Person Dies at Schlitterbahn Kansas City
jcgoble3 replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Other articles from the same paper: May 22: Audit of Schlitterbahn water park finds many violations ahead of May 25 opening: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article211685544.html May 23: Schlitterbahn disputes audit, won't open rides until concerns are 'fully addressed': http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article211790889.html May 25: Schlitterbahn opens in KCK today, but 11 rides remain closed: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article211897439.html The May 23 article contains perhaps the worst part: "False impression" of "operating [...] in an unsafe manner"? "Malicious"? "Unfounded fear"? I have no further comment, except to say that you won't find me at Schlitterbahn for a VERY long time. If ever. -
HoliWood Nights 2018: Coastershack
jcgoble3 replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I once did this on Wildebeest. It was a blazing hot Saturday afternoon at HoliWood Nights (2011, I believe) and I had just gotten off of the log flume, so I was already wet. I wandered into the waterpark and ended up in the single rider line for Wildebeest. My clothes were completely drenched after that ride and despite the intense sun, were still damp when I got back to my hotel at 1:30 AM ET*. (That was also a "fun" trip, with the park on Central Time and my hotel in Jasper on Eastern Time. Had to constantly convert from one to the other in my head when figuring out what time I needed to leave or when I would get back. I swore to never do that again.) -
Indeed. The ONLY restaurant out of those that I visit regularly that kept serving romaine is Panera, which has signs at all registers stating that the recall was only for romaine from the Yuma area and that their romaine comes only from California. The rest simply stopped serving it, probably because they couldn't be sure exactly where it was coming from. KI probably did the same. I do agree that guests should be informed of the switch prior to paying for their food.

There is a major recall on romaine lettuce, which is probably why iceberg was used instead. Information on the FDA website: https://www.fda.gov/Food/RecallsOutbreaksEmergencies/Outbreaks/ucm604254.htm

This is what the people who say "I had good food and service so everything's great" are failing to see. It's a lack of consistency. Just because one person had a great experience one time does not mean there are no problems. Just because you had great service three out of three times in one day does not mean that someone else may have had poor food and poor service three out of three times that same day, even at the same restaurant. The experiences of one person or a few people, even over an extended time, do not form a representative sample from which generalizations can be made about the overall service. Take ALL of the reviews in this thread, and add them to all of the reviews in the other threads on this subject (such as the "meal deals" thread), and you begin to approach something resembling a representative sample. And that sample says that Kings Island food service is horribly inconsistent at best. Don't get me wrong here: It's not a bad thing to report when you get good service, because that is a useful data point. The thing you have to remember is that said data point is not representative and must be considered in the context of all of the other data points.

Excellent summary of most of the food places in the park.

Staffing? We're just starting to come out of the school year, so until now the park hasn't had enough staff to open everything since they rely largely on high school students. Rides are the #1 priority when understaffed, and after that, they have to pick and choose which food places and shops to open. It seems to me that national chains* like that would naturally be a lower priority than the park's own "brands", particularly the new shiny one directly across the midway. *excluding Panda Express and Chick-fil-A, which last I checked were staffed and operated by their respective companies instead of by the park

Those have been gone for a couple of years, I think? In my experience, they were rarely accurate anyway. I always produced my own estimate by looking at the line length myself.

Perhaps someone forgot to switch the computer from spring mode (8pm close on Sundays) to summer mode (10pm close)?

Just opened up the webcams, and it looked like Diamondback just reopened. I saw an empty train cycle and then a long line of people streaming into an empty queue.

I crossed the 275 bridge next to Coney on Thursday evening and saw the Wheel above the trees. That thing is huge! I'll try to make it down there in time to ride it, but I can't guarantee that I will.

You've had three and a half months to establish yourself as a productive member, and in that time you've done nothing but troll, including this post about 15 minutes ago which was completely unnecessary to bring up and does nothing but (and seems purely intended to) kill the mood for no good reason. And then you took a potshot at enthusiast events in general, which was also unnecessary. So at this time, I do not believe you are capable of being a productive member. I welcome you to prove me wrong, but at this point it will take many, many months to do so. The title of "troll" takes minutes to earn and months to lose.

No, you were crystal clear in your implicit admission that you are a troll. Such a goal makes no sense whatsoever unless you believe there is some reason why you may get banned. And that reason is obvious to everyone else on the forums. By stating that goal, you have admitted that such a reason exists, and therefore you have admitted that you are a troll.
-
You just implicitly admitted that you are trolling, because that post makes no sense otherwise.

My guess: lightly crowded, but not as dead as weekdays this week and last week have been, since a lot of kids will then be out of school for the summer. As always, crowd sizes are heavily dependent on weather, which cannot be forecast to the needed level of precision this far in advance, no matter what AccuWeather tries to tell you. Wait to check the weather until Sunday, or even Monday if you can wait that long.

Oh. That wouldn't be anything new. Except for the year or two they had Holiday Horror back in the Peanuts Playhouse (which has been a while), Planet Snoopy has always been closed off during Haunt evenings. I'd be more surprised to see them NOT close off Planet Snoopy during Haunt.

KICentral Apparel is now available!

I threw mine on for a minute to check the fit (a little tighter than anticipated), then threw it in my dirty clothes basket to be washed in the next load of laundry. It was quite stiff, so I'm hoping a trip through the washer and dryer will soften it up. -
Not entirely. For a year or two, they had a maze (Holiday Horror) in the Peanuts Playhouse, with Freak Street on the pathway back to that maze. The latter was moved out to the main midway once they stopped using the Peanuts Playhouse.

And you're going to get wet anyway, so why should anybody care that it's raining? Sadly, too many people are too stupid to realize that. I'm still salty, and will forever be salty, about Tropical Storm Isaac in 2012 moving up the Gulf coast of Florida the day I was at Wet 'n Wild Orlando. The rain that Isaac's eastern edge dumped on Orlando (which wasn't very heavy, and came with no wind at all) resulted in Wet 'n Wild closing after one hour because they didn't get the required 50 people through the gate in that hour. I took the bus down I-Drive to Subway for lunch, and when I came out, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for a waterpark, but no, people have to be idiots. And now Wet 'n Wild is closed forever, and I never got the chance to go back.

Look again. Gravity and friction were being discussed in the context of how fast a giga could go at a given height, therefore it was on-topic. You are discussing your hatred for B&M for the sake of discussing your hatred for B&M. Ergo, off-topic.
-
Yeah, that won't be popular with the families coming for The Great Pumpkin Fest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
-
Actually, since we're talking about height and speed in the U.S. measurement system, it would be better to say 32.2 ft/s2. One of the things I learned in the basic physics course I just finished is to never mix measurement systems. EDIT: Also, you have to account for friction, both with the air and rolling friction on the track. So the actual acceleration is less than 32.2 ft/s2.

Generally speaking, most food places in the park operate from one hour after park opening to one hour before park closing. The exception is food places on International Street, which usually stay open until park closing (and sometimes open earlier as well).

I would prefer B&M due to the better reliability, since a ride is no fun if it's down every time you try to ride it (see @King Ding Dong's ongoing battle with WindSeeker), but I'll take the giga either way. After all, we're just begging for a giga, and beggars can't be choosers. That said, Cedar Fair's issues with Intamin are well-known, and their resulting lack of any recent projects with Intamin speaks volumes as to which manufacturer is more likely to be used for a KI giga.
