  1. LOL I remember that commercial. I think I even commented on how the slogan didn't make sense. Honestly Diamondback isn't even a "scary" ride. Its just 5,282 feet of pure fun!
  2. Taking out the Antique cars were an epic fail! I like BLSC, but honestly Kings Island is not landlocked what-so-ever, so there was NO reason to take out such a popular attraction to put it in. I'm just sayin, my mom even liked the cars. She wouldn't ride anything, but she loved the cars! They could of put BLSC somewhere else. But hey that was Paramount's thing. Kudos to Cedar Fair for not removing any rides to put Diamondback in!
  3. Whats with six flags renaming everything "Bizzaro"? Me personally I thought "superman: ride of steel" sounded better.
  4. I think I want the thread closed. Not sure if I made my point, but I'm just letting you know man, I want the thread closed
  5. I've been on Mantis, Iron Wolf, Chang, and King Cobra
  6. I'm impartial honestly, I'm just saying I wouldn't mind if it was closed. I don't mind if they leave it open either
  7. I wouldn't mind seeing this thread closed... There's really not much to talk about that's already been discussed, but as others say you close this one, another one will pop up.
  8. I am interested in whats going on with the dirt back there. Hopefully we here something soon.
  9. 1. Maverick 2. Top Thrill Dragster 3. Raptor 4. Millennium Force 5. Magnum XL-200
  10. Well it wouldn't surprise me if maybe that was the reason GCI wouldn't build a coaster for them. Certain coaster companies don't like doing certain things. For instance B&M doesn't like building coasters over 300 feet and they don't like LIM launches.
  11. lol I had no idea you could hit the tunnel. I usually try to always keep my hands up on all coasters, but wooden ones are so rough its hard to keep them up so naturally on The Beast I put my hands down, not to mention in the tunnel the tunnel I always felt like I was going to hit my head or get decapitated anyway from the optical illusion. But wow so you really can hit the tunnel?
  12. I really loved the front seat. It almost felt like a steel hypercoaster in the front.
  13. I do want to add though that inspite of my love for the coaster, Its time to let it go. The main problem is its a lemon. it has the build quality of a Ford Pinto, and its a mechanical maintenance nightmare, and its time to let it go, and all the modifications in the world aren't going to fix it. It needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt. I truley do believe the whole design would have worked and could have been potentially loved by enthusiast had Paramount not chosen some joke of a company to built it. American Roller Coaster company? I mean Who is that? You'd think if you were out to build the best ever wooden coaster in the world you'd get one of the best company's out there, such as GCI, to build it. I mean what if instead of having Diamondback built by B&M, they had it built by some little hole in the wall engineering firm? Anyway I wouldn't mind if they demoloshied it and had Intamin or GCI build them an awesome woodie for the area. More than anything I want a B&M invert. After all even without Son of Beast, we still have 2 great wooden coasters, including one that many people consider the best ever.
  14. Great post man! I agree i didn't find Sonny any more rough than you'd expect from a wooden coaster that goes 80mph and has a drop over 200 feet. I know even before the incident it's been considered a bust my many enthusiasts but I rode it twice in 2003 and it met my expectations and I got off calling it "the best coaster ever" both times. It had a 45 minute wait but I waited, and love it so much I had to wait again. Now after the new trains were put on, THEN it became to rough IMO. That is in the back half of the train. From the middle car and up the ride isn't bad, but the back half of the train was ridiculously rough. It was apparent that the ride was never designed to take those trains.
  15. Yeah during my 2 days at CP, it was supposed to rain all day the first day and then be clear and sunny all day the second day. The first day had overcast all day but not a single bit of rain, the second day had 20 minutes of rain in the middle of the day. Yeah I'd just go, I doubt it would rain all day, and if it does rain it'll clear out the park. Some of my best trips to KI have been on a rainey day.
  16. you make good points GYK. Who knows maybe there is still some hope left for it. I know every trip to KI feels somewhat incomplete without a ride on SOB. At the same time I think I'd be fine if they tore it down and put a new coaster in its place. Honestly though I realize I'm in the minority when it comes to people who like the coaster. Also the '06 incident to me just kinda proves its a bad cheaply built structure and all the new trains are doing on it is buying time till it breaks again. Between Paramount and Cedar Fair I believe over $40 million has already been pumped into maintaining and modifying the Son of Beast, yet stuff keeps happening on it, and its just got a bad rep overall. Also I'd think if they were planning on reopening it they'd at least put it on the park map, or keep the signage up for it. As far as the GP is concerned, the Coaster doesn't exist. I just don't see where they can go from here. And as for the "iron horse" solution, how does that help the faulty structure? It will def. improve upon the overal ride quality, but The structure can still fail! But even that being said I don't see them tearing it down till they need the land for something. The Cheapest option still is to do nothing right now, or just reopen it. I honestly don't see why they are keeping it closed. The State of Ohio has cleared it to operate, they might as well open it!
  17. I said I Kinda understand why they are removing Mega loopers like GASM because they are showing their age, though I still questioned why do it for an old B&M standup coaster. To be exact:
  18. I rode Raven in '97. I liked it. It was alot like The Beast if I recall.
  19. I for one like the Kings Island Resort. Its an older hotel, no doubt, but its clean, rates are cheap, they got an indoor hot tub and pool that stays open till midnight, a full service restaurant and bar called "Coasters", and transportation to and from the park via shuttle busses. I stayed there in August of '08 and had a blast!
  20. LOL an Intamin Giga? Seriously? I don't see that happening. While the area is perfect for one, They aren't going to 1up Diamondback just yet. Also you gotta figure they also spent a pretty penny on Diamondback, CF isn't going to spend that kinda money on KI anytime in the near future, especially with their financial problems. I am curious as to what they are doing. If they are planning on removing SOB, than they MUST have some plan for the land. Many have said it, and its true, removing coasters cost money. Most parks would just as rather just leave a Coaster SBNO than spend the money on demolition.
  21. I don't blame anyone for being upset. I mean I spited Delirium forever and refused to ride it forever because I was bitter about them tearing down king Cobra. But in hindsight they had an acutal reason. TOGO was out of business, the Japanese steel used on Cobra was crappy, and maintenance was getting to be quite high dollar. I did eventually ride Delirium and found it to be one of my favorite rides at the park. In this situation, however, I'm not sure why Six Flags is removing what many consider to be a great Arrow Mega Looper. I guess i could understand if they were putting a brand new more modern coaster in its place, but they are putting a 13 year old B&M standup in. B&M standups are often known to be even more painful to ride than Arrow Mega Loopers. I do know the day they tear Vortex down I'm going to cry. Its my very first big coaster, and until Diamondback was built, it used to be the standard to ride it at least 3 times a trip. I don't understand Six Flags "Funstruction" thing, seems kinda insensitive to those who care for the coaster.
  22. I originally said "deja vu" but honestly Not really. My favorite fail ride that I've read about is Drachen Fire. Pretty interesting really. Its my understanding Busch wanted B&M to build Kumba and Drachen Fire for them, however B&M was busy making the 2 Vortex standups for paramount parks, and working on Batman the ride, so they only could deliver one, so the project was handed over to Arrow. Interestingly it even looks like a B&M as Arrow tried to incorporate their design standards into the project, but the result was a complete failcoaster. Wish I would of gotten a chance to ride it when it was still around.
  23. yeah Diamondback is a people mover, like most B&M's. Thats why I rode it 3 times, and its my favorite ride in the park. I'll have to remember for the future, don't go in July. I kinda wanna go back at least once, not twice. See if I can actually try to like Firehawk again, and give Flight of Fear more love, since i don't get to ride it nearly enough. I've just kinda been spoiled by going on some really really dead days, and if the park's even normal, I get kinda impatient. BTW does anyone know whats going on in August on the week of the 16th? We used to go out there around that time and spend the night at either GWL or the KI resort, and it's usually dead, and rates are low. This year for some reasons the rates are higher. Something must be going on. BTW I do want to point out I still had fun on my trip, but the crowds were definitely disappointing.
  24. Yeah I'm kinda hoping it means the economy is turning around and it'll help Cedar Fair make more money thus encouraging more improvements to the parks for next year.
  25. So yesturday I took a personal day from work and went to Kings Island with my brother, who like me is a season pass holder. We were hoping to get their at open but we were both running behind a bit, and alas by the time we left Indy it was 9:30. I ended up arriving at the park at 11:30... only to wait in a line of cars. I was kind if in denial about it, but I could tell right off The Bat it was going to be a busy day. We got in there finally around 11:55, and hit up Diamondback...45 minute wait...what? Usually when I get in line for Diamondback all queues are closed and its just a straight line right up to the coaster. Well we got in line and it went fast, and when I got up there I noticed the green train wasn't running... didn't quite get that. So the park's really busy and you only run 2 trains? Anyway Diamondback was awesome as usual. I attemped to ride The Beast next and then nearly stopped dead in my tracks as the wait sign said 90...wtf? I've been coming to the park constantly since 2007, probably 10 trips, and never once have i had to wait more than 5 minutes to ride The Beast... what was the deal today? So we decided to hit up Vortex, which while the line was long, I knew from past experience it would only take 15 minutes and it did. Afterwhich we were a little frustrated and decided it was time to relax a bit, so we hit up outerhanks and got ourselves some beer. We sat there for a while, and then we went over to the Festhaus. I really dug the pizza deal... 2 slices and 2 breadsticks and sauce for $8. It was really good too, being La Rosa's. Afterwhich we hit up viking fury, and then we decided to go to Boomerang bay for a while to cool off... 15 freaking dollars for a locker? Someone pick my clothes off the ground because thats RAPE! Can't believe they don't have $2 one-time use lockers there. Anyway Boomerang bay was stupid packed as I would figure, but thats ok. I didn't really come to ride slides. We hit up the lazy river and then the wave pool, and then we hit up the lazy river one more time and took off. It was fun and more than enough to cool off. Afterwards we got dressed and went back to the park. We decided to hit up Diamondback again. The line had regressed a bit from earlier and the wait time was only at 30 minutes this time. And they had all 3 trains running. And Diamondback is still awesome. We went and got some coffee from starbucks and drank it watching a little bit of Signed Sealed delivered, and then headed to Action Zone for some fun. Delerium's wait wasn't bad when we got on it. We went on the 3rd cycle after we got in-line. Then we hit up Flight Deck, which was completly dead. I sat torwards the back and loved it... it was a little rougher and a lot more intense in the back. No one was in-line so we sat back down and rode it again. After that I decided it was time for a ride on an oldy but goodie, Racer. Racer was nearly walk-on, which is about normal from what I've seen, but it was alot of fun and I kept my hands up the whole time. Decided it was time to check on X-base... and it was a nightmare. All the queues were full on FoF, and Firehawk had a 45 minute wait (which means 1 1/2 wait with that crappy loading system)... What was the deal with this day? The park ACTUALLY seemed to be getting busier, and at this point it was like 8! So we decided one more ride on Diamondback and we were done. The line had grown to nearly fill up the whole initial queue area, but only took a 1/2 hour. Diamodnback, once again, was awesome, and then we took off from there and headed home. I had a lot of fun hanging out with my brother...but what was the deal with the park being so busy on a freaking MONDAY? I went in July in '08 on a wednesday and the park was dead, I kinda expected the same thing yesturday. If I knew it was going to be that busy I would of just gone on Saturday and not take any time off work!
