  1. And inside Guest Relations - on the right after you have your ticket scanned. Note that someone is always available to check height there which may not be true of the other two locations.
  2. I'd like to see this, but I think the real question is what would it cost and how would that investment benefit the park going forward versus investing those dollars elsewhere. Considering that Texas Giant is scheduled for a $10 Million "fix" in 2010, this leaves me wondering: How much more would it cost for SoB considering it is ~50% longer/taller than Texas Giant, there is no guarantee that the outcome is a far improved ride for a wooden hyper, and the ride has such a poor history that even a rebuild may not redeem it in many peoples eyes. I hope to ride SoB again, but I wouldn't be surprised if not.
  3. This is the second post I've read tonight that references casino's at amusement parks. I don't get the connection or the idea here? These two entertainment choices tend to attract two very different types of audiences. Family friendly and amusement parks didn't seem to help Las Vegas - why would Casino's help KI or HW?
  4. According to the food allergy information available at Guest Relations, it is called Bubba Gumps ... oh wait, the binder STILL says 2006 Food Allergy Information on the front!
  5. While I agree that KI won't be getting the record breakers (CF will want to keep Cedar Point as the flagship and major park in Ohio) - I think the rumored Giga at Kings Dominion points to the fact that if another CF park is going to get record breakers, it is likely to be KD as this park has competitive pressure from Six Flags and Busch relatively close.
  6. I completely agree on BOTH Diamondback and Reptar. On Diamondback, you've got to love the attitude when Keenan is on the microphone, although singling out one op isn't really fair as most of them like to have FUN and are doing a great job keeping things enjoyable for the guest while also getting the trains out quickly and safely. Reptar crew is also good at keeping kids and adults entertained. I recall when a large group from a kids baseball team was on the train, they had the station singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame when the train returned. And stop by GR and write up a good crew - if nothing else, seeing the surprise on the face of the GR associates when you ask for a comment card and they ask "what problem did you have" and you get to say "none". I sure hope the crews actually hear about these.
  7. In some ways I want to thank you for those links (your ability to search for old threads you know exist is wonderful and it is interesting reading). In other ways, I'm a little frustrated that I'll never get the answer I was looking for (there was no alignment to The Bat/recaR linkage there either - and posters I trust were on both sides of the discussion!)
  8. You mean we were lied to? And to think I passed that information along as "fact" as it obviously came from the park owners themselves. I agree that rcdb is a great source of information about facts for rollercoasters, but disagree with saying it is always accurate and updated. In my opinion, they lose credibility when the have obviously incorrect data posted on the site - such as the following data about KI coasters: - Beast: 4 min 10 second ride with capacity of 1200 pph - Firehawk: Capacity of 1430 pph - SOB: 2 min 20 second ride with capacity of 1600 pph - Flight Deck: Capacity of 1200 pph I'd love to know how information like this corrected...
  9. I've heard that The Racer was turned backwards in 1981, so it would probably be because The Bat was closed often. But I don't know. I'm not old enough. Oh, okay. I knew it was turned backwards because of problems with The Bat, and I just assumed it was because The Bat was demolished. Bat was added in 1981. Racer was turned Backward in 1982. Bat was removed in 1984. I've never before heard any link between The Bat and turning The Racer Backwards. It may still be true, but I've never heard any linkage before this.
  10. Rotag - sorry to hear the fall caused a more serious injury than thought on sunday. Heal quickly Enjoyed hanging out at Strickers.
  11. If the ride instructions indicated you must remain seated at all times, I believe it would be a violation of the law to stand even without the seatbelt. I like the Velcro option although it would be a bigger maintenance headache.
  12. Good for you. For those of you that aren't counting, only have a few because you like to ride lots of other things, or don't even want to ride it - that is your choice and don't let any of us who are counting make you feel bad about it. In my many years riding, I've never counted before but decided to on DB this year after meeting markr one day. I'm glad I did because I find it fun (and I'm doing it for me).
  13. ERT yesterday was awesome, I'd always skipped Saturday ERT thinking the crowds would be worse (wrong). Today was much more crowded, although I still managed to squeak 5 rides in before the mob arrived.
  14. rcfreak - thanks for posting what many have been thinking. Also thanks to those of you who added to this conversation and to BoddaH as an admin/mod for engaging on it quickly. And although I still consider myself a new guy around here from a posting standpoint, I was lurking for a long time prior and think this was/is/will continue to be an awesome place for KI and coaster enthusiasts to come have friendly conversations (with a little humor thrown in). Although one has to recognize that humor is always a risk as funny to one person may not be funny to all (especially across the generations that come to this site). This site has added to my enjoyment of KI this year and allowed me to meet some great people (including several I met today at KI/Strickers - where we had full trains of KIC'ers on Tornado and Teddy Bear, along with a KIC cycle on the Flying Scooters). I expect this kind of activity to continue and hope you (any of you who want to) can join for the next meet-up.
  15. He didn't call you a moderate, he called you a mod. If you are saying no to that, I guess that makes you a Rocker.
  16. Happy to hear you got your Diamondback ride! It is a great ride.
  17. I understand that the tournament is being held at a different venue. I just believe it is poor planning not to provide the associates at Guest Relations with some information related to the event. It isn't unexpected that someone might come in and ask following the promotion that the park did hold.
  18. I didn't expect real tennis, but expected a little more than what those pictures show. But, the poorest part of this event for me was what I overheard in Guest Relations. A guest came in and said something along the lines of "I saw a little of the tennis event today, do you have any information/details on the tournament that is going on this week?" Short answer was "no." I mean how do you do an event like this and NOT have a flyer or something in guest relations for the tournament. As the saying goes - Where Else?
  19. I think he did, he said they were riding together one weekend and were close, but she was away for a while and he took the lead. Agree completely about having FUN! As for riding with you, I did enjoy the front seat ride. I'd be willing to stand in line next to you anytime
  20. I find it kind of funny that Diamondback has 6 hills greater than 100' My vote goes to Racer.
  21. Bumping this thread - Had a good weekend (so far) with 7 rides last night between 8pm and Close and 13 rides this morning during ERT - including as close to a Zen ride as I think I'll get with only 6 of us on the first train of the day. Total = 89 But, the reason for the bump is some of the groups of people with high numbers I've got to ride with. On the Fireworks ride last night I was riding in row 2 and combined in that first car we had well over 1000 rides (guy named Gary with 660+, pkiboy ~290, me 76), then this morning I rode with several folks who are also well into the 100's: Darlene, Karen, markr, Gary again, a guy I'll call Tie Dye J (if you've seen his first rider t-shirts, you know who I mean). I've got to say one of the best things about Diamondback (beside the airtime) is meeting some neat people with a love of roller coasters.
  22. He'd have to fight at least one other member (#4155) of KIC who gives Diamondback lift hill supports big hugs - I remember a picture in a PTR somewhere but couldn't find it
  23. I'm thinking if they can build a vert ramp, they can build a platform to play tennis on.
  24. Serious question here - while the track does look similar (color), there is also a difference that confuses me. The spine for the track at Carowinds looks to have a flanged I-beam structure versus a box structure on the B&M "factory" photos. Does Diamondback have any spine that isn't box beams (I can't remember any, but may be wrong)? Not saying it isn't B&M and isn't the same track, just confused by the difference.
  25. There are? Where - I can't seem to find them
