Adding a third train to Firehawk may be possible, as it was originally delivered with 3 from what I understand. The benefit of doing so would be nothing as it already stacks with two trains.

At Kings Island, I'd use better steel in the manufacturing of King Cobra (assuming reports I've heard are accurate) For fun at another park - I'd install the second half of Tennessee Tornado

Google Maps shows it as a continuation of Columbia Road, so yes, that is where you turn.

There are actually a few people who used to/sometimes still do participate on KIC that will be at Dorney - DaveStroem, KICoastergirl, and MF2000CMH - Dave and family (wife & 2 girls), along with Chris are very nice people so find them and say hi.

Great Old Amusement Parks on TV tonight
KIfan1980 replied to HHauntFanatic's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Just finished watching this show tonight - what an interesting documentary that highlighted some neat parks and shared lots of fun information - fascinating! And for those of you coasting for kids - you have nothing on the contestants from a radio station contest, 5 of whom rode the Belmont Park Giant Dipper constantly for 70 days (they also slept in the coaster!) trying to win $50,000 For those wondering, it's on PBS as follows in the Cincy area: Channel 48: Sat at 4am, Sun at 11pm, Mon at 5am -
Wow - wish I could be there if only to hear y'all singing. I wonder if Red Racer ridership will be greater than normal on Sunday!

I have to wonder is Bullying that much more prevalent in today's world, just done differently via the digital medium, or just more understood and reported. As a parent, the issue is concerning yet hard to understand.

Where exactly did you see flat "hate" in this thread? As for the concrete work - it is possible that a footing may have a problem, but likely not due to a concrete problem, but a problem with the soil underneath. Recall on WindSeeker, they buried piles (which are a foundation element that transfers load down to bedrock usually). I'd doubt that piles were used under every footing (I don't know, I'm guessing some might, but all don't), which means the footings sit on compacted soil which was expected to be suitable for the loads. If something happened and that soil settled or was undercut by something like water, a repair might be necessary - they could be repouring a footing or the equivalent of slab-jacking a footing by pumping concrete into a void.

Brad - so glad that you (and Kim) got to enjoy some first 48" rides with Korbin. It I a wonderful feeling that you will not forget! Although you have now entered the stage where he may want to avoid Planet Snoopy (which will get tough with Kaylee) on future visits to KI.

Just to note, those were the rides we grew up on because there were only a few coasters and no super sized flats. Imagine If only Beast, Woodstock Express, Racer, and Flight Deck were open - that used to be the extent of the high thrill rides. As for adding some of them back, I'd love it - but take a look around now. Are you seeing anyone say, wow DB, Invertigo, Delirium, and WS were down, and I thought my day would suck until I re-found Zephyr, Monster, Viking Fury, Shake Rattle & Roll, and the grand Carousel? Obviously this kind of ride just isn't good enough for y'all any more.

I love some of his claims, like: - he came up with $29 million of financing to reopen and the state came up with nothing; although he clearly notes that $23 million of that was secured by state owned land (which he includes in the losses by the state if BB fails). You can't have it both ways! - state issued bonds would return $10 million per year on a $2 million investment. Really - id love to see the math/investment prospective on that because that almost seems to good to be true. Oh wait, in that case it probably is.

While checking Facebook or KIC is not common, checking a website is and the KI website clearly notes that Diamondback is down this week. The park has been very forthcoming with this info in my opinion.

I prefer the white - let them use the Red and Blue on The Racer!

Based upon recent history, it looks to me like starting a park from scratch is not economically feasible in today's world. Taking over an existing idle park like KK may be one of the last opportunities to enter a new market. Unfortunately, it seems like even that may be a mon starter based upon the current state of the park. One wonders what the end game for the State Fair Board is at this point - I've asked before about whether in hindsight they wish they'd renegotiated the lease with Six Flags during the bankruptcy. I also wonder what the current backup plan is for them? If the BB group (that the fair board apparently pursues after the hart deal fell apart) walks, what options remain for the group that is losing money year on year and sitting on an unused asset?

Sorry you didn't have a good day - I can understand your frustration at not being able to ride some of the major rides. That said, as you listed, there was a large number of major rides open and still lots of fun available to be had at the park - it seems like you had an "ain't it bad" attitude versus an "I'll have fun despite" attitude and that attitude dominated your day/thoughts. I went to the park Friday night - rode nothing, but had a great time, but then again I knew I was going to.

Ed Alonzo’s Psycho Circus- Magic and Mayhem
KIfan1980 replied to TylerRider's topic in Kings Island
Seriously folks - stop feeding the troll. Soak City obviously has an issue with the Ed show for some reason. Ignore his whining and it'll eventually dry up. Btw - nice to see some posting by Uncle Henry again. Hopefully, you will also join in a positive way in some other discussions. -
I think an all glass modern entrance would look completely out of place, but I guess it's ok for us to disagree.

I love how we can turn shades of gray issues into black and white discussions on these forums I know I've encountered (and assume others have also) good, safe, and efficient ride ops who for the most part help get trains out fast, but every now and then get tripped up by the slow/non listening guest. But also, I have also run into what seems like a constantly distractracted, slow, and low energy ride op, who while safe doesn't seem to worry about dispatch speed. Both exist - my reco is to praise the good ones at GR and not let the other ruin your day at an amusement park.

He took much more than the land across the Interstate. Do a property search for Great American on the Warren County auditors website and you'd be amazed at what they still own to this day!

When in line once, I asked about a device on the outside of the tower (queue side) that I was told was part of the manual lowering system. I'm sure someone has a picture that shows it, but as I understand it is like a set of chainfalls that would allow the gondola to be lowered by hand in the event of a problem.

Orig-Emp: even though the gluten issues with my family are not an anaphylactic risk, we do carry the epi-pen due to other (tree nut) allergies. Our goal, though, is to not have to use it and to avoid causing our son to get sick via gluten consumption. Jbum: FYI, even though the fries are described as GF at Rivertown Potato Works, this is one of the areas we don't trust, so we do NOT buy them. Last time we checked we were told that the fries are cooked in the same fryers (cross contaminated oil) as the chicken bites and fries shrimp (which are both breaded - a gluten containing coating)

Yesterday I was quite impressed with the dispatch frequency - almost every time the departing train was well up the lift when the prior one was coming in for splashdown. That is what I look for as good operation. If splashdown has occurred and the train is just leaving the station, then it is too slow.

So true. I guess, however we can look on the bright side here - there is/was obviously an issue when DB first went down and the park looks to have found a way to get it back up and running safely short term (likely while awaiting a part) and then scheduled it down to complete the fix at a time when it would cause the least disruption (a Mon-Fri). My guess is this is a better choice than waiting for the short term solution to fail to make the fix as that could be July 4th or a Saturday in June/July. Its also possible that the fix requires manufacturers representatives which often need scheduling in advance. Edit to add - its been reported that WindSeeker, Delerium, and Surf Dog are all operating - I saw Firehawk running last night also. Invertigo was still not operating last night.
