Quote from 'Gordon Bombay' in TPR - Geauga Lake Thread (emphasis added) "Hi. I'm new here. Let me explain why I registered. The .org website came across on my facebook newsfeed from some friends who "liked" it. I went to it. Read the updates. Saw the reports of the ".com" website scam and read about the audacity and gaul of TPR. Went to the .com website... ...absolutely lost it when I clicked the about page and the midi version of "everybody dance now" came on. I'm not kidding, absolutely burst out laughing, plus the dancing cats were a nice touch. I just wanted it to be known how much I enjoyed coming across it. SAVE T3H D1PP3R!" Now, maybe someone else from Cincinnati registered under your KIC screen name and posted this (if so, I'll apologize in advance), but to me this shows support for his activities, not critique of him being a jerk. If I was Kat, I'd be disappointed in my friend for signing up and posting this. That said, I'll defend your right to find the parody site funny - personally I didn't. I also don't buy the current "we actually helped" postings by Wes and Robb - that was never their intent, so they shouldn't start acting righteous now. What I think is truly sad, though, is that coaster/theme park enthusiasts who loudly and often proclaim themselves as having "industry expertise" couldn't find a better way to provide help and assist people who they claimed were "in over their heads". Kat and her partner may well be in over their heads (I'm not an expert, but it seems like a daunting challenge to say the least). If you aren't really trying to help, do nothing. I hope that there are others with expertise who are stepping up to the plate to help in a productive fashion to make this project a success. -
I'd agree with this - but would also go a step further and say It seemed as though there might also have been less tolerance for issues as well since I've seen multiple people being escorted toward the front of the park by Security this Haunt. Note I'm not making any correlation to this and HPB as some were the first weekend.

If you think the KI fireworks show is a waste, then question whether you are the target audience. A few trips a year, my kids get the privilege of staying and watching the fireworks (birthday trip, they've been especially good). These are the days they look forward too and enjoy the most. For a nightly show, I think it is pretty darn good. As Ryan said - just because it's not your cup of tea, don't act like it's not an important part of the park. Someone made that choice about Tiques, Eagles, KCKC, etc...

But, it is quite simple, you see. Mr. Kinzel has a plan: *It's that simple. Makes you wonder what they've been doing up until now, now doesn't it? * http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9ILJ90G1.htm Maybe I'm not sufficiently understanding, but growing revenue by 10% over 5 years and EBIDTA by the same amount does not seem the kind of unit price increasing growth I'd have thought the major/institutional investors in this company would want. 2.3% a year growth with major risk plus a small distribution - I'm not seeing the value equation.

Favorite Disney Park: U.S. Only
KIfan1980 replied to coaster_junky's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Couldn't actually vote for a couple of reasons - I've been to all 4 WDW and Disneyland, but not California Adventure and the favorite park is just impossible to answer as it all depends upon what I am looking to do on a given day. I love the fact that at WDW, there is such a variety of options and it is a great place to spend several days. -
Earthquake Near KD, No Damage
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Just my opinion, but there should be a threshold that a "quake" has to achieve to be called an earthquake - below that call it a tremor or something. -
Ok - so I saw a status update as I was walking past Festhaus on my way out last night that a few of my friends were watching the show so I went in to say hi. Here were my impressions of the limited time I was there: - Crowd was normal HH crowd - There was a ton of KI leadership/security in the building watching the show - The crowd was not really getting into the show (more laughter than cheering) - Crowd was big, although $10 seats were empty - I did not find it funny or entertaining, but am not the target audience It will probably be viewed as a success based upon attendance, but I still think it was a bad choice for the park.

Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, Now What?
KIfan1980 replied to PREMiERdrum's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
A person who used to post here frequently posted the following as her Facebook Status today: "It's official and I've been cleared to announce it. THE BIG DIPPER HAS BEEN SAVED!" I trust the person, but have no other data - a follow-up response said details are forthcoming. -
I love Voyage and would rank it as my favorite coaster (for one or two rides), but would have to go with Raven for a ride-all-day coaster. Legend was good also, but not on par with either of the others in my opinion. Favorite elements would be: Voyage: Airtime on the second drop, spaghetti bowl turnaround, triple down, station fly-by and ending (ok - so I know I described over the half the ride) Raven: I forget what drop number it is, but the one after the left turn above the maintenance road.

Flyin Phil Flies Over GAd Again
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I love aerial photography! Green Lantern location relative to the staging area should make for a fairly easy install I'd think. -
Beatle - as mentioned earlier, I sat through GGW and thought the singing was pretty good and the show was fun. Then again - I have very little ear for music. Kirk - thanks for sharing your love of Entertainment here I doubt I'd have gone to the show last night if not for your post.

Also the cool, crisp air as you ride makes for an enjoyable time! Have fun - the kids will love it. Mine especially love riding in their costumes. Pictures of the younger in his race car drivers costume while driving the Dodgems are awesome.

Most/All of the coasters and some of the flats are open. It tends to be a good time to go and ride (DB main queue was 5-10 min all night last night.

While not speaking directly to the Six Flags scenario, I actually beleive that cutting out layers of management can be a good thing. What is critical to do, however, is make sure that this pushes both the Responsibility AND Accountability down to the right level and get real clear about who owns what. If done correctly, it can be empowering for the employee, can simplify things (like decision making), and be a positive for company and customer.

OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010
KIfan1980 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Someone I'm sure will have a picture, but got to say I enjoyed the Haunt prop visible from The Beast queue. Tombstone with something along the lines of RIP My Beloved Son on it. -
Hope you had fun - decided to catch the 11pm GGW show tonight. Thought the show was very well done - fun and good singing - an enjoyable experience.

I havent heard of SF offering free parking for 2011 Also, if I was you I'd hope that that is the reason they closed the park. You see the other option is that a leaner, low debt, Six Flags decided that there is not a sustainable business model for KK - that doesn't bode well for the single park, high debt, government run proposal.

Mean Streak Catches Fire, Is Doused
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
While I know you weren't really saying it was a ton (measure of weight) of wood - your comment did make me want to calculate how much the wood actually weighs. My calculation shows: 4000 cubic meters at 660 kg/cubic meter (~ southern yellow pine density) = 2,640,000 Kg = 5,820,204 Lbs = 2,910 tons. I guess that explains why there are so many footings supporting the ride. End /unnecessary geek effort -
You make a great point that this tourist attraction is beneficial to the state - bringing jobs, visitors, $'s to the area. It's too bad the State Fair Board Chairman didn't recognize this when he refused to re-negotiate the lease with Six Flags. Sure seems to me as if that would have been the better solution for the state.

Having been to many football games, I'm willing to take the over on your # of drunks bet - maybe only 1% are obviously drunk (belligerent, trouble walking, etc...), but many more are "over the limit". I can also point to many cases from personal experience where drunks have caused problems (from intimidation to scuffles to full blown fights) at these events. My opinion: Alcohol + Intense atmosphere = higher likelihood of trouble. I also believe that with the right security presence (I'd be interested to know whether there is additional "event security" for HPB beyond the normal KI security), they should be able to keep control.

Rivertown LaRosa's - so I can eat a good slice of Pizza, and watch DB Splashdown with my little boy. Anything in Festhaus - if there is a show going on (that doesn't include Blood).

Timberliners?
KIfan1980 replied to thunderbeast1968's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
can't forget the AND ... one existing coaster which is going to run timberliners. -
Timberliners?
KIfan1980 replied to thunderbeast1968's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The funny thing is prior to the edit I thought Terpy was being accurate here - Thunderbeast1968 was not getting it (the other answer to his question), and the picture is not fake (it is a real computer generated picture of the ride, just not a photograph). Sometimes I guess I read way too much into your posts - I thought you were just having a little fun with TB1968 -
Timberliners?
KIfan1980 replied to thunderbeast1968's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The pictures look like computer generated renderings. Not photographs. -
Remembered I said this back when the composite layout was first seen. Now, seeing the teaser clips, I'd say: - This ride is starting to scream excitement (Maverick type turns low to the ground through this terrain at BGT - yeah, that's exciting - Input for the next marketing department - release the teaser clips first, then the layout. Layouts just don't do a ride justice
