I was thinking about this earlier this season and was guessing that this has to be a legacy issue, but also one that is not easy to undo in a financially attractive fashion for CF. Imagine how the two scenarios would play out at CP and KI. No Gold Pass at KI. Current KI Gold Pass member would have to drop to Season or upgrade to Platinum. How many would just walk away or if a family buy one platinum (for parking) and rest just the regular pass? Would this increase revenue or decrease it? Add Gold Pass to CP. Current CP Platinum Pass holder could drop to Gold. Would this increase revenue or decrease it? To standardize, I think they'd have to do it with a significant re-shuffling of pricing and benefits.

I think it has left a bitter taste in his. As it would mine also. On the pass deal - while I like it, I have to wonder whether it is a good deal from a business sense? Getting guaranteed $ is good, getting $ early is good, but at what cost? How many Platinum Pass upgrades do they miss out on (I'm assuming like last year that the PP is not discounted), how many Gold Pass customers really need this incentive to renew?

I may be in the minority, but when I think about what I consider excellence in theme - I'm not drawn to good ride themes, I enjoy good area/park theme. Not saying that ride theme can't be good, it's just not enough on it's own for me - and a well themed ride that is out of place can be detrimental.

The first coaster I think I recall riding was Space Mountain at WDW when I was 5. I was probably 9 or 10 when I rode my second which would have been Beastie.

Just a question - how often has CF/KI done what you consider "right" and "correct". Maybe that tells us where it is going?

DeLorean - you make a great point. The key thing for Cedar Fair to realize is, it is often the former 15 year old kids who become parents and are some of the first to bring their families back to the park, buy Season Passes for 4, spend money on food in the park, buy the t-shirts and play the games. I know many parents with kids the same age as mine who come once a year. Trying being an often visiting season pass holder with young kids and getting out without buying something. As a business, they need to balance the short term and long term. Edit (to add a response to the post by GYK). What made KI a magical place to me as a kid is also no longer the same, and yes, this makes me sad. But with my kids, I'm learning that the place still holds the magic - its just different. It is going to change, the key is to ensure it retains some magic for new and returning guests alike as it changes.

Sounds like you are well on your way - although there is something to be said for being an entertainment fan, an amusement park fan, or whatever other label you'd give yourself as well. Glad you had a good time and I hope you are able to try Diamondback soon. Thanks for sharing. You know, I'm still sitting here trying to guess why the guy took a picture of the garbage contents ...

Really, it's just math? Maybe that is why I began my post with "Math Time" And thank you for sharing your experience as a ride op - as stated, I didn't know the dispatch time. Stating that a good crew busting ass can dispatch up to 28 trains an hour (1008 riders) confirms the original contention that The Beast isn't "anywhere near capable of hitting those numbers" (1200 riders per hour) My belief on why has to do with what's changed on Beast over the years (block scheme, first lift hill speed, restraints). A higher number was likely possible previously. I could be wrong, but that's my guess. You are right, on Firehawk, if you drop a train into the gravity zone every minute, you could get to 1440 - close enough to the 1430 quoted on rcdb.com. The math works fine. Operationally, however, this doesn't work because it requires one train to be running the gravity portion of the course for the minute that the other train is on the lift. In reality, though, trains need to stop in the station to load and unload - and on Firehawk, the 'Raise - Unload - Load - Check - Lower' sequence is the limiting factor on ride throughput. Hence why a third train wouldn't help capacity as I've heard was determined somewhere along the way when it was x-flight.

My updated top-5 list in no particular order: Dimaondback Montu Silver Bullet Voyage Thunderhead What tops the list kind of depends upon what I'd want to ride at any given time.

I think that there are some very insightful points on the way we interact with others in these forums made in this topic, and would like to give credit to GYK182 for his ability to logically address the issue - I think we can all learn something from him. That said, I also understand why those that made a snarky remark did so. Unfortunately, Selective has not gotten off on the best footing with many members of this forum with his topics and that will lead to this kind of response to this kind of topic/post. But, I also recognize where markr is coming from with his hope that we could all be kinder to each other at times. I'll keep trying. One piece of advice from me - if you know that you and another poster constantly get into the same argument, try ignoring it next time. There are people on these forums that are on the opposite ends of personality/style spectrums - you are never going to see eye-to-eye. Finally - note that Terpy did input to this thread in post #14.

In my opinion whatever Foundation existed for Flight Commander is likely unable to support the structure for WindSeeker. That means that it would have to be removed and redone completely. The cheaper option is probably to put it somewhere else - what would be the benefit of using the old spot if it causes an attraction to be removed and costs more?

I'd have to pick 5 from the following 10, but got a little sad trying to decide. Bayern Curve Der Spinning Keggers Flying Eagles Enchanted Voyage KCKC Both sets of Tiques Rotor Skylab Wheel of Fortune Lion Country Safari Monorail

Pretty sure that 301 feet will be the height of the very top of the tower. Actual ride height will be lower just like Drop Tower and even Eiffel Tower. If I remember correctly both are advertised as about 315' tall, but on ET the top platform is described as the 280' level and Drop Tower drops from less than 300'. On the WindSeeker page, it is described as "a 301-foot-tall tower that will spin riders 30 stories above the park"

Math time. RCDB quoted Beast Capacity: 1200 riders per hour Full Train: 36 people Trains per Hour to hit 1200 riders: 33.33 trains (1200/36) Dispatch Speed to achieve 33.33 trains per hour: 1.8 minutes between trains (60/33.33) Ride Length: 4 minutes and 50 seconds according to the spiel (4 minutes and 10 seconds according to rcdb) The current block scheme seems to always ensure that there is a train unloading/loading when the prior train stops (and waits) in the final brake run, meaning that at best trains dispatch about every 2.5 minutes At 2.5 minute dispatches, capacity is 864 riders per hour At 3.0 minutes dispatches, capacity is 720 riders per hour Someone probably knows what the average dispatch time is - I don't claim to. As an FYI On Firehawk - if the ride time is really 2min-10sec (again, I don't know), and they had a train constantly "on-ride", capacity would be ~672 riders per hour (60 / 2.1 = ~28 * 24). Definitely not 1430, which also is not possible even with a theoretical 3 train system. And yes, I'll admit to being an Engineering type geek

I almost hate to respond and continue this thread, but have 44" and 48" riding partners who love the rides they are allowed on and feel the need to comment on a few things: - On BLSC: "have their head thrown against that piece of hard plastic that has the two screws" Seriously? They could also trip and fall on the concrete climbing in and out, bang their elbow on the side of the car, or get their chin slammed into the lap bar when the ride stops. Maybe we should put in a soft floor, full car padding, and HANS devices for everyone to wear to avoid whiplash. Either that or follow the rules and enjoy the ride. - On Surf Dog: "making it extremely easy to fall out" No, it is not easy to fall out. You could ride this ride without a lap bar and you'd stay in (same with Viking Fury). It might make it possible for someone who wasn't following the rules to climb out - but that would be their stupidity. Could these rides be made more safe - maybe, BUT they are safe as is. In fact, some people might argue that some rides used to be just as safe and more fun. I'd point to Racer with buzzbars, no headrest, no seat divider, lesser height requirement, and other changes I can't think of and don't know about as an example.

I've been wondering if, given the other changes at that end of Coney Mall, that there might be changes to the theater. While the kids still like the SpongeBob show, I wouldn't mind seeing something new. And depending upon where the queue/ride for WindSeeker end up, there may need to be modifications to the Theater entrance/exit.

While work may seem to occur very quickly, I guarantee that there is a significant amount of effort behind the site work and construction of this thing that will cost a lot of money. The foundation of a 300' tall tower that has no lateral structural support (it looks to basically be a straight tube), that has to stand up to high winds and support a ride spinning at the top will be quite significant. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the site work and installation cost is half to two-thirds of the total investment.

Let's see - None have been built before and now four are being purchased and installed at the same time - According to one source, original design intent was 65m and 50 passengers, yet CF is installing ones that are >300' and 64 passengers Concept wise, it's not rocket science so eventually it will be ok, however I've got concerns about the first few months.

Count me in the looking forward to trying it out category - although I don't like riding the swings, I'm hoping that the solid arms of this one give me a better feeling of security. A few other thoughts: - Those that are complaining. Remember that several people on these forums felt I-305 didn't look too exciting either. Please wait, try it, and then pass judgment. - Those concerned about the same rides at both KI and CP. Do you ride both Delirium and Maxair? - Location. I'm thinking you might get some good/new views of The Beast out back into the woods from this ride. Have to wait and see, but it should be a unique look. - Coney Mall. Please KI give it some love as you install this like you did Rivertown and Planet Snoopy.

CW lists 32 two person chairs and a 301 ft height. - Fits the description for height by Don (and Knotts) - Seems like it could be fine from a capacity standpoint at 64 riders per ride (more than Delerium and Drop Tower isn't it?)
-
Sorry - double post.
-
The key word there is "theoretical" (although that is not how RCDB.com states it). Neither Firehawk or Beast is anywhere near capable of hitting those numbers.
-
I'll defer judgment on the thrilling nature of the ride until I know what it is and have ridden it. The simultaneous announcements does tend to indicate a common ride across the various parks. The Star Flyer article does point to Wind Seekers for some parks although potentially not CP based upon the clues (I know I just contradicted myself). It is going to be an interesting wait until we know for sure what this is (thank goodness it's only a day) I'm surprised Super Fan doesn't know, I'm guessing some on these forums (there are a couple of folks who have been inactive in this thread) do. I hope that Coney Mall gets a little makeover along with the new ride. While I'd like to see a couple of family flats as well, I'll settle for a "sprucing" up like Planet Snoopy got.

Congrats - it can be a truly special time riding with your kids anywhere, but it is extra sweet when it's the big rides.

It was definitely there and is definitely fixed now. I think we can say case closed.
