Now I dont see whats so bad about the last two pages, it was just a group of people having a discussion about a topic that included no name calling or mud flinging...... however we did have one bloody nose and a dead (possible) goose
-
who knows maybe we are encouraging some young member on this board to be a roller coaster/theme park lawyer.... or the complete obvious, giving someone ideas either way we may have created something lol
-
well, i doubt that would work, expecially since Cedar Fair redesigned and rebuild one whole section of the ride and the goose was about when fabio got hit in the face while riding apollo's chariot, and you referring to the different things that could cause a blood vessel to burst. edit: terpy beat me to explaining the goose. Correct me if I am wrong, and I may be, but they did not rebuild and redesign the area where ride failed. I thought they just rebuild it but with "better wood." I know they redesigned the loop area....... Plus a force test could be run to see what kind of forces the "average" rider would suffer during the ride. A doctor should say how much pressure would be needed to caust a vessel to burst. A Stroke is only caused by a weak area of a blood vessel being pushed on by a hard force. EDIT: true terp, the internet is not where all of the evidence is presented as such. However the internet is where we get together and discuss over the imaginary water cooler, with out the boss yelling at us..... no harm, unless future jury members stumble upon this web site and have a set mindset before trial....
-
totally missed on the goose one... now if we were talking about broken noses and he mentioned goose, I would have gotten that. Now wasnt the park able to shift the blame to the riders, the gentleman who broke his back, because he had some sort of disease and should have known better than ride the ride? Doesnt that allow them the same defense in this situation (Terp I know you dont have the perfect answer for this and if you did you cant answer it. Im just more asking it as a general question to think about)... and Hausty we can talk negatively about the ride if we want too.... lol
-
well would previous court cases have any barring on this one? Meaning the jury has found KI to be at fault (in one way shape or form) from the previous law suit... wouldnt a simple force test show that at any one point of the ride, there would be excessive force on the skull? or is it a much more indepth conversation/lawsuit than that.... Coaster: goose? What ?
-
^^ actually any extra force on the human head could cause a blood vessel to burst... even a rapid change in air pressure can cause a vessel to burst. Its all about timing, and thanks terp about the court case of blood vessel lady..... and was SOB tested for force educed trauma or was it tested to make sure nothing had broken causing the injury. Just because the ride is operating the way it should be does not make it safe....
-
If I am not mistaken didnt court prove that it was because of the ride that the vessel popped in her head? Plus as Don H said back in June/July the ride was to remain closed because they were not happy with the ride experience (see the Cincy.com article about SOB being cleared but sitting idle.)

Oh trust me. I think the ride is done, and I don't consider myself a complainer or praiser, I'm neutral. But there are those who take it too far and have proved themselves to be nothing but immature in the (at times) ridiculous photoshop postings and ranting about bonfires ignoring the fact they would burst into flames right alongside their beloved SOB. That's rational? Terpy and Shaggy are the best role models in this entire thread... (I only said them cause their posts are/were so mature I actually remembered them due to the fact they made me think). I much rather learn something or hear actual news, not read rubbish. (There have been some very intelligent posts, some even from someone that doesn't like SOB, but yeah I gave my reason why I had to use them as examples) Hey I agree with, I too think the ride is done. But I do not think its fair, nor is it productive, to slip and slide into name calling and be like everyone else on this board. I agree terp and shaggy have added things to the discussion that have been great, and some others have too. I just am tired of reading nothing but name calling from one side to the other about this ride...... thats why I ranted.....

You know I would agree people who walk into the park may say I want to ride that big ride, but most people dont come to a park for a certain ride. Sure enthusiasts do and many people on here will make a trip to XX park to ride the YY ride. But to be truthful I think most people think like this "hey we should go to (Cincinnati) for vacation. They have a theme park, we could catch a baseball game, and then etc." I mean I went to Bush Gardens 3 years ago, not ride any ride, but because on vacation it was near by and my fiance and I wanted to go to a theme park. So Im not sure a single ride brings more of the GP to the park or not, but I would lean towards thinking it does not bring in more people. Now its not fair calling people who think SOB is done complainers or haters. Some of the people who think SOB is done for have used very rational thinking. Same thing can be said for the people who think it will be standing and running this season. Why do you have to help fling mud at each member who is against what you (obviously) feel is the right decision. The divide between the Should SOB stand or Should SOB fall groups is starting to feel like the divide between the Republicans and Democrats. Both sides do not care what the other side is saying, they just assume its wrong.....

May I take options C and E?

terp its not like you are inspiring any one go all Guy Fawkes........

Agreed with everyone above. Slogans should be somewhat long lasting. When Slogans or tag lines are changed constantly then people will have a hard time remembering it and the product. Again a slogan will not change my opinion about where to go for a theme park in Southwest Ohio, but it could help change someone in Columbus. Everyone knows that after a great victory or win you would say "Im going to disney world" or "Where dreams come true", you know they are talking about Disney Land/world.... The thing is no one is going to think "Fun and Only" oh Kings Island. Think about it Kroger tells you in their slogan they are "The Right Store. The Right Price." simply telling you they would be the best for you to buy groceries. However with Fun and Only, I feel like they have no idea what I consider fun and they are the only what? Come on Be happy, made me think happy thoughts, America's Family Entertainment told me it was good for families, but Fun and Only? I am not sure what is Fun and Only about KI.... Not saying KI is not fun but it makes me think weird and funny thoughts about the park. Kings Island the Fun and only park in the southwest of ohio with a roller coaster that is named beast.......

I wouldnt say the ride is worthless, it could be recycled for money.... lol in all reality the park will make a decision that makes the bottom line look the best apparently not the case from what i could gather. its pretreated wood and has about as many uses as containers of radioactive waste... would probably cost a fee just to get rid of it... but is there not steel located in the ride? the bolts and plates?

Oh but it could ride on ... I do not own the video just found it online, but it has cool video and I think you can see the Beetle on it....

As in the very first one, no less. Indeed: http://www.huntingto...e35/dagmar.html Ha I knew one day all of my old tv show viewing and my original undergrade degree, media (before my new field of Speech TherapY), would come in handy....... There is something alluring about the ol timers.... lol

right. you said nobody had a dag near stroke so what are you saying? I said you were not doctor so you can not say if someone did or did not have a stroke. If you take a basic neruo class you will learn that there are no such things as dag near strokes. They either are or they are not strokes. If the blood is not reaching a part of the brain = stroke. If you were saying she had a stroke, then I apologize (because you would be correct according to her doctors) but if you were saying she did not, then my "you are not a doctor you can not diagnose anything" comment is still true. So I guess my answer to your sort of question is yes and no?
-
sort of agree with you all, its either a stroke or not a stroke. There are no such things as "dag near stokes." And terp was she on the Bob Hope Show?
-
to be honest unless you are a doctor or have taken a class in Neurology you are in no place to diagnose a possible stroke victim. With that being said because a ride is safe and cleared does not mean it can not cause a future harm. Toyota did not know that their gas pedals would stick leaving the car with an open throttle, but they were ruled safe when they opened. So its possible that the trains could contribute to the overall roughness of the ride. And you said nobody had a "dag near stroke" then go and talk about a ruptured blood vessel she got while riding the ride. Ruptured blood vessel in the skull=stroke. A stroke is an interruption of the blood supply to any part of the brain. A stroke is sometimes called a "brain attack."

I lived in upstate NY and the weather was consistent up until april/may it seems those months are crazy for all the states. My guess for opening day 2010? 45-50 degree, 6-10 mph wind gusts, and rain off and on could turn to snow later in the evening..... Just going by how the weather seemed to hit much later this year than normal....

if you have photoshop you can just resize and erase/copy the tree line over the water mark in the bottom right

I went there 2 saturdays ago, from behind Great Wolf Lodge there is a dirt road with a locked gate, that if you go right before it you can see right up next to top gun, and can see a little bit of the rose bowl, and the lift among a few other bits and pieces. it was still all in one piece, with no construction crews in the area. on another note, who owns that greenhouse? its just so randomly placed, and an odd thing to have. its not abandoned, either. The green houses, I believe, are owned by KI. They are used for the many plants planted all around the park

Hey gang, I searched and couldnt find the topic so I started this. Has anyone been watching the show, "Life after People" on the history channel? Well it talks about what happens when people abandon an area, they even use Americana as an example of what happens after 7 years. Well what I thought was important was the little part where they mentioned how close the Screachin Eagle is to collapse. The wood is okay, but the cables holding up after years of neglect are fraying and breaking. They said with in a few years the ride will collapse on itself, and possibly the lift hill could be on the first things to go. Sad thoughts. Even more upsetting was the owner of Americana/Lesourdsville Lake talking about how the park is in such bad disrepair.... sad sad sad...

No, we do have the information, but unlike you, I am not willing to throw people's opinions away just becasue they gave it online. And you can try and throw as much useless data around, but that information is also online, so it can be discarded just like people's opinions. And yes, having an opinion and backing it up is our job. Welcome to the glorious World of a forum. I dont think hes throwing out the information because its online, but what he is saying or how I interpreted it was that its not a true enough slice of the riding public. To get an accurate portrayal of what people think of the ride would be to follow these steps: First find out how many people ride the ride then determine your sample size (lets say 100,000 people ride it so our sample size is 1000).... out of that 100,000 lets say 60% are white, 25% black, and 15% other races. Then you would have to calculate average age, lets say an average rider age is about 25, so our sample size would have to be of people, in even distribution, from ages 20-30. Then have them take a survey, ranking everything from 1-10. You would have to have more than 1 question. Questions could be Seat Comfort, Ride Smoothness, thrill, etc. Then an average could be taken from all these to give the ride some sort of a scale. however the problem again with this is you have to be able to understand that just because we have a small sample size (1000) it would have a +- of about 4-7 percent, which is huge and makes most surveys useless. (Remember back to civics when we were taught that if a survey can waver 4-6 points either way then its a failed survey) However this would be a very interesting survey to take, and make... EDIT- so i tried to add a poll to garner some scientific data and research but I can only put up 3 questions so never mind

Its sad to watch this because I remember going to the park and seeing it being built and having such high hopes for that ride... I remember my first ride on that coaster, awesome!!! but since then its just sad to think about ya know?
