Until the state officially releases their restart guidelines on theme parks I don't think we'll get an answer. With the friday announcement, I would have thought those would have been published prior to today, but as is the case in the past, seems like it takes 2-3 business days to post the guidelines. Which makes no sense, if they are based upon the restart committees (of which CF has 2 employees on that committee) it would stand to reason that prior to DeWine's friday announcement that those protocols had already been agreed upon and all they had to do was push them to their web to make them official. I assume KI knows what they are, I don't know why they aren't published the same day as they are announced.

I don't think a year round restaurant would work well when the park is not open (at least not as a traditional restaurant) but I think if they took the restaurant, and allowed it to operate as a restaurant during park hours then be used as a corporate event center during non-operating hours while also opening it up for the occasional wedding or corporate event during normal park times. I don't know the capacity, but having a wedding reception up there with dancing and end of the night fireworks isn't the worse idea. I'm not sure how it would work with the park being opened and having your guest both at your reception and at the park, or all hot and sweaty after a day at the park, but I'm sure a handful of couples would be interested in that. Obviously easy to pull off in the off season if they desired. I'm not sure how long before corporate events would work again, I'm not even sure how much they do them any more, but using that upstairs part for meeting/training in the mornings while the rest of the family plays in the park, meet for lunch then everyone hits the park in the afternoon would be a boon for training. mid week during the season. anyhoo, my point being, I think a revamped front gate is very much needed. They need to install self serve ticket kiosks to free up those lines. I'm sure the season pass processing area could use an update, the restaurant above could be upgraded and the overall look needs a boost. I look how awesome the relatively cheap halloween set up looks and realize that a more permanent setup could greatly enhance your feel to the start of the day. With that said, I never want a "front gate" coaster. Walking thru the "tunnel" under the restaurant and having the sound and feel of the fountains along with the visual of the tower is very magical. I am in favor of a "side gate" coaster update, ie getting rid of Invertigo and replacing it with something else and would give visuals to the side of the front entrance. I just don't want something that takes away from that feel you get when you walk thru the other side of the front gate. Perhaps a coaster that extended out well past the front gate work or even "under" the entry plaza would work.

Soapbox... How is buying a game @ Target because 5% of their store is dedicated to selling something resembling real groceries any safer than buying a game @ gamestop who dedicates 0% of their isle space to anything resembling real groceries?

Not KI related, but certainly crowd related. The big parties @ the Ozarks over memorial day weekend have happened approx 10-12 days ago. So far, there are no known cases of Covid that have sprung up as a result of those gathers (which involved very little social distancing) There is a report of one person that was there and was "likely" contagious with Covid at the time. https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/state-and-regional/no-new-covid-19-cases-from-lake-of-the-ozarks-crowds-missouri-health-director-says/article_6f36ad32-d125-5382-b78f-74bd0f6510ac.html

You may or may not like the announcement or recommendations, but its obvious that the parks are going to open back up. They already know what the requirements will be and are putting those into action
-
I'm guessing that somewhere, that has already happened
-
Based upon the tents, Diamondback pond, Orion testing, and that people from Cedar Fair on on the re-oopening planning commission, its obvious that KI already knows the date that they will be allowed to open and under what restrictions. Thursday is just a formality for the general public.

Turn Festhaust into "international house" with all the fixing from China, 'Merica, Mexico and Italy. turn Hanks into a German place, bring in Schmidts as a corporate partner. makes tons of cream puffs, count the cash. Turn the Bier Garten into a highly themed Bier Garten, extend the seating and have a party like atmosphere w/ live music and german songs/ dancing and celeberation (similar to hofbrau hause) every couple of hours starting at noon (say 1:00, 5:00 & 9:00) or something lasting for 30 minutes or so. Count the cash from increased beer sales. Take said cash, and relocate the entrance to Delerium so that it enters from Oktoberfest. Move the slingshot and install a ferris wheel. Make Auntie Ann's the official opening of Oktoberfest on one side, the path b/w the international house and relocated Delerium Que as the 2nd, the back back into Coney by the Coke Free Style as your 3rd, and Tower Gardens is brought into Oktoberfest by selling more cream puffs, and creampuffs only at the stand there that I think now does face painting or airbrushing or something. The Funnel Cake place would be the 4th start of Oktoberfest now locking in the area from all side/entrances. The Gardens is now a relaxing place to enjoy your cream puff or funnel cake vs the buzz and activity in the Bier Garten. Finally, the ladder game comes out, and a spinning keg ride is put in its place completing the transformation.

Does that mean park employees or people that build the ride can ride? If so, anyone think people have been on it already?

Our family get together in late June @ the pointe was cancelled as well with a full refund. The phone lines were closed, but the chat feature was up to make the process super easy.

Could Infinity Flyers replace current Millennium Flyers?
medford replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Kings Island
Agreed, lots of pops of airtime on MT. I'll say the same about renegade @ Valleyfair! Never been Ghost Rider (let alone to Knotts) but based on the POV, it looks like it has a ton of floater hills. -
They may sod some areas of the ride, but I would think most would be seed. Sod is expensive.
-
Have you ever been on Wild Thing @ Valleyfair!? The Steel Dragon POV always reminded me of that ride. Wild thing has a great first drop and a killer floater air on the 2nd hump, it ends with a Magnum like small hill section thru tunnels that is a lot of fun, but the middle of the ride is a ride killing figure 8 that takes a lot away from the ride overall (it was still fun). Steel Dragon looks to have a similar set up, but it appears the middle section is better, then being taller the first drop and floater 2nd hill would be better (in theory) and the last portion looks better as well. Just wondering how the middle section of Steel Dragon complements the first and last part of the ride.

I don't think anyone thought they'd experience a pandemic.

I was watching TV live when the 2nd plane hit the tower and it was obviously clear that that the events of 9/11 were intentional (for those too young, the initial reports suggested that the first plane was something along the lines of a single engine Cesna). I always thought that would be my JFK moment, and for the most part I can tell you so many small details of that morning. This is going to be much, much bigger in those life event kind of things. While 9/11 was tragic and surreal, for the most part it didn't have a direct effect on much of the nation. For the most part, 9/11 was a singular event and for most of America, life returned to normal within a week with little to no personal affects. Covid is forcing us all to live differently, even if we don't know anyone affected by the virus. Its happening over such an extended period of time that its going to force many of us into life changing habits (good or bad) for a long time after.

I think Dewine just all but officially put the death sentence on an early-mid summer opening for KI or Cedar Pointe. Question came up about fairs, concerts, etc... Not specifically KI, but w/n the same vain as a fair and his comment was that those type of places would be the last to be open. Not official, and he left room for things to change (ie a vaccine, my words not his) but not looking good.

All 2020 KI Season Passes will be valid for 2021 Season
medford replied to foze.bear's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
The key is to get them back thru the doors, when this does happen, make them feel like that season pass was money well spent. If the park does open, and the general public feels like its safe, there may be significant uptick in people because they see the option of getting 1.5 seasons for one as good value. -
I wonder if any of these parks have "pandemic" clauses in their insurance policies that will in essence make shuttering for a full season far less a financial risk than opening up for part of a season. I've read on here (like 5 years ago), that Cedar Fair was self insured. Don't know if that is true or not and if that would mean a better or worse outlook than other parks.

I'd hate to be that guy on any day, let alone during this. but it does bring up a point, if/when KI opens up there likely will be rides/attractions like ET that remain closed. I'm guessing in 2 weeks time we will have a much clearer idea on the chances that KI opens up at all this year.

I highly doubt we go from 0-100 in a day. the updated models for whatever they are worth, keep showing the "worst" case scenarios lowering, and the "peak" coming sooner. If Ohio truely peaks this week as the latest models show, the data will clearly back that up by the time the current "stay in place" order expires. If the models updated over the weekend are wrong, they will also clearly know that by the end of the month. That state will not open back up prior to the end of the month. When it does open back up, it will do so gradually, schools with less than a month to go, will likely stay on the "learn from home" programs they are doing now. Perhaps gatherings of up to 50 or 100 people will be acceptable. Little league games? Maybe assuming all but things like the LLWS gather far less than 100 people. Places like Movie Theaters may open, but seating will be limited and spread out. Places like KI, would open up later. Professional sporting evens will be "fan free", etc... In otherwords, when it first opens up, social distancing will still be in order to an extent, similar to what we saw at the start of social distancing. Give that a couple of weeks to perhaps a month and if things look like they've stayed positive and a 2nd wave isn't present, more things will open up. Things will slowly open up, both by order, but also by human desire/ability. If you had just been laid off and money is tight, you probably are not going to spring for day tickets to KI or a fancy trip somewhere. If you had been laid off and are now back at work, you probably aren't going to be asking for vacation in the first couple of months (some don't even give that option). Many people will also be hesitant to re-enter crowded places. I doubt people are going to jump to pack the bars, or movie theaters or anywhere else. No matter if that re-opening starts in May, June, August or next year, it will re-open slowly, not all at once.
-
I'm guessing part of the thinking is "if we can open, we find a way to make them want to come in" Should KI open this year, the turnstiles will be heavy thanks to Orion, but overall I expect the numbers to be down, and down even sharper at places that don't have anything new and shiny to show off. Additionally, a gradual re-opening could mean that trains leave the station with only every other row open, so that dispatches are limited. There are also people that will be getting checks from the government in the coming months, some of which are trying to think of something FUN to do with that money.

https://covid19.healthdata.org/ IMHE released their updated projections over the weekend. According to this, the US will peak in about a week, Ohio will peak in resources need in a couple of days, and deaths in 6 days. Hope they are right; there may be a Kings Island season after all, eventually.

I've seen several Congo Falls... While the ride is brief, the wait is as well, and its got one of the best drops in the entire park. If you are worried about getting wet, sit in the middle back and you likely won't get very wet. Its worth the 5 minutes it takes to walk thru the typically empty que to hope on. I doubt the attraction is going to be around too much longer (just a hunch that eventually that and Invertigo will get removed for a new attraction

The upcharged rides and Delirium for sure. Maybe the scrambler and shake rattle and role (can't rule out riding them as a very young kid, but for most of my life riding things that spun too much made me naseous, so if I did I can't remember it). WindSeeker. The Linus flying ride, and the kite eating tree. and Orion, which would have given rides out by now, even if it was just KI personal (perhaps it already has)

I think you'd get a lot of baseball enthusiast, but I'd consider myself both. I'd definitely consider taking my family to KI, I wouldn't bother with a Reds game as i can watch that on TV. But none of that matters much if they can't get a cure for the worst symptoms. W/o that, I don't see anyway a place like KI opens up in any sort of regular way. Baseball could open up w/o fans in the stands w/ less restrictions
