OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010
Cormaster replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
And thats what really sucks about it. As soon as KI comes into view from the Interstate, the first things you see are Eiffel Tower, Diamondback, and Son of Beast! And whats even funnier is the second tallest coaster in the park is supposed to be nothing more than a mirage. Lets see Kings Island only has 13 coaster now, down from 14 last year, all signage is removed, and the thing that cracks me up the most, it's not there at all on the park map! -
You have a point there. Well Cedarfair has a Dale Earnhardt liscense. How about Intimidator: The experience... Ok well that's wrong lol. Anyway there is a lot of stuff they could do with Action FX theater. I just hope they do something with it soon!

Man when the park is 10-8, the park is usually dead, and honestly I can usually get multiple rides on everything within 4, 5 hours on those days. Don't sweat it.

^I can't argue with that. Steel Phantom had some nice claims to fame before the renovation, Son of Beast's biggest claim to fame seemed to be the loop, which is now gone anyway. I just hope they do SOMETHING with it next year. Renovate, re-open, or tear it down. IF they choose to do nothing with it this offseason at least come to some sort of decision! I too hate looking at it. Honestly my trips to KI feel kind of incomplete, since in '07, and '08 it was my favorite coaster! IF i can never ride it again, please tear it down and get rid of it. I hate looking at it! -
call it a hunch but I think we're getting a WindSeeker next year.
-
I really wonder how this is any different than say Vekoma Flyer vs B&M flyer or Vekoma SLC vs B&M Invert or Arrow hypercoaster vs. B&M Mega coaster... I could go on forever.
-
I'm kinda excited, I hate going to the park on opening day, and I don't really care I"m just happy to be getting a new ride. But I would of loved to see screaming swings go in... Skyhawk is teh awesomeness
-
I'm with you there. KK sucked. Every visit I took out there was worse than the previous one. The first year I went in 1998, I loved it. It didn't have as many rides and attractions as Kings Island, but it was something different with a different lineup of coasters to enjoy that was close to home. But every visit was worse than the last, and the worst thing about the park is it seemed to remove rides more than it added new ones. Kings Island is forever changing and evolving. Kentucky Kingdom just stayed the same.

We all complain about not having enough flats, but in reality we have more than we think, just 2 of the best ones are poorly maintained and are often forgotten. the first one being the Crypt, and the second one being Action theatre. Seriously though it's not a thrill ride, but it was alot of fun as Days of Thunder the ride, or James Bond. Sponge bob well was ok one time I guess, but 7 years later it's just lame now. Perosnally I'd rather they just ditch sponge bob and make it something else. This is one of those time's though that without movie theming it probably baffle's Cedar Fair's mind "uhhh what do we do with it?" "just leave it as it is, screw it, no one will notice!". I'm not sure where they could go. If Paramount still was calling the Shot's I'd say Transformers 3D, but of course that's not the case. Just put something cool in there, make it fun again. Bring Days of Thunder the ride back!

Me thinks that whatever rep told Channel 5 that basically just repeated what was said before. "no Decision has been made and we're still weighing all options". So basically its the same thing we've heard before but in different words. Nothing to get excited about. Though I have wondered recently about how people have said they want a new woodie, and I've wondered if they can renovate SOB into a new wooden coaster, and rename it, similar to what kennywood did with the Steel Phantom to Phantom's Revenge. Really that coaster gives me some faith that maybe some day SOB will re-open. I mean Phantom's revenge went from a coaster that was too painful and too intense to enjoy to being regarded as one of the best steel coaster's in the world. -
That's good use of the boards.. not to provide some quality input about rides, but to rile other people up and waste all of our time. End slight rant. Somebody needs a hug
-
call it a hunch but I don't think we're getting a new looping coaster for '11
-
Man I wish they'd kill off Sponge Bob 3D. Sponge Bob is annoying, and yes we know HE GETS THE DANG PICKLE! Action FX theatre has always been one of my favorite flat rides, but having Sponge Bob in there for god only knows how long has killed that ride for me!

Ok on that note WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH Firehawk? When it went up in '07, they acted like its dual loading station was revolutionary and was going to save all kinds of time, but honestly I don't see how it saves any! You watch the Ride Ops and they quite literally load both trains at the same time, dispatch one, then wait till the first one's in the brake run, then dispatch the second one, then wait till both trains are back in the station to re-load and dispatch again! IT would be nice yes if they could say get both trains going at the same time, but you know what would help alot? IF their was always at least one train going! Why do they load the thing so inefficiently? Sometimes you think its broke because you'll look over and see no trains running on it. Nope the ride ops are just taking too long as usual to launch one! Seriously anyone have any insight as to why Firehawk is so inefficiently loaded? I've been dying to know since I first rode it!
-
I'm actually looking forward to checking this ride out. its kind of cool that these 4 wind seekers are the first in the world.
-
yeah I rode it after the mods apparently. I rode it in 1994, I was never aware their were such mods. and why is ****pit as in jet ****pit censored?
-
I honestly don't get why people are mad that its not a coaster. I mean #1. Diamondback is not even 2 years old yet. Yes I am dying for an invert, floorless, or diving machine, but I have agreed with everyone when they've said "we need more flats". Diamondback is still a big draw to the park, and even Firehawk, the last coaster installation before Diamondback still remains very popular. I could always go for another coaster but I KNEW this was definitely not going to be a coaster! I mean look at all the prep work they did to get Diamondback to fit? IF they were putting in a new coaster we'd have seen some prep work by now! Also I knew realistically in this economy where Amusement park companies such as Cedar Fair and Six flags are struggling we're not going to see another 22/23 million dollar coaster going in after they just spent that in '08 putting Diamondback in! And #2 until Monday I thought we were getting NOTHING for 2011. This is a total surprise and a pleasant one at that. I think it'll be a fun ride and a great way to get a great view of the park!
-
I just don't get why Cedar Point is getting the EXACT same ride with the EXACT same name?
-
I'm just tryin to rile people up now.
-
Well I'm a coaster Freak myself, but at the same time, I don't think its time just yet to 1UP on Diamondback, and the park needs another flat. This thing looks cool. I don't think it will be an extreme "thrill" ride, but I think it'll be fun, kinda like the Zephyr with an awesome view of the park!
-
To each his own but I rode the ride once, and once was enough. It sucked, especially in comparison to the modern day flats we have in Drop Tower and Delerium. And when I went back in the future and it was gone, my reaction was "well, that's not uprising. that ride was lame anyway". Seriously if it was such a good ride, then why'd they tear it down?
-
hmmm.. it used to be listed under KI as a defunct attraction. Anyway the ride sucked, it was lame, and it killed somebody, I'm sure no one wants to remember it. I did get to ride it before... it was nothing special. Just a bunch of jet ****pits that fly around in a circle and you can turn the ****pit left or right with a joystick... it sounded a lot more awesome on paper than it did in real life.
-
Honestly I'd take a new coaster over anything... but for me I'm excited because up until yesterday I thought we were getting NOTHING for 2011. And besides the park needs some more flat rides, I can't deny that. Honestly the Wind Seeker/star flyer thing looks kind of cool and fun, and I think it would be cool to look down while being up that high!
-
24 people? I sure hope whatever version we get seats more than that, or we could see outrageous waits like 5 hours or something! That is assuming we're getting one of these IT does make the most sense. what else could be taller than Diamondback, but alot more affordable, and require a small enough footprint that doesn't require a lot of preparation throughout the season?
-
^sounds neat but me personally if its a coaster I'm saying its a twisted impulse. Its the only thing I could see that would be small enough there wouldn't be massive amounts of land clearing needed for it, and cheap enough it could fit in the park's budget, yet tall enough (granted it would be the world's "tallest and fastest" twisted impulse coaster) to be taller than Diamondback. Of course if we're talking "Tallest in the park" then nah its not a twisted impulse. I could see maybe 235 feet or something for one, but 300 or higher? Nah that's crazy! I'd be all for one though, I really did enjoy Wicked Twister at CP, and it was fun, and smooth, and didn't include the nausea that I get from riding Invertigo! But I too think its gotta be a star flyer... what else could it be? Tallest in the park? Well since we already have a Drop Tower its not that, and its unlikely its a coaster... so well yeah.
