Geauga Lake land will be sold -- in pieces
malem replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Here's the full article: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20130304/SUB1/303049984&template=printart -
Those are now fixed, and some hyphenation was added. Still just as corny, but at least the grammar's right.

Via @KIGMGREG on Twitter: I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the menus for this year.

Even though you and I generally dislike them, they have delivered a significant increase in online revenues according to Cedar Fair's own statements. Accesso does support non-Flash ticket sales, but Cedar Fair has not chosen to implement this, except via the very limited mobile ticket store. In related news, Lo-Q purchased Accesso late last year, right after Cedar Fair entered into a long-term contract with them. Lo-Q supplies smart virtual queuing systems (Q-Bot) to Accesso customers Six Flags and the Columbus Zoo, as well as other parks.

^ How about: Easy: Any ride in Planet Snoopy Hard: A restroom (don't know why anyone would take a picture of any of them, though) Expert: A DA dinosaur, from any location

Matt Ouimet Interview
malem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
EDIT: ignore this post. -
Not really an error, but the SEO text at the bottom of the homepage is pretty trite: The purpose of this text is to ensure high search result rankings, not to be read by most visitors. Considering that it's visible on the page, less awkward wording would still be nice. It reads like a grade school paper rambling on to fill up the page.

An analyst asked whether there would be additional upside from Fast Lane in 2013, as predicted last year, considering that more growth than expected was realized in 2012. Mr. Ouimet answered, vaguely, that "meaningful opportunity" still exists. There could be a change in philosophy, but I don't think that this response signals one. Tweaking Fast Lane pricing and implementation is nothing new, and revenue has always been the goal. After a full year at all their parks, they're probably better at finding the "sweet spot".

^ From today's conference call transcript (http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27042-cedar-fair-2012-year-end-results-and-conference-call/), the modernized point-of-sale system at Knott's was activated this week, likely making such promotions possible. It's good to see some extra value for the platinum pass tier outside of Ohio. A flat discount would be a welcome change from the more complex food discounts at KI and CP.

It's not just loose articles; photography on most rides is expressly prohibited. At Holiday World cameras aren't permitted onto rides at all, even if secured in a zippered pouch/pocket. They must be left at the station or with a non-rider.

Comcast has already directly affected the parks, buying Blackstone Group's stake and doubling down on capital investment.

^ Wave pool on the opposite side of the park? It happened at Geauga. More than once. A less silly proposition, perhaps, if Cedar Fair owned Great Wolf Lodge and if the Soak City renovation hadn't happened.

Gov. Kaisich Proposes Admission Tax
malem replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ The point of lowering the sales tax and the income tax is to partially offset the broadening of the sales tax. In effect, part of the tax burden on individuals and businesses is shifted to the consumption of services. Politically, it allows Kasich to raise taxes while technically "lowering" them. Regardless, applying the sales tax to amusement park gate admissions is a spectacularly bad idea. Not only does it put Ohio parks at a competitive disadvantage in the region, but it potentially hurts the ancillary tax revenue from out-of-state tourist spending and from the associated jobs. -
Gov. Kaisich Proposes Admission Tax

It would presumably work like it does now with vending machines, where sales tax is included in the posted price. The appropriate percentage of sales would simply be remitted to the state, and prices may or may not be adjusted upwards to compensate. By the way, it's mentioned that sales tax rates would go down to partially offset the expanded tax. I'm quite certain that counties would be quick to raise them back up. -
Gov. Kaisich Proposes Admission Tax

I'd venture to say that Kasich's office fielded an angry phone call from Sandusky this morning. -
We're on page 6 of a thread discussing the removal of a ride that's not being removed, and we're debating the finer points of whether said ride's queue is a waste of space. There's no point.

How Many Visits Did You Make to Kings Island in 2012?
malem replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KI Polls
^ It's not open 7 days per week for the entire season. -
^ Try the steps I listed in post #20 of this thread. I've tested them, and they've worked for several other people. The steps are easier if you use Firefox, as it "pretty prints" the source code by default. Once you fix it on any browser, it will work properly on all browsers and devices. Alternatively, an admin (Dane or BoddaH1994) can fix it for you manually.

^ Yet the thread will not die.

Per Twitter, the days/hours for early season pass processing have been announced: http://www.visitkingsisland.com/events/things-to-do/special-events/Season-Pass-Processing-Dates-and-Hours There's also information on the Opening Day schedule: http://www.visitkingsisland.com/events/things-to-do/special-events/Opening-Day-2013 (turnstiles won't open until ERT starts at 9:30)

When did you join KICentral?
malem replied to Captain Nemo's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
His ride was still standing and operating when he joined, so it was not by choice for him. -
I chose the metonymy because: The truck's high-beams were on, so I couldn't see the driver. "It" sounds better than "he or she". You're right; it's spookier, fitting this specific thread better. (see also Christine) I suspect that the employee inside was having a great time watching my reactions.

At Cedar Point after closing, a pickup truck followed me up the midway. Several times, after pulling as near to me as it could, it blew its horn to startle me. (I was not in the truck's way, and my confused gestures back were ignored.) This is what I get for being parked in the Soak City lot after staying past 11:00pm for ERT to end. (This was the first time they offered the weekly ERT, so not many people knew about it. The park was absolutely dead.)

I, for one, hope the next big attraction is a surprise. Some of the announcement's thunder is stolen when the full specs and even the name are leaked weeks early, as happened with Gatekeeper. I do hope for some teasers and hints, of course! Everyone's attempts to interpret them is part of the fun.
