For the same reason people buy houses in subdivisions, no one wants to build a million dollar home next door to a trailer. Perhaps this doesn't translate as well in this situation but I do think businesses are more interested in building a new location in an exciting new development vs one that's being haphazardly thrown together.
-
Ya I see your point there, but in the least the land could be sold with architectural provisions for development just as in most subdivisions and some cities like Gatlinburg. That way at least things wouldn't be so mismatched and there would be some uniformity across the land being up for sale. Granted I do think having a master plan and leasing the property rather than selling would give better control of the property and in the end would likely raise more money than a flat out sale. I just wonder what will happen if they only end up getting rid of half of the property (which would likely be the most desirable pieces) what do you then do with the remaining?
-
Selling off pieces of a huge parcel of land without a master plan doesn't sound like a great idea. Granted it will generate some revenue for Cedar Fair but at best it will all get sold off in the individual pieces and then there will be a patchwork of developments. As much as I despise Gaylord for turning Opryland into a shopping center at least it was a cohesive plan. Hopefully at least a large portion of the land will be bought for a cohesive development, something like Newport on the Levy or Broadway at the Beach. Sure I'd rather see an amusement park there but that's has nearly 0 chance.

Just wanted to add while like many of you I love riding coasters with my hands pointed to the sky. However there are times especially on rides I'm unfamiliar with that my hands come down and grip. In most situations if I couldn't grip I'd probably be alright, in others might get a bruise, in an unexpected situation who knows. So yes it seems unfair to see trains full of riders with their hands up and not being able to ride for the lack of. The rules aren't in place for the common situation though.

Kentucky Kingdom
AintNutinElse2Do replied to sccard01's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
From the link above "we have made some modifications in the redevelopment plan for Kentucky Kingdom" Sure sounds like modifications means downsizing of initial plans. Or possibly the opposite but if I were a betting man I'd bet the grand re-opening won't be as grand as previously presented. -
Only thing I wanna add is never believe lowering taxes when adding another. I live in a county where our Mayor (now TN gov) told voters if they did not vote FOR a wheel tax property taxes would increase. Well the wheel tax passed :/ and shortly after property values were reassessed to higher values which in essence raised property taxes. Then of course property taxes went up later on. Now I'm thankful to live in a state where there is no state income tax but in the long run we definitely get taxed more overall, unless you never buy anything. But then again at least our state always has a balanced budget so I guess its worth it.

Dollywood is closing Adventure Mountain

^It was/is most directly across from the station of Wild Eagle. Also it was not an upcharge, very curious to see what they have in store to go in the spot. -
OFFICIAL: Cedar Fair Pairs with Coke
AintNutinElse2Do replied to jcgoble3's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Was hoping it went the other way but oh well. I'll just keep drinking water or when I want something different i'll choose one of those alcoholic beverages, even though 8 bucks for a beer is ridiculous in my mind it seems a better value than 5 bucks for a Coke. -
If you could make a whole new type of coaster..

::::drumroll... here is the F-Car concept in flying/drop position and the revised version but granted less F-looking. -

So I got the viewer downloaded, now it requires a content manager All is good though that is now being downloaded as well. Please bare with me for the grand release. If it ever ended up at a park I would be there opening day and hopefully before. Just to note I'm downloading via tether so must wait on 3G speeds. -

^Awe now see this is what happens when someone gets an idea and never does anything with it. The idea bounces around to someone else til finally someone acts on it. The inverted/standard coaster clearly would only work in single car trains. While I went to school for drafting I spent many hours on SolidWorks trying to create such an idea. I called it the F-Car, I also had a G-Car concept but that isn't what we're talking about right now. I'm currently downloading a SolidWorks viewer so I can try to find a way to post a pic of the F-Car train. -
So this is just to simply see who's coming to this years event. Also if anyone and has an idea how to identify who is who please submit your ideas and a time you think would be best for the meetup. Also if you plan on going out afterwards or plan on going somewhere else on Saturday mention that as well. I'm very excited for this years event and hope to see many new friends while I'm there. 1. Got my tickets and reserved my room. Got the room at Kings Island Resort Inn after all the closeness to the park and reasonable rate was just to hard to pass up even with no after party. Plus now that our group added Cedar Point on Saturday being close to the park means maybe a tad easier to get up early. We'll see how that works. Well if anyone wants to meet up just send me a message would love to meet some fellow KIC members.

Ah thanks RumorSmasher. Given the park closes at midnight and the clubs at 2 n 230 respectively I think I'll pass on a rushed club experience and just linger and mingle, I expect there will be some celebratory experiences by other means, likely just having some drinks with friends at the room. BTW we have an odd number in our group so if anyone wants to meet up with us that would be pretty sweet. KICentral Pride Meetup?

Here's my view of what could possibly happen. Even though the plan stretches out til 2021 I think this would be a bit ambitious as other park areas would likely need attention during this time span. My thought process comes from how they created the loop at Dollywood however.

LA Times: Top Ten Roller Coasters At Kings Island
AintNutinElse2Do replied to thekidd33's topic in Kings Island
^^ Ha my bad Mystery Mine slipped my mind I would actually put it at #5 and move the others below it down a notch. The fact it slipped my mind tells ya something though. It only makes the list because of the ending though. Granted I'm the same guy that put Disaster Transport over Maverick at Cedar Point as I'm convinced Maverick is the euthenasia coaster with the kill element removed. -

Ugh the Kings Island list doesn't bother me nearly as much as the Dollywood one. I mean come on we all know it goes. #1 Thunderhead #1 Tennessee Tornado #3 Wild Eagle #4 Slidewinder #5 Barnstormer #6 Blazing Fury #7 Smoky Mountain River Rampage #8 Adventure Mountain #9 Dare Devil Falls #10 Dizzy Disc Yes I meant to have two #1's just couldn't make the choice so they tied. -
I do hate to bump a thread but it's getting closer to the big event and was hoping someone could answer. Thought maybe doing it at an earlier/later time may help. There's simply better options for lodging if there's no after party at the hotel.

So I just saw this on the CincyGLBT website "This year, instead of an "after glow" party - check area taverns for Pride Night events." So I know it was stated above that the after party would still be at Kings Island Resort Inn but given that statement that doesn't seem so. So does anyone know more info, or have any on the other events? The after party was pretty much the only reason I planned on staying at the K.I.R.I. I'm traveling with a friend or two from Knoxville TN so not to in tune with the happenings in the Cincy area. On a somewhat unrelated note I think we will be going to Coney Island for the first time ever that following day which looks to be the last day of the season there should I expect large crowds at Coney?

Kentucky Kingdom
AintNutinElse2Do replied to sccard01's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Legoland KY? Doubtful, aren't all the current ones year round parks? Anyways, if the rides are currently only worth 9 million and it would cost a fortune to get everything up and going I just don't see how the park would be worth it. Especially when there's a larger 206 acre lot "for sale" just down the road from the current park. http://www.commercialsource.com/CS3017896 At 20 million they'd have some equity that a leased lot wouldn't provide granted it would take much more to fill in an empty lot. Though if you had to rebuild most everything anyway perhaps the cost wouldn't be much different especially if you were able to buy all the rides from an abandoned park at a group price. Now granted I don't know much about real estate so I don't know the specifics for that lot, I do know it would suffer the same height limitations as it's in line with the airport. Then there's this 400 acre lot http://www.commercialsource.com/CS3017029 again know nothing about whether or not an amusement park could be built on either lot but definitely seems like there's better options while staying in the area. -
Just a thought here, I know SOB's trains would have to be modified before going on another coaster. I also know that the state of Ohio requires parks to abide by manufacturers recommendations (though I don't see how Gerstlauer signed off on the modifications for SOB). Where I'm going with this though is since PTC no longer suggests backwards operations, if Gerstlauer did what do you think the chances of them using the G trains to return one side to backwards operations on The Racer?

New attraction at Knott's Berry Farm?
AintNutinElse2Do replied to King Cobra's topic in Coming Attractions
Just guesstimates here but I'd imagine Cedar Fair capital expenditures will be between $80-$90 million. Cedar Point $30m for Gatekeeper (which likely includes cost of demo, and the rest of the story) Great America $15m for "Au13" I know that's high for a woody but it's California and due to earthquakes regulations it'll likely cost more than usual That would leave $30-$45m for the rest of the chain. Again completely guessing here but I'd imagine the rest will work out something like this. Kings Dominion $10m for kids area refurbishment/expansion Worlds of Fun $5m for a WindSeeker Carowinds $5m for Dinos and or Luminosity style show This is where it gets tricky, roughly $10m-$25m left on the table. Which they could give Knotts a $25m coaster while shafting everyone else. Or split up the remaining $10m-$25m among everyone everyone else. Personally I feel it would be more likely for the $25m to be given to Knotts while everyone else gets the shaft or at most minimal (respectively) investments. Again just guessing here I'm no intern and have no relations with the dippin dots guy. -
Just some food for thought, an area could be a bunch of shows, rides, and shops. An area could just be the space around one ride. An area could also be the space between the following parentheses ( )
-
I notice many saying a new kids area is needed. While the park could stand to add more kid/family attractions, I'd rather them take a Dollywood approach in the future. By that I mean incorporate kid/family attractions alongside the higher thrill ones. For instance perhaps something like Lumberjack Lifts near Drop Zone, something like Ben 10 to compliment Invertigo, and so forth. Having a dedicated kids area is nice but so is keeping families in the same area. I'd imagine keeping them together would have some impact on guest spending too.
