  1. I have a vague memory of someone from the park during the early stages of Diamondback's construction (maybe during Fall Freak Out '08?) saying that they didn't want the area around Diamondback to be clear-cut the way the area around Backlot was. I would argue that that still kinda ended up happening. The best time to fix that issue would have been in 2009; the next best time is now.
  2. I like the new support color so much! If they want to go ahead and make all the supports that same brown, too, instead of having different colors on the lift hill, I'd be okay with that, too. It fits Rivertown so much better and removes a bit of that Kinzel era "red track, yellow supports" sterility of the early Cedar Fair years. EDIT: It looks like they might be repainting the lift supports yellow. Ah well, the brown in place of the tan is still a win!
  3. Wow, thank you so much for sharing! This is extremely cool! If you would be okay with it and if the admins are interested, I'd love to see these saved and preserved somewhere on the site. These are some really cool pieces of history that I would really hate to revisit down the road only to find every link broken. That's happened a lot here over the years, and I hate it every time I see it. @IndyGuy4KI @malem @Dane @CoastersRZ
  4. I'd love to hear more when the time is right! Oh yeah--to be clear, I think the fact that this pin series is happening at all is really above and beyond. I don't mean to be backhanded, but prior to Mike Koontz, I kinda expected the 50th anniversary to pass by with about as much fanfare as the 40th (which is to say: without much fanfare beyond some commemorative merch.) The pin collection is a cherry on top of a fantastic and exceptional season. ...I just don't like the artistic choices around this particular release. But it's easy for me to criticize behind my keyboard when I don't know just how intrusive the rules behind this one were.
  5. ...Okay, I don't want to be a whiner, but I really had my hopes up that the TRTR pin would get the Top Gun treatment to avoid Paramount naming. The Crypt was not the same experience as Tomb Raider. I think many would argue that The Crypt was not a positive experience. I realize there was a lot of copyright to navigate with TRTR in particular, but surely there was another option than to make a pin representing that ride's worst version of itself? (Purely in jest, I have to imagine this is what it would feel like for Son of Beast fans if their pin had just been a picture of the track that replaced the loop!) Heck, even the back of the card the pin is attached to has a picture of the ride as Tomb Raider! Even a pin of something as abstract as one of the queue lanterns, one of the bowls with fire in the antechamber, or a depiction of the cave front with "2002" underneath it in the TRTR sign font would be a little more compelling for me. I mean, I'll probably still buy it since even Crypt merch has never been common... but I'm a little miffed. I was holding out on buying any pins to avoid that dastardly shipping charge until the TRTR pin became available. My hopes were admittedly up. Oh well. Such is life.
  6. For some reason, I was really sure that HW had already gone cashless...
  7. I also wouldn't mind if they wanted to get rid of the trim brakes on the turnaround...
  8. Huh. Not complaining, but I hope they paint the new track to match the rest of the ride. It'd be an odd choice to leave it unpainted... but also not something I'd put past Cedar Fair, honestly.
  9. I want to say Six Flags stopped doing it a few years ago... I want to say it all disappeared by 2018. I could be wrong. If not then, then definitely by 2019. I'm still entertained and confused by some of Six Flags's ride choices for VR. Ninja at SFStL? Mind Eraser at SFA? You just blindfolded an innocent bystander and threw them in a pro boxing match. I don't agree with the anti-Six Flags bias the coaster nerd world has had for decades, but this is one where Cedar Fair definitively had a better execution.
  10. We seem to have a couple threads like this, but this is the one that seems to be getting the most attention. Reposting what I said in one of the others: In general, I thought this season as a whole was fantastic and one of the best in the 14 years I've been a passholder as an adult. The park was in peak performance this year, and I absolutely loved it and love where we're heading. The announcement of Adventure Port has to be up there for me. I can't begin to describe the joy it brings me to see KI move closer to being a theme park. On a smaller note, one of my favorite personal moments this year was participating (and placing second in) the 50th anniversary art contest back in May. I don't typically do art for anything other than my own satisfaction, and it felt amazing to put the work in and see it pay off. Getting to participate in the signing event and meet park staff was one of the coolest things I've gotten to do at the park!
  11. You sure? I'll pay you $11,000!

  13. Ranking the ones I've been on... 1. Adventure Express 2. The Bat 3. Mystic Timbers 4. Racer 5. Flight of Fear 6. Backlot Stunt Coaster 7. Beast 8. Banshee 9. Orion 10. Vortex 11. Firehawk 12. Diamondback 13. Woodstock Express 14. Invertigo 15. Son of Beast 16. Scooby's Ghoster Coaster Flying Ace Aerial Chase and Great Pumpkin Coaster aren't ranked because they aren't bad rides, but they aren't really part of my KI visits ever.
  14. I can understand that. The difference between the front and back halves of Coney Mall was less pronounced pre-Kings Mills Antique Autos and arguably pre-WindSeeker, in my opinion. I really like the look of KMAA and the look of the Killmart building during the regular season, but when you toss in the removal of Vortex, it kinda makes that area feel half-finished and disconnected from the rest of Coney Mall. I would love to see something be done that brings the rest of that end (or Coney as a whole) into the vibe that KMAA and Killmart have.
  15. Listen, Kings Island. You might be new around these parts, but there's this little thing we like to call the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not mess with Adventure Express, or now you will pay. ...And I think I have a lot of faith that Adventure Express is going to be in top shape next year. I'm over the moon about this. I can't wait for next year.
  16. ^ WAS it 2007? I really thought all the de-Paramounting happened for the 2008 season.
  17. Sigh. They just HAD to go and release an Adventure Express pin, didn't they... Now I have to buy one, you monsters.
  18. Agreed. I could be wrong, but wouldn't a park remove the lift chain before doing that kind of thing? I have to imagine that's storm damage. I like Grizzly a lot. I hope everyone was okay and they're able to get it repaired quickly.
  19. It has on multiple occasions. The time I'm familiar with was closing weekend 2014. It was like Haunt, but it very lightly snowed and some of the rides were closed.
  20. It was my assumption that we won't see anything from the Paramount years. That being said, if the park somehow comes through with some Tomb Raider: The Ride pins, I would absolutely die happy.
  21. Summarizing this thread: Orion13: Maybe our hinted roller [coaster]? BoddaH: Meh, old Haunt rock.
  22. Sounds like exactly the sort of thing you'd say if there was Mohr to this story.
  23. ^ Yep! Can confirm it was torn down before the start of the 2009 season. I started going to the park as an adult in 2008 and remember being curious about that theater... and then they tore it down the next year. EDIT: Just realized I already replied to this thread and was unsure about the Omnimax theater. Guess I had a moment of clarity?
  24. The annual retelling of the sinking of the S.S. Gator was one of my favorite traditions here for years. Where will you go to have a pedal boat sink in a lazy river with your family aboard now, @XGatorHead 8904?! This is one of those things that doesn't really affect me but I'm still sad to see it happen. I never went to The Beach since I'm not the biggest swimmer, but all the same, part of my experience of going to Kings Island for many years involved driving past The Beach and seeing people having fun.
