    New Coaster?

It sounds like that "employee" does not care about working at Kings Island or following the rules. That employee sure is not in the food chain when it comes to knowing about future plans and if employee was, they sure will not be spreading rumours or disclosing confidential plans. As for building a new coaster, I could see it if it was 10 years ago or so. Back then, parks were tripping over themselves when it came to building the longest, tallest, fastest, body crunching coasters but times has changed. They costs several million dollars each and with the economic changes we now face, the return on investment might not be worth it. The parks might find these mega coasters just might not cause an increase in attendence as in the past.
  2. I remember going to LeSourdsville (Americana) in 1967 and 1973 during a school outing and swear the Eagle was called The Rocket. The ride had a sign comparing it to The Racer at Kings Island. When was it renamed to Screechin Eagle? I really like going to Americana and ride the horses in the river town section. I liked receiving a real glass mug when I ordered a root beer drink there. It is really a shame seeing how it has changed from its hay day. If anybody remembered the old King Powdered Company, the same thing has happened to it. All of the land has been over grown and not much is left to see. If you go down old Magazine Hill in Kings Mills, right to the left of the horse shoe curve, you can see some of the foundations left from some of the buildings. Now all that is left is what is in pictures of how it used to look.
  3. I also found when I worked on my feet and had to walk the payment at Kings Island, I loved to wear Red Wing half boots, which were water proof (with leather treatment applied). My feet thanked me for wearing those fine boots with very good arch supports. I have always wonder how guests can wear flip flops while at the park without their feet hurting them? But when ever I made use of Boomerang Bay, the very first time my feet felt like they were on fire from the sun beating down on the surface. I hasten to the souveneer shop and bought a pair of aqua shoes to wear while at the water park. My feet did not feel like they were on fire and I could use them while in the water.
  4. The only plan they offer after 5pm is the Starlight admission, but that only covers that day only. Other wise, Terpy is correct as to the 2 day ticket. If you are a member of a credit union or AAA, they offer discount tickets but they have to be purchased through those locations.
  5. Parks like Kings Island make their money from what is spent inside the park, be it food or merchandise. That is what pays for new attactions and makes the share holders happy.
  6. As for parking, if you are a Gold or Platium pass holder, you can enter as many times each day as you wish. If you pay, keep the receipt they give you. If you leave, you can re-enter the parking lot as long as you present your parking receipt for that day.
  7. Do not eat a 3 way at Skyline and then ride "rock, rattle, and roll" or roller coasters. As a former sweep or litter getter as I call it, we did not like to make use of the Voban for any accidents.
  8. I have worn Nike walking shoes while working at Kings Island since 2006. They are made from good leather and provide plenty of support for the feet.
  9. While lots of roller coaster fans loved it when Kings Island built DB, there are lots of people that go to Kings Island for the family appeal of the park. In the past, parks would try to out do each other with the tallest, fastest, longests, ect roller coaster and spend millions to build them. Now with the down turn of the economy and fan interest changing, parks are changing their views. I guess they (parks) wonder what will be the increase in attendence with the opening of a new, multi milion dollar roller coaster and would it be worth it. I for one used to ride roller coasters but with age they no longer appeal to me. When a company makes any kind of investment in new equipment, they want a return on their investment in the shorter amount of time possible and an increase in production.
  10. Yes, but there are still those who just don't care...... Sadly.... Enjoy your job.... it could be worse! Just tune your TV to Dirty Jobs on Discovery and see what kinda crap lots of people have to deal with! Once when I was full time working in ride construction, I got caught in quick sand while working at the park. I was grouting the metal screws that was in the monorail track supports and unknown to me, the creek had all kinds of muck beneath the surface. This area of the old Lion Country was all nothing but mud and would become to entrance to the now Action Zone. But the creek had all been covered over with drainage pipes. The bad part about it was I was up to my chest in the muck and kept sinking when ever I attempted to get out of it. Finnally after 30 minutes and everyone laughing at me, I was pulled out by the Cat driver. I have seen some of those employees while working at the park. The good news about this is the park themself will weed them from the work force. I have seen Dirty Jobs and no way would I do the things he has done!
  11. I wear Nike walking shoes for their arch support and compfort to walk in while at work. When I was a sweep, I wore a Red Wing black half boot, that I kept polished, that gave great support while constantly on my feet.
  12. As for some employees not knowing Kings Island's history is a shame on them. I have worked at the park for 14 seasons and I take pride in knowing the history of the park. There are lots of sources for learning the history and the first stop would be the park's own web site. It is loaded with history on the park; time line of rides, both current and past just to list a few. There is of course web sites such as this and others. It helps to know about the park if a guest should happen to ask a question about the park.
  13. Do you still remember "The Name Game" song? It is where you say a name and the other person names a name that rhymes with it. I was working in Admissions during the day at Boomer Rang Bay along with the security people. We were playing The Name Game and I started off with Chuck for others to respond to. If you ever heard the song, that name is never mention in the song, except when kids are not present.
  14. Also school isn't out until after this week which could account for lesser crowds during the week. Just like Bodda mention that more and more of the park is being open up rather than confined to certain areas.
  15. Was it all the school and tour buses in the parking lot or the one bad apple that was cutting in line your problem? I would had prevented all my heart that kid from cutting in line, no matter how mad he might had been. Just like you did. All parks have their share of line jumpers but it is no reason not to come back. As for crowds, you picked a day that had all those busses full of school kids while the days earlier in the week did not. Kids will be kids, no matter where they might be. It sounds like they were there for school related events, just like math and science days.
  16. Terpy is correct in asking your supervisor regarding employment related questions. Also, we are all given hand books that state all policy and guide lines, including visiting the park as a guest.
  17. Kings Island: Beast Racer SOB FOF King Cobra The Bat Scooby Do (Beastie) Top Gun Screamin Deamon Adventure Express Bavian Beetle Vortex Backlot Stunt Coaster Coney Island: Shooting Star!!!! Wild Mouse Americana: The Rocket (as called in 67) Great Advanture: Wooden coaster like Racer (forgot name) mine ride (forgot name) I would had ridden rides like these but I had a metal and screws put in my cervical spine. I would love to ride DB but I fear my spine will be crushed from the G-Forces. I have never been to CP but would love to go. As for steel coasters, I am a big woody fan at heart. I used to work for Charles Dinn at Kings Island and he was great to work for!
  18. I have worked in the marketing research field and retail stores discount merchandise that is left over from the past year's inventory to make room for this years merchantdise. It does not mean that Nick Universe will be replaced anytime soon. Anybody that has gone to stores for the Friday after Thanksgiving sales know about all the discounted sale items. It is for the most part inventory left over from the past year or season. You will not see the new LCD wide screen TV's reduced but the prior year's inventory that is either been returned, reconditioned or left overs. Same here I bet.
  19. Sorry about the typo! I meant TBDBITL. I thought I had it right. But I always wanted to be part of that band but I can not. I play the saxophone and they are an all brass band. If anybody has ever been part of a marching band, you know all the hard work we go through to prepare for our haft time show at foot ball games. The demand for making and keeping your position in TBDBITL is out of this world. There is always someone waiting to take your spot if you goof up. The one thing that I like about this band is the military precision that they maintain. I like their format (which all colleges have) rather than the format that high school bands now have endorced, which is more of a drum and bugle style. This is the style that is seen at the marching contests sites that bands perform in compeition. My old high school band I don't think has even played a Sousa march in ages for this reason. Granted I attended these contests while in the band and we performed the military style as colleges use. My years was from 1969 to 1973 when I attended high school.
  20. In fact they are TBDBNTL!!
  21. Beware...one can be immune to poison ivy for years and years and years, then one day.... Terpy...don't ask me who I know this! Don't tell me about poison ivy. I remember once I was hiking through the Kings Island grounds in the late 60's and caught a bad case of poison ivy. I will not mention the part of my body that I had the misfortune of getting it on! It was plain murder suffering from it for a week.
  22. I would love to go to the Appalachian Festival at Coney. Granted I love roller coasters, but for health reasons I can not ride them. As mention above, not everyone for what ever reason do not ride roller coasters or at least have other interest including thrill rides. I work at Kings Island during the day and can attend after I get off work.
  23. The only thing that seems to be missing is the soap!!!
  24. The park will never accept a ticket that has been stamped for re-entry. When the entry ticket is first scaned, it records the time, date and other things when used and is voided for further use. If that was the case, any person can always pick up a discard ticket and claim it is theirs. All guests should always save their ticket stubs if there is any questions regarding re-entry. Also as stated, all season passes are only valid for one single day use. On the back of the pass, it is included along with all the other legal jumbo. Season pass holders must still have their hands stamped for re-entry. I also will not go into other details regarding the issue.
  25. And at tolls they don't really have numbers for employees to use to call for help. People have been forgotten at gold pass booth. Employees have always been advised on the phone numbers to call for assistance. There is a specific number for information and if an emergency they can call 911 from any phone in the park, which ALL employees know.
