  1. That's not the song I was thinking of. I am sure the one I am thinking of goes" sun, sun, sun sun..." it is not a very well known song but they used to play it on the sound track at Water Works, then brought it back after Boomering Bay went back to the regular beach music. It sounds like the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean, probably Jan and Dean.
  2. Speaking of Boomering Bay, does anyone know a tune on the sound track that goes, I think, like this: " We're all over the sun," then a chorus "sun, sun, sun, sun, sun, sun, sun, sun, sun, sun". Is it the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean or some other group? I'm trying to find it on Google. Help, Terpie.
  3. Although I love the big coasters, one ride of which I am still terrified and will not ride is Witch's Wheel at CP. ( Their version of KI's Skylab. )
  4. Nice TR but disagree about Gemini. In my opinion, one of most underrated coasters. Since Gemini is steel and Racer wood, feel it is like comparing apples to oranges. While I am a hands -up person, I lower my hands to the top of my head when I get to that head chopper. And, unlike Racer, on Gemini you can high-five the people in the other train. Just my personal opinion.
  5. Riding a rollercoaster is certainly a lot safer than changing a lightbulb in your house.
  6. No Gemini? Nothing beats a ride where the trains are going just at about equal speed so everyone can high-five each other.
  7. That would be Midway Market. Would agree with you-excellant food. Wish the buffet at KI had such good quality. Don't forget, guys, to factor in which months you go to CP when estimating line waits. June tends to be slow, July and August packed.
  8. Great seeing you at the DB souvenir shop.
  9. That would be perfect-what I would like to have seen in 1993 but better late than never.
  10. I get the impression that attendance has been soft at KI because of the recession.
  11. I think that was Friday I wore the TTD shirt. Saturday I wore my First Rider DB shirt. ( And once again was asked if I was the first rider-hehehe )
  12. Guilty only of number 4, and the day will come soon enough I can't even claim that one! Terpy, card carrying member of many organizations... So glad to hear that you were not guilty of #3 Terpy! Guilty of 1,3,4.
  13. I would like to know what basis all of you have for stating that families spend more money at the park than single people. Since people like me are single and have no children to support, it is only logical that we are likely to have more disposable income. Sure I will bring a cooler or eat outside the park but so do a lot of families with children. This has everything to do with the fact that the price of food is high and the food is low quality and we are in a recession. If you bring the prices of things down and the quality up, everyone will spend more money in the park, married or single, child or childless. Even though I am single, I have spent plenty over the years at both KI and CP on food, shirts, and hotels. Again, the term "Families are where the money comes from" may not have been intended as offensive but that is how it comes across to us. Us single people are also important to the economy and businesses need to wake up to that fact.
  14. To say that "families" ( whatever your definition of that term is ) do not enjoy coasters/thrill rides is an over-generalization. Many people whether they be single or married, children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens, love coasters/thrill rides and many people whether they be single or married, children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens, cannot stand coasters/thrill rides. That is why you have to survey all of your customer groups, not just some of them.
  15. Go to www.visitkingsisland.com and you will find the price plans for tickets and season passes. If your mother and the children are going to the park 3 times or more, you might consider buying them a season pass-there is a discount for children under 48 inches and for senior citizens, cost 74.99 per pass. Otherwise the price for children under 48 inches and for senior citizens for a one day admission is 29.99.
  16. Have been the sole rider on following: Beast, Mean Streak, Woodstock Express, Raptor. I remember the Raptor announcer saying when my train came back, " Welcome back Raptor rider, how was your ride?"

    G Forces

Good point. Like I say it could be just my imagination that putting my arms up relieves the G's. Still think would be good subject of an experiment for math/science day.
  18. Never tried the blue ice cream but love the chocolate soft serve. No one makes soft serve, in my opinion, like KI. My dad used to love the soft serve cones at KI and old coney and everytime I have a soft serve I have such warm memories of him.

    G Forces

This is simply an observation as I am not a scientist. Let's say a coaster does 4 g's. That means that you feel like 4 times your normal weight. I find putting my arms up relieves the g's as I have less weight in the train. Again, that may or may not be true. This would be a good experiment for math and science day.
  20. I agree with you, Cedar Fair is doing an awesome job of catering to all their customers, not just part of them. I am just saying that the words "Families are where the money comes from" is a poor choice of words. It is insulting to many people like me who choose to be single. I have no problem with a business trying to make a buck but insulting your ( however unintentional ) loyal customers is hardly a way to be profitable.
  21. Perhaps that statement "Families are where the money is" was never said. However, assuming it was said for the sake of argument, it is a very poor choice of words. Remember, it is just as important how you say something and how you come across to others as what you say. And from a business perspective, I believe indeed you will be more profitable if you support all your customers instead of just part of your customes. Sure there are lines in the Nick Universe but there are also lines at the thrill rides. (DB, Beast, SOB, etc. ) The rollercoaster is and will always be the bread and butter of any amusement park. And from a business perspective it is just as important, perhaps more important, not to offend your loyal base of customers at the expense of getting new customers. Remember, it takes years to maintain a customer but just 30 seconds to lose a customer.
  22. I disagree. I believe all groups, singles and families, teenagers, etc, are likely to bring coolers because of the high prices and low quality of the food at KI. If you lower the prices and make better food, you will see all groups spending more money on food.
  23. I find such a statement "Families are where the money comes from" downright insulting. Maybe I am not married with kids but I have worked just as hard for my money and have chosen KI as a place to spend that money. I have been a loyal customer of KI for 37 years and feel my opinion as to the future of the park should matter just as much as someone with a spouse and children. An amusement park should support all of its customers, not just some of its customers People keep forgetting that although CP has a lot of thrill rides it is very family friendly. There are three nice children's areas, a great train, wonderful shows, and of course the resorts.
  24. On the midway Saturday nite, heard Gin Blossom's I Heard About You, which I used to hear all the time in the Mantis queue.
  25. How exactly do you do that? You're the second person I've heard of who's gotten over 100 rides on Diamondback (I forget how many the other person has - I'm sure someone else will remember though). Simple-I only live about 5 miles from the park, so I go every weekend. Between the SRL and the high capacity of the regular line, I get a lot of rides even on busy days. He also seems to stay at Diamondback ALL DAY LONG! Don't you, Mark? Yup. I have been waiting so long for such a coaster at KI-while I like Beast, I cannot honestly say it is with my top 10 favs. The first drop on Beast and the last helix are awesome but in between it just seems like a mine ride. However, DB is just speed all the way-it is never boring. That is why it is now my number 2 fav behind TTD.
