  1. 48" to ride a swinging ship? must be one hell of a kick to it.... why would Kings Islands (twice the size) only require a rider to be 40" with an adult, while coney's is 48"??
  2. so robbie is really jumping over 24 Coke zero TRUCK CABS.... from what i can see not to take anything away fron the guy, cause it is certainly nothing i would ever dream of doing.... however, the cab of a semi sits a good 2 ft. lower than the trailer of the truck.... with the advertising, i would be expecting him to jump the top point of the 24 trucks... not a lower point... ya know? i would expect him to jump the trailer, not the cab... unfortunately i am unable to attend, due to work conflicts, however i would love to be there to see this...
  3. when i was a teen, and we were in the park on crowded days, we would talk to ourselves for a few minutes, and then scream out a "hey (insert popular name)" and see who turned around. Haha if they were close enough, we would start a conversation and see if we could get them to say they "remembered us". it was alwyas fun, but after two or three times in a 2 hour line, people started to catch on to what you were doing an eventually started ignoring you. met some pretty interesting people though
  4. let me just say, that i have been working with a local carnival company for 7 years now, during the summers to help pay for college and other expenses. In those 7 years, not one ride has ever "blown over" because of wind gusts, and we operate several rides that rise over 40ft in the air. We close in inclement weather situations, which includes lightning, or high winds for safety reasons. Inflatable attractions (moon bounces and such) come down in winds over 15mph. We operate a Rock-O-Plane, which maybe from the ground does not look sturdy, however i personally have seen it take winds of over 75MPH and not budge an inch during a storm in dayton just last summer. These rides are SAFE. They all have very strong out-riggers to support themselves and brace themselves. They are not just going to "blow over" in a gust of wind. while i suppose i understand your fears, and anything can happen at any time, carnival accidents are RARE. just as amusement accidents are. In my 7 years, the biggest accident we had involved a child jumping down our air slide, after being told not too (dis-obeying rules) and breaking his leg on impact. We carry with us one of the best safety records in the state of ohio, and the country. All rides after being assembled on site are inspected by the assembly team, as well as by a supervisor. In many cases, a state inspector from the Department of Agriculture will check them as well before we are able to opearate. In addition to being checked at the time of being set-up, rides are also checked by employees every day before opening to the public at a given event, just like the rides at KI are tested on a daily basis. it makes me sick that people are so afraid of carnival rides. i assure you they are safe. carnival rides and carnival workers have been given a bad reputation and stereotype by movies and the media, but it is false. thank you.
  5. could a diver be coming to ki? first the overly large round footing in the midway (similar th sheikra's) and now the apparent splashdown area..... hmmmmm i sure wouldnt mind.... some people call dive machines "one trick pony's" but having personally been on sheikra and griffon, i beg to differ. they offer great, unique thrills time after time.... hyper or dive, either way, i'll be satisfied. heck, at least its pretty obvious are lucky enough to be getting a coaster right???
  6. guess even "the happiest place on earth" cant lift some peoples spirits.... okay, sorry that was in bad taste, but i had to do it..... tragic story.... i'm just glad his family was not with him on the trip.
  7. i was kinda thinkin it was supposed to be Firehawk? sorta some of the elements from that ride are visible.... not sure though.
  8. i joined oct. 03, i believe i was member 58? and was around for pkiguide, pkiu, the merger and all that jazz. at first i was posting all the time, but now i only tend to post when i have something valuable (not spam) to add to the conversation, or a question about something.
  9. thanks for all the input guys!
  10. hello everyone, i am currently in the process of trying to plan a trip to dollywood i was shocked to find out that a one day ticket is over 50 dollars. is this worth it? has anyone ever been? i guess my question is dollywood a one day or two day park? a one day pass sis $50.20, but a season pas is only $73? when compared to a place like Cedar Point (42.95 one day) or even Kings Island (29.99) one day.... is dollywood really worth the gas, food, and lodging? i had no idea it was going to be that expensive to even get into the park.... thanks for any help!
  11. i seem to remember some years ago....1999, when Face/OFF / Invertigo opened, the very first night was the season pass preview on a friday evening. the temperature outside was hovering right around 32 degrees and fell throughout the night. There was a good deal of snow falling, as well as sleet / freezing rain. We did not stay long, however being the teenagers we were, and freshmen in high school, my friends and i took advantage of a nearly empty park and managed to get a few rides on Face/off, beast, Vortex, outer limits and a couple flats. Perhaps this is when he is referring to riding The Beast in the snow?
  12. anyone think the new pavillion is gonna cause a "bottleneck" at riverbend? if you've ever been to a sold out concert, or warped tour you know what i mean. its hard enough to move... now with limited space on the blacktop outside the lawn and concessions area... we could be looking at some major congestion! i sure hope not! great pics... i cant wait to head back to coney this summer
  13. they got new cars for phantom? i thought that they just painted them to look like mystery machine??? why get new cars that look like the old ones instead of gettin new nifty little Mystery machine shaped ones?
  14. http://www.cedarfair.com/ir/press_releases/index.cfm today Cedar Fair announced capital expenditures for 2008 at all of their parks. no mention of Kings Island. major improvements include: Dominator at KD Behemoth at CW BB expansion for Carrowinds Family area for Cedar Point Family coaster for knotts berry farm no mention anywhere of Kings Island. are we being left out? or will we see some old geauga lake rides? willl we maybe see the return of the campground? all these rumors i have heard for 08 are not panning out. how do we feel about this?
  15. i like TR:TR. i may be one of the few, but if ind it enjoyable. its a shame the theming has gone to crap.... here is an idea... paint the interior of the building black. put in all sorts of lighting effects, ultraviolet paint on the walls, blacklight on the ceiling and paint the ride some flourecent color. put it in overdrive and call it something like rave.... wouldn't be expensive, we'd still have the ride, and there would be no more naming issues with the ride. anybody like the idea?
  16. oh man... when the rock-o-plane gets off balance... sometimes is a real pain in the but to get people off... or down from the top... haha i hate it. my first time running it, i had a lot of mad people. lol, took me about twenty minutes to get the darn thing balanced again!
  17. i work for a local amusement company and have also had the pleasure of running our rock-o-plane. tricky to operate, but a heck of a good time riding. my personal record for flips is 85 in a two minute cycle. could have been more but it gets exhausting pushing weight back and forth. haha anyway, ireccomend a ride on the rock for anyone and everyone that enjoys having their stomache turned inside out! p.s. ik now that many of coney's rides are portable (single and double trailers) and not ground mounted rides. i was just curious as to wether or not they dismantle these rides over the winter for indoor storage?
  18. “We advise before you come through the gates, no one, no thing is off limits.” no one... does this mean actors will be able to interact and physically touch guests? i hope so. i love hants where people grab me from behind... little extra scare. i doubt very much because of insurance liabilities that this will be possible.... but i guess we can hope!
  19. do we think tomb raider is on the way out? i've been to the park 6 times this summer, the latest being two weeks ago. i have yet to see tomb raider run this season, and i noticed last visit while riding The Beast that there was some of the scenery just sitting out back of the building. discounting the jacket now? isnt getting rid of merchandise usually a sign? any thoughts? am i crazy?
  20. i think he is referring to the fact that Kings Island is closed all but like 5 days in the month of september. hes saying the weather would be beautiful for a visit, but its hard to schedule with all the private events....
  21. haha "new attraction will change face of thrill ride history" haha must admit... there was... key word being was... some great theming to tomb raider, but it brings up the age old question that we have debated for years... couldnt they have come up with something a little better than a top spin in a box? seriously!
  22. looks like coaster footers to me.... http://www.cwmania.com/photos/displayimage...=124&pos=36
  23. for those who havent heard, yesterday thur 6/21 around 1:30 pm, SOB was testing. i was in the Firehawk line. only saw two full cycles, (one each train, and they looked good from a distance) but its good to see it movin!
  24. i believe gas prices being high may actually help Kings Island. with the prices so high, people from the cincinnati, dayton and Indianapolis markets are much less likely to drive all over hte country on summer vacations, i think we will see less tourists, and more and more regional guests this summer. what do you all think?
