  1. Video was released today or yesterday. This is not the attack video but just video of Dawn and Tilly working together. They are now saying Dawn was laying on or near a shelf in the water, which she was not suppose to do. Her hair was in a pony tail, which they state is mandatory, but the hair still driffted in or near Tilly and he snagged her. Supposedly the hair got stuck, possibly in the orca's jaws. They had to pry the jaw open twice to free Dawn. Either way other trainers have reported to NBC news this morning that after Tilly took Dawn underwater, Tilly started to get frantic with his motions and possible attitude; which they say means he knew something was wrong. Either way the video is safe for all ages and does not show the attack.
  2. windshawne, good opinion. My only thought was, you didnt tell your vet? that could have been dangerous .... but seriously shawne, many people believe what you feel, and you backed it up. But in some cases I think animals are better to be captive. Look at the white rhino, zoos are tying to help them rebreed and grow in population numbers...... side note, if you like looking at animals in a "real" setting you should check out The Wilds. They are in eastern Ohio. The animals seem to be happy there (versus a zoo) http://www.thewilds.org/
  3. sooooo.... SOB is it seen from the road? lol
  4. before we go deleting this thread could we just delete the intended posts lol i like this thread
  5. the only ride i ever almost passed out on.....
  6. its a good article. I mean places like Sea World, and other zoos across the globe, have done a lot for helping animal species alive. But then again PETA has a point also. AT what point do you cross the line between helping and hurting animals. Then again at what point do you cross the line of putting other animals on higher platforms than humans. It seems this whole tragic incident was a freak accident and to be truthful no one will know for sure. People who think the whales shouldnt be captive will say it was being natural and killing something. People who love the animals will say it was being curious and just happened. Either way it was a horrible accident and hopefully trainers can learn something from this incident.
  7. so if Cedar Fair does it for other parks why not KI?
  8. True, I was just being sort of sarcastic
  9. good points goodyellow. If they do a kick *** marketing campaign then I could see it helping the ride. But if they are going to redo the ride could they remove the box lol (After doing what you said)
  10. goodyellowkorn you make some good points but I question your thought that it would be worth it. Would it be worth it for park riders who enjoy rides like the top spin? yes. Would it be worth it for the park? I am not 100% sure about that one. If they would have made the change in 02 or just put in a ride like you spoke about it would have been worth it. The ride is already 8 years old at least? (not sure on the age so correct me where needed) The general public would not see it as a new ride but just a new seating space (no different than getting a new coaster train on a coaster, and even then some GP assume that it was just refurbished not replaced). So would the money invested really be worth it? That would take a study and lots of money. They can just keep it open as is (and market it like you said, as a family ride) and run it till its past its usefulness. As someone said (too lazy to look back) odds are against seeing the crypt open in 10 years so why put in a new ride that would not attract the new crowd if the GP will abandon the ride in 10 years (give or take)........
  11. free admission, free parking, free food? sounds like a park buyout to me..... Yes I know its not totally free, someone had to pay for it........ but free to the average joe, unless you take into account the bad hours that person may work.....
  12. i do not work at any of the parks just an average joe. I thought they were whales until this incident when all of the articles called them Orcas. I then looked it up and found out they are closely related to dolphins. So I thought we should be calling it by the right name. No harm no foul, it would be like calling zebras - horses..... different animal even though they may be similar, so no harm no foul. Just trying my best to make someone smarter each day (and is that such a bad thing?) So today's lesson is complete, a Killer Whale is actually a real big dolphin named that way because it can kill whales..... I edited my original post to show I did not mean it in an angry or spiteful or even rude way. But hey if someone on here would go and mislabel a roller-coaster brand that person would be put up on a wooden post..... BTW I am changing that quote from my previous post. I had quoted the whole article but I guess it got shortened and it got shortened to the wrong part of the story I wanted to pin point, which was why Tilly can not be put back into the wild because he was taken from his pod before he could learn to hunt correctly.....
  13. good luck on the dream..... So it seems in the last article posted the training aspects will change or at least the interactions will change. As some have pointed out it was a freak accident but how can you change to avoid future ones? It seems this orca (can we stop calling them whales? The killer whale (Orcinus orca), commonly referred to as the orca and, less commonly, blackfish, is the largest species of the dolphin family.) grabbed the trainers braid and pulled her in. Maybe not have braided long hair? But overall there is not much I see from an outside that could be different other than to pull the show. Now this is a decent opinion, even if it comes from FOXNews.com. Talks about why Killer Whales like Tilly cant be returned to the wild.... http://www.foxnews.c...dawn-brancheau/ Just in case you dont like clicking on the links EDIT: Fixed the quote, and the "stop calling them whales" is a nice request not an angry demand
  14. If you play with Spell check and type in dowtome the top choice is downtime and the second choice? downtown...... terpy for the win?
  15. very true terp. But people are just as surprised when their neighbor kills someone as they are when there dog bites someone or a killer whale, which thanks to the many articles I have learned is actually a big dolphin, kills people..... Has PETA jumped on this as a reason to let the animals free yet?
  16. Agreed Brown. The Beast is the same ol beast but when everything else is rougher/wilder/faster The Beast is not as wild. Its all relative. But a tunnel structure could survive if they just anchored it away from the ride. I mean if they just built the structure into the ground, but to build such a structure would mean the ride will be running and at this point very few people know if that will happen for sure.
  17. I had a wolf hybrid a few years ago, and let me tell ya they are very intelligent animals and would do things that were out of the ability of a normal dog. We had ground rules, such as leaving him alone while eating because of the natural instinct of fighting over food. I had him at the vet once, and he was grumpy and nipping at me, yet a child came up smacked him on the nose, and he kissed her. The child giggled and walked away. It's as if he knew this little child didn't know any better so he showed restraint-and that was one of the surprising incidents I witnessed over the years. At the age of 9 he became unpredictable with what I believed was dementia, since I could roll over in bed and he would snap and growl at me-it became apparent he was a liability so I had him put down. He also had some sort of skin disease that last year and would whine sometimes for no reason. Point of all this-animals are animals and you can never tell what they are going to do. I have heard two different stories of hybrids dragging babies to safety and turning around and biting adults. Go figure-I still wonder what makes them tick. Years of evolution. But winshawne you seen first hand the "battle" of nature versus nurture first hand. But again these things are animals (domesticated or wild) and they do not behave like humans, no matter how hard we want them to. Just a sad day, and sorry you have to put your wolf hybrid down. My family owned a wolf/Sheppard/husky mix. Beautiful dog but it was so old it was just grumpy.......
  18. marlfox i understand what you are saying but unless you were there or there was some video no one knows for 100 % phantom of that story I think this is the scariest quote It could happen anywhere (life being ended) but its just a scary thought and these people do it all the time. But if you love something it never seems as dangerous
  19. heard through my sources (former tv people) that there may be video released of the incident. Not sure how I feel about that one.... EDIT: they are still current tv people, I knew them from my previous life as a former tv person
  20. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_re_us/us_seaworld_death ^^^Just another view^^^. With the guy who dove/fell/was drug into the tank after hours, no one knows for sure. The coroner said he died of hypothermia but was found with scratches on his body. Since there was no video of that guy no one knows for sure. This is just a sad story but these are wild animals. Personal pets turn on owners so why are we surprised animals who have not been domesticated (wolves, bears, alligators, horses, whales) turn on their owners. Sad day thoughts and prayers to the sea world family.
  21. well blueprints are not a sacred gold item. I mean even mister brady lost his at KI.....
  22. Well what if CF does not want to operate SOB in fear that another lawsuit happens. It could put a future owner in jeopardy, or not. Agreed a map will be released but maybe the park wants to have a big media day. I am beginning to think this thread is showing that our society is getting to a point where we no longer want to wait for an answer. It could be the park has no idea what they want to do with the ride. They may want to open it but worry about the ride. They may want to close it but think it has potential. I would not want to be a person left in charge of deciding the fate of this ride or any ride for that matter....
  23. and it says preliminary.... which means that its not the final list just yet. As people have said they are not just going to slip it in on a sub-part of a website (which is barely updated as is ) telling the future of the biggest wooden coaster in the world......... we will all know in due time
