Coaster Mania - Ohio Roller Coasters 1989
markr replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The Maggie Girls-yes, those were the days when CP had all male and all female ride crews. All female crew rides: Magnum, Mean Streak, Mantis, Gemini. All male: Raptor, Blue Streak, Wild Cat. -
At Soak City Saturday, I made one food purchase but the rewards points never posted to my card-I saved my receipts in case I didn't see the points.

Went to Soak City yesterday and had a wonderful day. I loved the new wave pool and felt that the waves exceeded expectations. Also, I thought it was a nice touch having little tables by your chair to put your drinks on. Only criticism that I expressed to management was the music-need beach music like The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean as backround music. All and all, Soak City Rocks. Nice work KI.

Sunny and 84 this Saturday. Plan to get there early so I can get my chair with an umbrella-then last one in is a hot potato!(lol.)

Cedar Point removing WildCat
markr replied to PREMiERdrum's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is the first time in decades that CP has removed a coaster. At any rate, I certainly will miss Wildcat. -
Actually, after reconsidering, I rather like the Thrills Connect ads even though they are kind of silly-they remind me of those silly, wonderful ads by CP in the 90's. However, of course, prominently featured in the ad is KD''s Dominator. Although KI's ads have featured rides from different parks all the way back to the Paramount days, it still seems like a disservice to your customer's to advertise in such a way.

Thank you Gordon Bombay-that is exactly what I intended to say in my post. I clearly state in my post that it is the responsiblity of the merchant to make sure that every patron have a positive experience. ( Not the same experience. ) Whatever you pay for a good or service, isn't the experience supposed to be positive?

May seems to be a big month for Church/Youth Group, after prom, and school trips. For that reason, I would expect busy Saturdays at least if the weather is nice..

Just wanted to welcome you CGraham to KICentral.

CP never had metal detectors and always felt very safe up there as you see police officers everywhere.

One of my favs has always been Rivertown Potato Works-they beat CP's Boardwalk Fries by a mile. I love to dip them in barbeque sauce.

On a lighter note, had to post this old commercial from the 1960's:

My mother took care of many a patient who suffered the consequences of smoking-I am talking lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema. There are some that smoke like chimneys and live to ripe old ages. ( Like movie stars Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Claudette Colbert.) The majority of smokers, however, who continue to smoke do not live to ripe old ages. And whether you live to be 60 or 80, to die a smoking related death is to die a horrible death. What galls me is people who continue to smoke knowing full well the risks and brag that it won't hurt them, then get sick and turn around and sue the tobacco companies. This is not a smoker-hater thread as I am a former smoker myself and enjoyed every cigarette I smoked- I am not denigrating people who continue to smoke-I am simply saying to people to stop lying to themselves about the risks.

I just wanted to welcome Kings Island vs Cedar Point to KICentral.

A Water slide I would never dare to go down
markr replied to Oldschool75's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That final helix is rough although I do love Gemini-that part of the ride is definately arms down. http://www.KICentral...tr/#entry304620 http://www.KICentral...en/#entry238091 -
It has been decades since CP has removed a coaster so I am betting against the removal of DT.

What you say is true to a point. However, that does not mean that all customers should not be valued equally. It is the merchant's responsibility to make sure all guests, not just the guests that pay more, have a positive customer service experience. To implement the Fast Lane program at the expense of sacrificing outstanding line capacity does just that-it creates a negative customer experience for guests who cannot afford the Fast Lane pass. So what happens? In the long run, you lose more customers than you gain In my job as a Customer Service Respresentative, I serve customers from all walks of life. The customers from better walks of life can afford the better products that our company offers. But guess what? We are expected to value all of our customers equally by providing everyone with the same outstanding service and treating everyone with the same level of respect and dignity.

I'm absolutely speechless. -
I think reports of crowds on holidays, even on weekends, tend to be over-rated. For example in 2010 I was at the KI on Saturday 7/3 and it was an absolutely gorgeous day-the park was practically empty. Also, I have been to CP on Labor Day Saturdays when the crowds are light. It is usually the Sunday in the middle of three day holiday weekends that are the most crowded.
-
You could always count on Jim Knippenberg, may he rest in piece, to write great, informative articles for The Enquirer about both KI and CP. I remember receiving a really nice e-mail back from him after I had e-mailed him about how much I enjoyed his articles.

You will notice on the quiz that they ask a question about Son of Beast in the present tense, ie, is ( then gives you your choice of tallest, fastest, both, or neither.). I guess technically, even thought its not operating, it still holds the record since they didn't phrase the question as "Son of Best is the ________operating coaster in the world. However, if you distinguish it this way, it still doesn't make sense to me how you can say a coaster is the fastest in the world when it is not even operating-I would assume that you would have to have some operation to have any speed.

Since I live so close to the park, long line waits don't completely ruin my day since I go back to the park frequently. Therefore, I plan to act as "guinea pig" in the next few weeks and test the line waits on the busy Saturdays and see if management has listened to our feedback about the Fast Lane weaknesses. I do have faith that the problems will be fixed eventually.
