  1. I used to watch The Dinah Show after school. She had a great talk show with many big name star guests.
  2. My heartfelt condolences to Doug's friends and family.
  3. That sounds like fun. I think I'll get started now thinking of celebrity connections to KI. Maybe we can start a separate thread-don't want to interfere too much with commentary on Paul's cool photos.
  4. I'm going to take a guess- I think that's Jonathan Winters. He also did KI ads. He was always one of my fav comics-he is hilarious.
  5. On one Haunt Saturday night, I decided to test how long the extra wait was with Fast Lane. I waiting for DB when the line was back to Rivertown Junction. The wait from that point is normally 50 minutes. I timed it that night at 1 hour 55 minutes, so the wait time was indeed more than double the time.
  6. I always thought that it was interesting that park rules state you are required to hold onto restraints yet they look the other way when people put their arms up. It seems like this is a rule meant to be broken.
  7. As to the guy with the cigarette in his mouth, smoking in the early 80's was still fashionable. There weren't designated smoking areas and you could even smoke in the queue lines. And most likely employees could smoke even in view of the guests as a long as they were off duty.
  8. I liked Vortex during its first few years as it was a nice, smooth ride. I very rarely ride it now as it has just gotten too rough. It seems like arrow loopers just don't age well. For example, when I rode Great American Scream machine at Six Flags Great Adventure a few years ago, I thought I was going to get whiplash around the rough turns.
  9. I first rode Vortex opening year in 1987 when I was 26 years old. ( And you are saying ov vey, PKI Boy-lol.) Anyway, I was still pretty nervous about coasters with inversions and remember closing my eyes.
  10. I think on the thread Countdown to Opening Day 2011, Paul did post such a photo.
  11. They should make the burgers at all their parks like they do at Dorney Park-their burgers are to die for.
  12. I thought the site of The International Showplace used to be where the dolphin show was.
  13. Unfortunately, the Phantom Theatre photo reminds me of the loss of one of my fav KI rides ( before many of you were born), Enchanted Voyage.
  14. Paul, is that you in The Vortex photo in the second row on the right?
  15. My sincere condolences to you for the loss of your loved ones.
  16. You mean their "standing around, pretending like spooky things are happening and tricky editing to make it seem like something actually happened?" Agree with you. That has got to be the phoniest show.
  17. 1993-Kumba ( Bush Gardens at Tampa)-the first B & M that I rode and I have been hooked since 1994 Raptor ( CP) -if I remember right was the second invert that B & M built after Batman at SFGA ( America that is.). Improved the experience by adding something that Batman didn't have which was the cobra roll, which is my fav part of the ride. 1996-Mantis ( CP) - tallest and fastest stand-up until Chang and later Riddler's Revenge. In my opinion, one of the most under-rated coasters but, what can I say, I love stand-ups. The floating sensation felt at the crest of the vertical and dive loops is sensational.
  18. I would guess that he Olympic logo was displayed because the ride was supposed to be like a bobsled ride.
  19. While I have always preferred Mantis, I must admit that King Cobra will always have a special place in my heart. I remember riding it for the first time in 1987 with my friend Doreen and being absolutely terrified and closing my eyes. It took a few years for me to adapt to it.
  20. Paul, you mean Winnie Witch's Cauldrens, the only ride at KI on which I have had a protein spill in my 40 years of patronage of the park. ( ooops, just discovered I posted this a day after the photo I am referring to was posted-I just realized the topic today is Flying Dutcman. )
  21. And did you know that Grand Hotel is the only Best Picture winner in oscar history not to have been nominated in any other categories?
  22. Not sure such a deal would be good for my already thick waist line.
  23. ^I still miss the old Columbia Palace at that location. My dad and I would always eat there and the fried chicken was great.
