op was Gordon or not. once while in line for recaR. i was asking a young girl who was in the rear of the train if she was in the front of the train or the rear of the train. she said she was in the rear. i said from the direction you're facing, it looks like you're in the front of the train, are you sure. she was obviously puzzled. i asked if her friends in the other seat were in front of her or behind her. she was now totally confused. later that day, i was in the back seat of viking fury. i hear this same young lady yelling at me. she asked if i was in the front of the boat or the back of the boat. she got the best of me that day.

i totally agree with your statement. we cannot allow safety devices to be ignored for the sake of an award. i would hope an organization like ace would take a fresh look at the message they're sending.

Gordon Bombay goes to historical Philadelphia
fan of beast replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Trip Reports
great report. i have been to philly's historical section twice. it is something that all should see to understand the building of our nation. my favorite was the first church of christ. it's about 3 blocks down from independence hall. it's one of the oldest churches in america. i have never had a problem in columbus airport. i always set off the metal detector with my hip. they always offer the oppurtunity to have the screening done in private. philadelphia airport is usually a total nightmare, especially in the terminal for southwest. i don't think i ever came thru there without some sort of delay. i flew southwest from columbus to philly and back over 20 times just last year. i just got back from there thurs. night. the morning flights are the best. the evening flights normally end up sitting on the runway in line for around an hour before take-off. -
I don't know. the KI parking lot would make a huge rv lot with a better location than rt 4

sounds like a fun little trip. at this point, any coaster would help with the withdrawals. i have a need for SOB.

i work for a contractor to steel mills. i am in the scarfing division which uses a scarfing robot to condition steel slabs before they are rolled into coils. this improves the quality of the steel, is a lot safer, and is more environmentally friendly. for years this was done with a hand torch. the hockey arena was built by us steel and is called the us steel arena. the europeans are passionate about all sports, especially hockey and soccer. they throw a lot of support behind the local women's basketball team, also. i should be back in the states in time for roller coaster season. we have a project going in russia. i don't know yet if i'm going to be on that team. next on the plate is detroit(not far from CP). i spent all last summer at philly. never made it to dorney. yes, gordon, that girl was cute. i now know where all those models you see in american magazines come from. Kosice is only about 80 kilometers from Ukraine. it is south of poland and the czech republic. west of ukraine. north of hungary. east of austria. i hope i answered all the questions from the previous posts.

i looked up the difference. it would be a trebuchet.

st. elizabeth's cathedral main street castle at krasna horka ruins at terniany slanec ruins remnants of a bygone era apartments s****ka castle narrow streets hc kosice hockey that had to hurt plaque how did that get in there? BODDA requested a trip report, so here we go. my job sent me to slovakia to help in the construction of a new jobsite at us steel. slovakia is a beautiful country with some of the nicest and hardest working people you will ever find. this area was settled around the 5th century. the city of kosice has buildings that are 2-3 times as old as the usa. the flight takes about 16 hours unless you have an ordeal like my 2nd trip over. after delays at cvg caused me to miss my international flight to vienna, they got me rerouted to o'hare to catch a plane to munich. the chicago flight was delayed. i arrived in munich 10 minutes late for my connection to vienna. i had to sit in the airport for 8 hours. they rerouted me again. this time to prague. when i landed in prague, i had 10 minutes to get thru passport control and to my gate. they were boarding the plane as i got there. finally landed in kosice after 29 hours. on days off, i went castle hunting. attached are some pics of the castles i visited. only one is intact. the castle at krasna horka was built in the 13th century. parts were rebuilt after a fire in the 16th century. this castle was inhabited until the 1940's. it then became a national museum. the others are ruins with just a few pieces still standing. the castle at s****ka is rumored to be where they filmed parts of braveheart. i have not confirmed that. a lot of the streets in the downtown areas are off limits to cars. the people here walk or take the buses and trolleys. i did more walking here than a full day at KI. when they say that america is the most obese nation in the world they aren't kidding. i felt like an elephant walking around. food here is very inexpensive. everything else is expensive. a flat here will cost about $400,000. most people live in apartments left over from the communist regimes. there are apartment buildings as far as you can see. you only see houses in the small towns outside the main city. the cars here are all stick shift subcompacts. the main highways have no speed limits but, these cars won't go much over 80 mph. i go back here in a couple of weeks. i have already spent 8 weeks there. if they had roller coasters, i would move there. one of the pics shows a plaque on the front of the jewish synagogue. i am still trying to find its meaning. i believe it is honoring the jews that were killed during the holocaust. it is a very strange looking plaque. i was invited to speak to the students at the english language school. this was an experience i'll never forget. one of the ladies there asked if i could sneak her an american husband in my suitcase. hey gordon, are you ready to take a ride?

thanks, gordon. had a great holiday. got home on friday. going back after new years. slovakia is a wonderful country. if you ever get a chance to go, do not turn it down. there are photo ops on every step. when i look out the window of my bedroom, i'm looking at st. elizabeth's cathedral. it is 800 yrs. old this year. it's amazing to think that a lot of buildings there are 2-3 times older than the USA.

catching both trains in the same pic was a total fluke. i couldn't do it again if i tried.
-
1st time i've tried posting a pic.

i bet a lot of people at cw and kd would go thru the roof if they lost their Coke.

School = But...im on a 7 week break and working at a job i enjoy and back in Cincinnati. i'm home for 2 weeks then headed back to slovakia. got some great pics. still no coasters in slovakia
-
hey gordon, how's school? i'm back. did you catch the comment when they were looking at the model? the guy said you can't build a coaster over 200 ft. high on level ground. wonder what he would think today?

Official Poll:What was your favorite part of Halloween Haunt 2007?
fan of beast replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KI Polls
why is there not a "none of the above" in your polls -
SOB was not near as rough as The Beast this summer. i know this'll fire gordon up, but SOB will be my fave till The Beast gets some serious work done. p.s. there are no roller coasters in slovakia. i can't wait to get back to the states.

Apparently you never ride RACER? That is my favourite coaster in the park. No matter how many times i ride it, it still packs a punch. i ride The Racer quite often. it's getting very tempermental. one ride can be ok, you can get right back on and get your butt kicked.
-
i happen to like SOB. right now it's the smoothest woodie in the park.
