  1. Thanks for the pics - a love seeing things like this to provide some trips down memory lane! And Ty - wow, you are impressive!
  2. Reminds of the quote (not sure who gets credit for it) - "when all is said and done, more is said than done" And for some reason, I can't help but think of Mr. Hart, Mr. Workman, and Kentucky Kingdom as well.
  3. Since the 2010 season is over, is it now time to close this thread and create the Son of Beast 2011 Status thread in the Rumors forum
  4. Saw in person today. As you say, in addition to the baskets, there is lots of hose, equipment, and the trailer. There was also at least one other personnel boom lift parked beyond the end of the lift hill. In my opinion, even though the priming hadn't begun - I think the cleaning phase had begun (I'm wondering if there is more to it than just pressure washing). Might have to take some drives through the GWL parking lot this week!
  5. I just saw that. Ouch, that is late. Based upon the April crowds this year, I understand it, but am not happy about having to wait 6 full months.
  6. OR basket like attachments to raise people up to PAINT the track (please).
  7. Brown - thanks for the clarity. Perhaps if more of that had been included in your original reply, much of the debate could have been avoided.
  8. There are some absolutely unbelievable comments in that article. If there was so little financial risk - then a private bank would be lining up to give Hart the money. And just how many of those public officials who support the park reopening are willing to finance the bonds? I'm wondering if the park would have been open in 2010 if this deal had been offered to Six Flags? Wow, maybe Mr. Workman should have focused on keeping it open, rather than driving Six Flags away. It's almost always cheaper to keep what you have than have to get something new. Really - did he say this with a straight face?
  9. I find it very hard to choose between Montu at BGT and Silver Bullet at Knott's. I gave the edge to Silver Bullet in voting because it has a really cool corkscrew element (although it could be it was my most recent one also!) Raptor while still awesome (it is a B&M invert after all) is a distant third and there are many on the list I want to test!
  10. Do you mean the same as it used to be for the last 4 years that it has been owned by Cedar Fair? Why would something change now?
  11. I thought I saw you at the park today - I guess this answers that question. Now if you tell me you didn't ride RFYLCB, then I guess I'll have to believe you have a twin out there somewhere.
  12. I'd love to see Kings Island get a B&M Invert like the Batman clones one day. Written just in case Terpy's vision is correct.
  13. Robbie - from your professional or theme park experience any idea how far from the expected ride location they'd take soil core samples to help design a foundation for a ride like WindSeeker? I know in my experience (warehouse type buildings), we've sampled a grid 50-100' from the building edge. Just wondering how things change as you go so much higher and to much more of a point load.
  14. I'm guessing it has more to do with how Kings Island itself functions than with Kings Island being treated differently by others. When you look at recent history, Kings Island hasn't exactly been fast in sharing information relative to other parks (and for those that I'm sure will ask for examples): New name for Boo Blasters Confirmation of Planet Snoopy and ride name announcement WindSeeker announcement teasers/hype Website update The only thing we seem to get first are the higher food and beverage pricing
  15. Having vacationed at Legoland California this year, I can guarantee that when open, we'll drive to this park when we next visit Orlando or Tampa.
  16. Terpy - are you sure that this is the same Apollo? I thought that Apollo Global Management agm.com was the company looking to purchase Cedar Fair. The reference article/stock seems to be Apollo Group apollogrp.edu and their subsidiary Apollo Global apolloglobal.us. I have been unable to find any link (except the similar name).
  17. While I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for Mr. Kinzel, from the article (I know, based on the lawsuit so only one side of the story) there does also seem to be some interesting dealings associated with this transaction Sold FUN units at a "historical low" unit price Sold to "BlackRock, a Merrill Lynch subsidiary" They then sold them "only weeks later at an enormous profit" Is this lawsuit another example of the operations guy at work?
  18. The "skill" in age, weight, or date comes from choosing which of the three you'll have the person guess
  19. Having finally watched the Great Wolf Lodge "Undercover Boss" episode last night (I love DVR!), wasn't it interesting that she worked in the restaurant at the Mason GWL and said something along the lines of 'there are plenty of good restaurant alternatives around this location and we need to ensure we keep people inside to eat'
  20. The number that flashes on the screen when they scan your pass is the number of times that pass has been used to enter KI - so if you did not get a new card this year, the number is the total number of scans in '09 and '10.
  21. I would claim that the TG treatment should nullify records for Wooden Coasters. Steel track = Steel coaster IMO.
  22. I'm not suggesting that Haunt should be canceled or people should be fired - I think the original poster is over the top. I do, however, think that there are some things that could be done to make the event friendlier to more guests. I am not a big haunt person myself (went through my first maze this year - laughed at most of it), but do enjoy going for late night, cool weather, rides - and have been on multiple Friday nights this year. In fact, I think the slightly different atmosphere of haunt and the fog machines add an element to some of the rides. My opinion, however, is that the event could be improved with the following changes: Reduce the fog in certain areas (maybe have a "fog-free" side of International Street for example) Better covering of some displays during non-haunt hours (when taking my 4-year old to Shake, Rattle, & Roll I had to explain the display in front of BLSC) More variety in the types of scares and displays (everything seems to be be blood and guts, skeletons, coffins, and tombstones) Two thoughts on these comments 1. Someone is either naive, not looking, or defending everything. I've seen many of both, but 2. I think security has been very visible and active this year. I haven't seen a problem (Haunt related - I'll exclude smoking and line jumping as they aren't dealt with during the regular season either) that hasn't been dealt with well
  23. Quotes from the article Terpy linked: "An automated restraint system presses against the rider’s lower back, providing little support for the shoulders and neck." I guess I'm not sure why a ride that, when operating normally, "reaches a height of 44 feet and a speed of 38 miles per hour" would need support for shoulders and neck.
  24. Someone should ask the 5@5 ... And Jackson, SoB is hardly in the "back of the park"
  25. Like some others have said, I'd like to see another ride that the whole family could ride together. To some of us, things now actually seem more like they used to be than you might realize.
