  1. Colossus at Magic Mountain? It is closer to the 100 foot mark than the 200 foot mark. To be precise, 125 feet. Also, it was built in 1978, which is actually quite a bit more than 12 or 13 years. The only other Colossus I can think of is the Intamin at Thorpe Park and it isn't even 100 feet... Though you will be happy to hear that it looks to me like a heck of a coaster.
  2. Wow, two pages behind on this, but I had to chip in: If I remember the numbers correctly, Vortex is the third most-ridden ride at KI right now. Though it will almost certainly drop to fourth next season, there is no way KI removes one of their most popular attractions if people are still riding it and maintenance is still (relatively) cheap and easy.
  3. I tried to put this in No Limits, and no matter how much I drew out the elements, I was pulling 9 Gs in the little twisty part. I think the closest you'd get would be a tight helix that surrounds the base of a loop. The loop would have to be part of the coaster's return trip to the station. I couldn't find a way to go straight from a tight spiral into a loop without pulling lethal G's. But I'm kind of a No Limits amateur, so maybe someone with more experience than me can give it a shot.
  4. I used to think that. Get on Diamondback and sit in row 15 or 16. You'll find it's like riding a brand new coaster.
  5. Racer: Middle of a car. 1-3 if I remembered to pack Advil. The airtime is wonderful, but the pain is not... Beast: Back car, middle seat or 1-1. At night, definitely the former over the latter. Flight of Fear: back half of the train. BLSC: Any row, right side. Diamondback: Row 16, please AE: Every seat is fantabulous, but front if I have to pick. Vortex: I love each and every seat with a passion, but 1-1 or 5-1 are my favorites. Firehawk: A seat on Flight of Fear
  6. I would find stacking preferable to being totally unable to even start the load process until the train returns to the station. True, people would sit on the brake run for a bit, but even if it only ups throughput by 10%, that's still 10% faster moving lines.
  7. Well, you asked how KI can improve EACH ride, but that's a lot, so I'll stick to coasters and select others: Racer: PAINT, PAINT, PAINT. It looks totally unloved, and I want the (arguably) most important coaster of all time to get the love it deserves Vortex: Repaint the rails. The blue is fine, but the orange is looking yellow. Compare the lift hill to the station and it's a night and day difference. Diamondback: Tear it down and build something else (hey, you asked how it could be IMPROVED, not for something realistic) Firehawk: improved load/unload process. Nighthawk moves lines MUCH faster in my experience and has one station... Invertigo: PAINT THE BLOODY SIGN THE RIGHT COLORS! FoF: Better queue video. The current one, while fun, is dated and for locals and enthusiasts it is undoubtedly stale. Flight Deck: Lap bars. I see no reason why a non-inverting coaster with sides and a floor in each car needs OTSRs. Backlot: Pay the licensing and bring back Italian Job name. It's on the control panel and the ride is obviously based on the chase scene in the movie. Just let it have the name. AE: Price is Right yodeler song on the main lift. Yes, I'm serious, I would love that. Beast: Less trims. Possibly some loudspeakers near the ride to make a roaring sound every so often. Not necessarily every cycle, but occasionally. Flying Ace: Uh... Two Trains? Brake run, station, lift hill, that's 3 blocks, so it can run two, right? Woodstock Express: Give it more recognition, it's a great coaster for what it is, and it deserves more love. Delirium: MaxAir ride cycle Grand Carousel: Fix that beautiful Wurlitzer. It makes me cry on the inside every time I see it in its current state. I have a vinyl LP of its music, and it is lovely. I want to hear it in person. Boo Blasters: Add a pre-show, and turn on the sound effect for the guns, but make it quieter than it was. Also, have a laser pointer in them so you can see where you're aiming. Or at very least, add in a properly-calibrated sight. Banshee: Be finished and open now because I want to ride it
  8. I agree with your last sentence, it would be a dream if Cedar Fair never built unreliable rides with extensive downtime, that's for sure ;P
  9. I don't like the idea of recurring billing. I enjoy paying in one lump sum and not needing to think about it for the rest of the year. If I'm paying a monthly bill, that feels like a debt to me. And I HATE owing people money. I pay upfront for absolutely everything I can. So unless I can pay a year's balance in full and in advance AND the pricing is similar to what I'm paying now, I could not possibly be more opposed to the idea of a "membership". Would it stop me from purchasing whatever package is necessary to get unlimited KI visits? Probably not. But would it put me one tiny step closer to finding a new hobby? Maybe. I honestly don't know how to feel. Not to mention, amusement parks are my way of escaping the worries and troubles of real life things like work and finances. I think a monthly charge would kinda kill the spirit of that for me. But hey, that's just my opinion. Maybe I'm in the minority.
  10. And if Six Flags had bought Kings Island, season passes would cost twice as much and regular parking would cost $2 more than what PREFERRED parking currently costs. Also, The Racer would be gone, because who needs a 40 year old woodie? That space would be much better used as a queue for another ride.
  11. Except that RMC's coasters don't use wooden track, so... I don't even consider Outlaw Run to be wooden.
  12. Looks to be 45 degree angle of ascent. No one will have the actual angle of ascent, unless they obtain the CAD drawings. It could be 41.345 degrees for all we know. We can figure out the run of the lift hill from the leaked blueprints. The rise of the lift hill will be 168 feet minus ~15-20 feet to account for the starting height. In the decoding topic, I had guesstimated it at slightly under 40 degrees. But I'm no engineer and they were just that, estimates. But I'd guess that we can expect to see it reasonably close to 40 degrees. I'd wager that it wouldn't be any higher than that.
  13. You can't definitively say that it was a spike in attendance just because it was built by Intamin.I don't care who builds the ride, as long as its a good ride. I as well as most everyone else will ride it. The manufacturer does make a difference with how safe I feel while riding. A giga from any manufacturer would increase attendance. I am sure if you ask the average coaster rider, they wouldn't know who built what. From what I've experienced, Intamin's Rapids Rides seem to be the best. WWC and Kennywood's Raging Rapids are spectacular. Rip Roarin' Rapids at Carowinds (Built by the Kings Island Entertainment Company, no less) was quite a snorefest. Raging Rapids in Boulder Canyon at Holiday World was only marginally better. I do not know the manufacturer for the latter, but I surmise it isn't an Intamin. The boats are completely different. Either way, I found that at both Carowinds and Holiday Wprld, I escaped the respective rapids rides without so much as a droplet of water hitting me. Raging Rapids and WWC (both Intamins) are relentless in the soakage. And I'm no Intamin fanboy. I would rather ride an Arrow or a (non-hyper/Giga) B&M. But with the Rapids rides, I can say with certainty that Intamin is my current favorite. Congo Falls is also an *INTAMIN* water ride. Ironically, the Arrow log flume across the park consistenly has longer lines than the Intamin. Hmm... Remember, wait times are not an indication of popularity. Though in this case, I think the Arrow flume probably gets more riders. It is undeniably a better ride on almost every count. I think Congo Falls could do better in the water park personally. The capacity is great and I think people would be more willing to ride if they are already in a swimsuit.
  14. I'd be thrilled with one of these in Rivertown: But I'm pretty sure they aren't being made anymore, and I really doubt Kennywood is willing to sell. But it's worth noting that it is my all-time favorite Amusement park attraction that isn't a coaster.
  15. I didn't want to tear anything out, and I wanted to move out of Action Zone. Outside of Action Zone, I can't think of anywhere else that there would be room for a coaster, and even still, all I could fit was a Wild Mouse. I'm the kind of fan who'd rather keep the rides we have than remove something to get something new. I like KI's coaster lineup, especially with Banshee. And I feel that if I remove anything, I'm taking away from what is more or less a complete lineup.
  16. I want to know how CP was even in the running for best Children's Area. I mean, they are divided into four areas, none of which are spectacular. I also want to know why Nickelodeon Universe was nominated for "Best Kids' Area" rather than "Best Children's Park".
  17. OK, you got me. 6 year plan time (because that's all I could think of). 2014 - Open Banshee. General "sprucing up" of Action Zone. Invertigo's sign repainted to match its color scheme. 2015 - Fresh coat of Paint on Vortex, Racer. Tower Gardens restored to former glory. Remains designated Smoking Area, but only partially Begin planning stages for next major coaster to come several years in the future. 2016 - Congo Falls relocated to Soak City and renamed. This will allow guests to enjoy the ride in swimwear and without shoes, making for a better experience. Also brings a high-capacity attraction to the water park. 2017 - Space once occupied by Congo Falls becomes home to Flying Scooters, known as "The Flying Owls". These are brand new scooters and KI's old ones remain at Carowinds. KIC'ers complain incessantly, but 99% of people don't know or care that they are any different. Stage 1 of AZ retheme to Spooky area. 2018 - Renamed rides in AZ. Invertigo becomes Scorpion. Delirium becomes "The Pit and the Pendulum" and receives black and orange paint. Flight Deck becomes "Bat's Revenge", and receives theming. Colors remain (for now). Drop Tower becomes "Perilous Plummet". Action Zone formally renamed to "Fear Fest" as an homage to a bygone era. 2019 - Crypt's building Demolished. In its place, the coaster that began planning in 2014 is built. It is a spinning wild mouse named "River Rat". Since it is inexpensive by coaster standards, it also comes with a new flat to the area, a normal-sized, Suspended Top Spin. No idea where that'll fit. Use your imagination. Diamondback receives new paint since after 10 years it is likely beginning to fade.
  18. I'm pretty confident the effect you would see from that would be pretty much nil. Vortex has awkward transitions. That is the source of the "roughness". The brilliant man in my avatar designed it like that on purpose. I think the biggest effect you could see in making it smoother would be a change in restraints, or possibly a change in trains. Since Vortex is located in Ohio, and Arrow survives through S&S, in order for any changes to occur, a prerequisite would be that S&S does not object to them. Also, sit in the first row of the fifth car. The roughness will be dramatically reduced. Hope I don't come off as a pretentious know-it-all. I am actually thrilled that someone has taken an interest in my beloved Vortex. I have many a friend who will not ride my favorite coaster in the world with me because they feel that it is rough.
  19. Not to be that guy, but... It is a violation of Ohio State Law to put your hands up on The Beast. That said, I think many of us will openly plea guilty to that one.
  20. ~2 oz once you consider how much of the cup they fill with ice. Ice is just water, only colder. So it is still between 6 and 7 ounces.
  21. I started a conversation with a KICer in line for Millennium Force once when it broke down for about 2 hours... (yes, I know, different park. That made it even cooler) Though I don't remember his username, as he said he isn't a very regular poster. Whoever you are though, thank you for recommending the corn dogs from the stand near Iron Dragon. They were delicious.
  22. Well, a news station has reported that it had an incident in the past. Time for the popcorn. I can't wait to hear how many people died on it. Or maybe some seats fell off or dummies fell out in testing. Clearly at least one of those things MUST have happened.
  23. At a Cedar Fair parks, that can change from day to day based on how many rides are currently closed.
  24. And I'm fairly certain the button is just a prop and doesn't actually do anything. But the kids don't need to know that.
  25. I like how they bill Fire Chaser Express as "The Nation's first dual-launched Family coaster" I rode a dual-launched family coaster last Thursday, and I'm relatively certain that I was in Kings Mills, OH and NOT Pigeon Forge, TN...
