Kid's first roller coaster ride....
KIfan1980 replied to shark6495's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Two thoughts that crossed my mind: - Poor kid ... he had to wait until he was that old and over 48" to ride a roller coaster! - Lucky kid ... wouldn't it be kind of cool to be able to say that your first coaster was over 200' -
Yes, Yes, and Yes - the final turn before the second lift is awesome

So many people to agree with. Do things frustrate me about KI - yep, but I try to never let it ruin my day and it can't stop me from having fun. What makes my KI trip awesome/what's my favorite thing - no single answer cuts it for me, it all depends. I'll list some of my favorite items from this year: First Ride on Diamondback Opening Day Riding Flight Deck/AE/Racer/BLSC with my older son when he got his first 48" wrist band Going up the Eiffel Tower at night for the first time in years Seeing my younger son graduate from Little Bills to Fairly Odd Coaster Watching Shows on Dollar General Day First Delirium Ride ever Meeting up with KIC'ers People watching, ride watching, just relaxing at the park Waiting at the Detectors for Diamondback ERT and meeting/riding with some fun people Getting a picture of my Son and Parents coming down the drop on FOC Riding the train Skyflyer with pkiboy and beast1979 Midnight rides on Beast Watching the fireworks with both my kids The only things in common for all of these are the smile they put on my face (even typing them right now).

Planet Snoopy (bringing your children?) in 2010.

Planet Snoopy (bringing your children?) in 2010.

I am seriously thinking of turning you in to The Department of Children and Family Services. I probably shouldn't mention some of the stuff my 6 year old does like to watch or you'd really be calling - the boy watches more Football (of the American and real variety) and NASCAR races than some would consider healthy. -
So this comes down to Racer and Flight Deck for me and is so hard to choose because they are such different rides. Finally chose to go with Racer: Wooden, Longer, Airtime, History, Better Location Still love Flight Deck as well, am learning to enjoy BLSC more, enjoy FOC, not a fan of AE, don't consider Avatar to be a Coaster. At least, that is my opinion as of 11:30ish Today - subject to change as fast as I change favorite seats on Diamondback.

My Opinion on the Future of Cedar Fair
KIfan1980 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
DB FOF - that was at least a nickel, maybe a dime's worth Terpy - thanks for bringing this thread back up. Good topic. My opinions: Guest Experience: KI is doing a pretty good job at this, as someone else mentioned - the KI of 2009 reminds me more and more of my "good memories" from the 80's (and not just due to the shows!). Its cleaner, associates are more friendly, and it has some excitement again. GP/PP Incentive Program: KI is getting more of my $ where they offer incentives (a few games, a few pictures), but is totally missing on the food for multiple reasons - lack of incentives, quality, healthy options, accurate data for those with food allergies. I agree with those that indicate a much higher spend IF KI would give some of a deal for passholders Entertainment: I watch more shows now than ever - I say keep up the good work. Oh, and they should totally put Peanut on the payroll! The number of people watching/cheering her at ISBandstand on Friday night before the last show was incredible. My boys stopped and wanted to dance as well - and both mentioned it as something they liked to me the next day. Security: I think the impression of security is fine - I'd like to see a harder line taken on some offenses. Line Jumping is not a sporting event at KI and (should be) cause for removal from the park Quality: Could still be improved. -
Rotag - as usual, a great TR - The way you tell a story is awesome! and XGatorHead is correct, KIfan1980 is me (Keith). I enjoyed riding/hanging with y'all for a while on Sunday morning and would have liked to have stayed around longer, but had to meet up with the family at BB, where we had an awesome afternoon. I then brought the boys back to the dry park after dinner, and ended the evening with the KI Fireworks show and two very tired kids (can't quite imagine taking them down to the river just yet!)

Planet Snoopy (bringing your children?) in 2010.
KIfan1980 replied to CrashOverRided's topic in Kings Island
We, me along with my 3 and 6 year old, will be there as much is 2010 as we were in 2009 and 2008 - Planet Snoopy will make no difference. Will I have to explain why the rides have new names? Yes. Will it matter? No. The kids have never seen Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, Little Bill, Scooby, Jimmy Neutron, Avatar - but love the rides. They watch some Nick shows (Backyardigans, Dora, Diego) but this doesn't cause them to want to ride these rides as much. -
Could SFKK's Chang be in danger?
KIfan1980 replied to a topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
TTD - I'm going to try and be helpful and constructive. If you want your opinions to be heard and your jokes to be taken as such on this site, you will need to build up a little credibility first (via content of your posts not number of your posts). Unfortunately, your first 100+ posts have come across as intentionally argumentative, poor jokes, and/or not adding to the topic by many of the other users. This has caused many to label you as a troll (both in writing and in their minds). If you want to be argumentative and get people to yell at you - I'd politetly request you to do it somewhere else. If you want to be a valued member of the forums - I'd suggest you slow down on the jokes, stop and think before you press the "Add Reply" button, and only do so when your response adds to the conversation. -
Maybe Kings Island is planning either a soft removal or soft retrofit of Son of Beast since they are so fond of actually making public announcements about anything. I guess we are also in the process of a soft transition to Planet Snoopy

Yep, in fact, his original name was "Dippy Dawg" I figured out that Goofy was a dog when we were at Disney back in Feb. You see, both of my kids would jump out of their seats at every character meal for pictures with Mickey, Minney, Donald, and every other character except Pluto and Goofy (thats why I got my picture with Goofy). My wife and I were stumped until suddenly we remembered that they are both seriously afraid of dogs - after realizing that, it made sense (somewhat at least).

Here's a crazy idea - we could just wait and see what happens. Seriously, nothing is going to convince many people one way or the other that KI has made a decision to tear it down, rebuild it, or do nothing with it at least until some effort around that activity begins - if then. Here is my prediction - at some point this offseason, work will begin to occur at SoB site and we'll be sitting here debating whether it is demolition, reconstruction, or analysis to help make a decision because KI will still not be sharing information broadly. Future Post in this thread "I saw a dumpster with SoB wood in it, I told you they were tearing it down" Response 1 "No, that is wood from the Rose Bowl where they are going to replace the weak wood with Steel supports or stronger wood" Response 2 "I hope not, they should tear it down, its a waste of money" Response 3 "Why, I love SoB, I hope they are saving it and reinstalling the Loop" And yes, I know, I shouldn't complain because I'll still be reading it

Stalkers Lazy Midd Summer Scream... sortof
KIfan1980 replied to StalkerChick's topic in Trip Reports
Yeah, had that same experience most of the morning when I was riding with Jackson and Adam. This is cool to know - I've seen Peanut dancing before and during shows before (and to the music at the IS bandstand even when no show is anywhere near to occuring). Glad to know its a KIC'ers kid having fun and entertaining the crowd! -
My 7 y/o niece got to experience KI through a big kid's eyes!
KIfan1980 replied to Cortney's topic in Trip Reports
Glad you enjoyed it. I well remember the day not too long ago that my son got his first 48" wrist band - cool experience. He is yet to ride Vortex and Beast though - I'm concerned about the forces on a just turned 6 year old, although he loves Racer, Flight Deck, and "Mini Cooper Coaster" - which I think is a much better name than BLSC! -
Where? did this quote come from? What is the source? http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...ic=19436&hl

TombraiderTy - knowing where each of the weather vanes in the park are located is not obsessive at all. Having a picture of them all, though ...

Most people wouldn't mind eating Prime Rib instead of a McDonald's Double Cheeseburger, but what do they do if they only have $3? Terpy, just making an analogy... Not wanting to go hungry, I voted for the Peanuts gang.

This Diamondback POV could likely help you out. I believe (I'm sure someone here knows for sure) that the lift hill is ~45 seconds, so this likely begins about 40 seconds after the train leaves the station. You can get Diamondback stats at http://www.kiDiamondback.com/public/ride/statistics.cfm Here is a Beast POV that could also help. You can get Beast stats at http://www.rcdb.com/67.htm

The Sally contract likely gives them the rights to use Scooby's name on the ride, but doesn't require it. It is possible that the contract they are expected to have with the Peanuts gang also requires Scooby to be changed as well. No data, just speculating.

As a long time KI fan, I have to say that I have very mixed feelings on this and understand the passion that both sides of this discussion have (and appreciate the respect with which it has been carried out). My thoughts (as a kid who grew up with H-B Land at KI and who has kids who love Nick U): - In some ways, its sad as my kids really enjoy Nick U and some Nick Characters, so it just won't be the same (not necessarily better or worse, just not the same) next year. What's funny to me is that both boys love FOC but have no clue who the characters are, only started watching Dora after they saw the show last year, enjoy seeing sponge bob but don't like to watch him on TV, and enjoy watching the Backyardigans but don't often run up to these characters or ride the swings. - I also respect CF for making what I assume is a good business decision. In this economy, I don't think they could afford to be stupid and pay an excessive amount for the licensing. What will be key is to see how they turn this into theming for the area next year to see if it is fun for the families. - Change is always hard - I miss H-B Land, King Cobra, Lion Country Safari, KCKC, etc... but in total like what KI has become. As giga said, I'm going to expect CF to do this right until proven wrong My guess is that the kids will have as much fun next year as they did this year and it won't be a big deal, but we'll have to wait and see. The bigger question for me is whether Scooby will really be gone - what will become the 2010 standard KIC meet up hysterical group picture location!
-
Rotag - thanks for the unique TR! Marathoning Scooby sounds like a lot of fun. Did you beat your score from earlier today?

I agree that this is a questionable move that could turn off many customers in a tough economic environment and would like to see it re-evaluated, but also understand that Haunt is a highly popular attraction that would likely make good money for the park as a separate price entry. Also, recognize that they are quoting the "Buy Later Summer Pricing" as $104.99. It is quite possible that like has happened previously, KI Gold Pass pricing will be $69.99 for renewals now and then work work its way up through the off-season/start of Summer. I know it was $84.99 for renewals at one point last year ($5 off the list $89.99) around this time, then climbed to $99.99 for a while. Not sure if it got to $104.99 or not.

I think the ride looks like it is going to be awesome and agree that the turnaround will be interesting with the slight right before the left hand turnaround. As for NO TRIMS - I went back and checked the Diamondback front seat annimation and the trim was clearly visible so I'm hopeful! I will be interested to see how the top of the second hill turn affects the ride/airtime. On DB, I love the turns at the bottom of the first and second drops, so will have to wait and see. Yep, looks like some good lateral g's on this one that Diamondback doesn't have.
