  1. All other factors being equal, Tuesday through Thursday are generally the lightest days. Monday and Friday can be a bit heavier because of people taking the day off work to create a three-day weekend. That said, I have no clue what effect, if any, the MLB All-Star Game next week is going to have on KI attendance. Certainly, a lot of people that traveled in from out of town will want to take advantage of other tourist attractions in the area, but I don't know if there will be enough such people to have a noticeable impact on crowd levels at KI.
  2. http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Hershey-Entertainmnet-Data-Breach-313430341.html If you used a credit card at Hersheypark or any other Hershey Entertainment and Resorts property between February 14 and June 2 of this year, you need to cancel that card immediately and check its statements closely, as the exposed information includes cardholder names, card numbers, and card expiration dates, and some guests have already reported unauthorized charges.
  3. That's because PTC decided to specifically recommend not running trains backwards. In Ohio, you either follow all manufacturer recommendations or the ride doesn't get certified to operate. Not according to the park. KI says it was their choice to turn it back around. I commented your reasoning on a KI Facebook post once a few years ago, and the comment was promptly deleted, followed by a polite PM from Don informing me that that reasoning was wrong.
  4. ^ As Kentucky Kingdom is nominally a privately-owned entity, they are not required to release financial data like publicly-owned corporations are.
  5. I bought the 3D glasses for Boo Blasters once. All they did was screw with my vision enough that I couldn't point the gun accurately. Halfway through the ride, I took them off, and my accuracy immediately improved drastically. I never bought or wore them again. Oh, and yes, I do enjoy the shoot-em-up style of dark rides, and would love to see a much better shoot-em-up. Sue me.
  6. Unless you go when the park is deader than KI on a summer weekday, such as the Friday before Labor Day 2012. I walked into Mythos at 10:45 AM that day and made a reservation on the spot for 1:00 PM the same day*. And when I showed up for the reservation, they were taking walk-in customers with a 20-minute wait*. Try that with Disney's California Grill on an equally dead day. Hint: it ain't happenin'. I booked a California Grill reservation for the following Thursday evening, which turned out to be similarly dead, two months in advance, and only got it because somebody canceled; two days before I booked it, there were no slots available for my whole week at Disney. *Experience described is not typical. Your experience may vary.
  7. ^ A "couple" seasons? That's an understatement.
  8. Indeed, I would enjoy watching Vortex get torn down. jcgoble3, pushing buttons
  9. The number of payments varied depending on precisely when you bought your pass. During the fall sale last year, it was nine payments of $20 each for Platinum (which I know because I used that payment plan). Later in the winter, in addition to the final price going up, it was shortened first to six payments, then to four; right now it's three payments for 2015 regular passes and four for 2015 Platinum. Presumably this is because they don't want people skipping out on the remaining payments after the season is over.
  10. Follow-up to my pulled pork incident from Monday. As I mentioned, I went to Guest Services and filled out a complaint form that day. This evening, I received this reply via email: Five days to send a generic reply that only makes mention of the department in question and not the actual issue? I suppose I should be happy they replied at all, given the PR we've seen out of them...
  11. I swear it's going to take a serious injury, or worse, from a flying phone before the park takes it seriously and cracks down on it. In my opinion, ANYONE found to have a phone or other device out on a coaster should be IMMEDIATELY ejected from the park, banned for one year, and arrested for violation of Ohio's RIder Responsibility Law on the FIRST offense. No warnings should ever be given for such a dangerous act. A second offense should be a lifetime ban and another arrest.
  12. I knew it would only be a matter of time before somebody did this. The only surprise is that it happened so quickly, in less than 24 hours.
  13. The sign posted by jdf21972? This is the best I can transcribe it:
  14. Well then. I certainly don't expect head-banging to be an issue, because there's nothing to bang your head on!
  15. ^ "your hanging loose"? Whose bad grammar is that? The newspaper's in transcribing a spoken statement, or Mr. Mulcahy's in an email to the newspaper? (Yes, I know I'm nitpicking. It's what grammar nerds do when they're bored. )
  16. That is so ridiculously complicated that it's brilliant. But a measuring cup would make for a simpler and shorter video.
  17. In that rendering, I love love love love love the swoop over the midway and down across the water.
  18. Apparently the cup is larger than I thought it was, or maybe the "five-ounce" cups on the side of my fridge are actually larger than five ounces. Regardless, the question of ice vs. no ice is still an interesting one that I could use to kill half an hour on a busy day when the lines are longer than I care to wait in.
  19. Perceived value? Or maybe the bag I saw once was a misprint by the manufacturer? Or maybe I'm just curious? Part of this experiment, if I do choose to do it, would also be to compare how much liquid (and thus immediately drinkable) water is in a cup without ice versus a cup with ice, and thus how much extra you get by asking for it without ice. That comparison would only be indirectly connected to the actual cup capacity.
  20. ^ Another reason why the measuring cup would be a better choice than scales.
  21. I'm aware of that. Hence why I want to actually perform the measurements and settle the debate once and for all (well, at least until they change the size of the cups).
  22. I know what a five-ounce cup looks like, and what a nine-ounce cup looks like, because I use both at home semi-regularly. I do not recall the Kinzel cup being remotely close to halfway between those two known sizes. Memory tells me, via comparison to the five-ounce cups on the side of my fridge, that the Kinzel cup is much closer to five ounces. EDIT: I think carrying in a cheap plastic measuring cup would be easier than carrying in a scale.
