  1. Nothing has changed. You can still use your ID to visit KI. You just go through the turnstyles at the front gate instead of the employee entrance.
  2. When you purchase your passes, they will have him stand against a wall that has the height marked off. If he is under 48 inches, they will be charged as a junior. This applys when buying regular admission tickets also. Any questions please call the park for details. Also check at www.visitkingsisland.com for any details on this.
  3. Anybody who listens to Bruce Williams will know that he is not a fan of the time share industry. The big problem is there is no way for you to unload your time share without taking a bath. These so called ads that say they will sale your time share is a scam in my opinion. If you want to buy a time share, buy one from a person trying to sale theirs. But the time share people will not mention that. The time share you buy will have maint fees and you will be lucky to use it during the prime vacation season. You will be better off just renting a nice vacation home for a week rather than locking yourself into a costly time share.
  4. I was at working opening day 2008 but not at tolls. I was working at tolls early in the morning when there was a bad accident outside of the south parking toll area. Some driver in a hurry to get into the park drove across the lanes to get in and hit another car. The driver must had still been partying from the night before. I have also been almost driven over by a car attempting to exit from the entrance plaza rather than go to the exit lane.
  5. Watch who you call an oldster! Has anyone here driven in Manhatten? Any one that drives too conservative there will be driven over by all the cabbies! In my opinion speaking on a cell phone while driving is more serious or just as serious as someone drinking and driving. You can not be paying attention to the road and other drivers when eating a big mac, putting on make up, switching cd's or anything else. I have seen all of that from drivers while working out at the parking tolls. They want me to wait while they continue talking on their phone rather than having their parkin toll ready, even with long lines of cars behind them. KI - The Original Employee
  6. I have been wondering with Diamondback being located in the Rivertown area of the park, if they will improve the flow of guests into that area of the park? Currently guests must go through Nick Universe to enter Rivertown. Won't this cause some what of a traffic jam leading into that section? Think they might open up the covered arbor again? 7. Congrats on getting the job in admissions! This will be my 4th year in admissions, 14th overall working for the Park. I work in the kennel so come by and say HI! KI - The Original Employee
  8. When I was sitting at lunch time at school watching the park being constructed, I could not wait to apply for work there. Finally in January 1972 they opened up HR and I (among others) waited in line several hours dying for the chance to apply. I was hired in as a "litter gitter" or ecology as it is now called. At first I was not to thrilled but I grew loving that job. I considered it as the best job that Kings Island had. I had the entire park to roam as my area of responsiblity and thus, time would fly. I would enjoy the scenery, the roar of the rides and most of all, the interaction I had with all the guests. We took pride in our work and loved to hear from guests, "How clean the park was!' I worked at the park from 72 through the end of 75 and came back in the mid 92 to 96, all the time spent working in ecology. I have been working at the park since 2005 through the present, which 2009 will make my 14th season. I transfered from ecology to the call center in 2005 and since 2006 I have been working in admissions. The one thing you can say about Kings Island is that they hire people of character. Everyone cares about their job, the people they work with and most of all, they really love greeting and make contact with all the guests that come into the park. When coming to the park to apply for any position, bring a desire that this is the place you would love to work at. Show it in how you greet the interviewer, answer their questions and most of all, make eye contact. As one of my former employers said to me, turn the interview into a conversation rather than a question and answer session. You will make lots of new friends. Enjoy your time at the Park! 9. I always work in the kennel, so drop on and say Hey!
  10. What did you do with your two dogs while at the park? Did you board them at our kennel at Kings Island? If so, I might had served you at the kennel. I worked there in the mid 90's and still work there. But now we charge $15/per cage.
  11. I worked at the park in the early 70's when we had 60,000 and it was wall to wall people. If I was going to Kings Island and I lived in the area, there is no way I would go to the park if it was that crowded. There can be no pleasure with very long lines for everything from rides to food to yes, rest room breaks. Last year during Robbie's visit was the most croweded in a long time and it was no way near 60k. I have worked a couple BAFD and it is an interesting day.
  12. I enjoyed myself and had a great time speaking with many of the people on KI Central. The tour of Great Wolf was something fun when you take into account the temperture outside. Hats off should go to all invoved in making this event possible! I finally got to meet Budda, Gordon Bombay, Dane and others from the board. The Original Employee! Mike
  13. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing some of my 14 years of working at Kings Island. As a life time resident of Kings Mills, I know the area known as KI very well and can't wait to share some of it. Mike
  14. I have a BS degree from The Mount, class of '91! I am going on my 14th season working at Kings Island.
  15. If anything, $6.00 for a (mostly?) all you can eat LaRosa's buffet is quite the deal!! We're thinking about straying away from pizza this year. We're open for suggestions!! As long as they don't serve food from Oscars!!
  16. Lots of discussion regarding skipping school just to ride the new coaster. I have another take on this: What do you think your boss would say if you came up and ask, "Is it ok if I take off work or leave early so I can go to Kings Island and ride that new coaster?" I bet he/she will say, NO! There is nothing worth skipping school for any reason (health reasons excluded) just so you can take in the new ride. Even if you are off school that day, is it worth waiting in a very long line just for the honor of riding it? When I go to the park as a guest, I will never wait in line more than 90 minutes for any ride. I go to the park to ride the rides and not wait in lines. On a side note, when I went to Kings, we only had off Good Friday and not a week for spring break.
  17. It has to be part of a business revenue stream. They want you to buy their food and drink. It is the same if you go to a sporting event, see a movie and even Riverfest. People have ask why KI charges so much for parking and they voice it should be cheaper or even free. It is the same with the price of food. People will spend several hours at the event and will need something to drink and eat. The way to reduce the price of Coke in the vending machines is to not buy it. But if people continue to buy it, the price will not come down. Coke might have a say in the minium price their product can be set at. I know when I worked at a market research firm, Coke and the rest of the softdrink companies set their price that the retail stores sold it at.
  18. You might be a KI addict... If the first thing after turning on the pc is clicking on the link to KI Central. You have the link on your PDA and even check it while on break while working at KI.
  19. I know that compactor by the HVAC very well. I have never seen a minor use that compactor. The ones in the back areas are like the one I described on my other post. I used to operate a carboard bailer at a wharehouse and we were trained on it. It had a dead man switch that prevented anything above 50 lbs from from getting caught in the blades.
  20. I can understand the issue about the hours worked without breaks for minors or the lenght of time each day they work. But putting trash into a compactor and pressing the button? I have worked in ecology in the past and almost everyone that hauls a trash cart is an adult. The compactors in the behind the scenes area are not complicated to operate. You toss the bag of trash in the bin and press the button when it is full. My apartment has those type of trash containers with a compactor attached. The opening is off the ground and no way a person can fall into it. The people working in ecology have access to the same trash bins that food stands use. Ecology only has workers over 18 working the trash bins. Now the food stands are a different thing. But still, it is not like they can fall into it.
  21. I am more of a Homer Simpson kind of guy!
  22. I used to watch way to many cowboy movies and decided to make a campfire - in our storage shed. Let me say I received one heck of a 3rd degree burn on my lower leg. As a five year old, I would go out and play as if nothning had happen until the time to go to the doctor. Then all that pain hit me. It was so black and the bandage stuck to the wound. I never endured so much pain and my mother almost fainted from the sight of it. I was lucky I was wearing shorts or my entire body would had been burnt.
  23. I am sure KI has a hot spot but it is a private system. I use my lap top with a connect card for just that reason, but who would bring a lap top while going to Kings Island?
  24. 82nd Abn, 3-4th Air Defense Btn (Abn)
  25. The place will be filled with Vets, just like myself. We like the ideal that is is going to a great cause. It will be a great time for the whole family. Airborne all the way!
